Waste
The efficient waste management methods we use in our shopping centres mean we have
to separate the waste generated into more than 20 different categories. This separation
process means that each type of waste is sent, according to its nature, to the most suitable
waste manager to achieve greater efficiency. The goal is to ensure that only waste that
cannot be reused ends up in the dump.
The provision of the waste collection service for certain kinds of waste generated by
customers accounts for a significant amount of the total waste managed. The bulk of
the waste corresponds to electrical and electronic appliances.
We generated over 30 million kilograms of cardboard in 2014, tightly closing the
cycle of this particular waste as it is converted into the raw material for the cardboard
packaging re-used by the company.
As regards waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), over 17 million kilograms
of electrical appliances from customers have been processed.
