She is originally from Lubbock, TX and is raising five girls, yes five, in Walpole. She is notoriously competitive having recently brought home a local poker championship. Alfonso Sylvester: Alfonso, aka A-Train, works in behavioral Health at Norwood Hospital and will be a force to be reckoned with his background in both military combat training and experience in competitive baking (armed with a culinary degree). Diane Gaughran: Diane, aka, D-Money, is a clinical exercise physiologist in the cardiac rehab unit and will bring a lot of 'heart' to the team. She is scheduled for a very physical summer as she is not only competing in the Ultimate Team Challenge but the Tuff Mudder in August. The Tuff Medders will at least be well fed as D-Money also has a baking background! Hilary Walentuk: Hilary, aka, H-Bomb, is a clinical dietitian who sets her goals high as she looks to complete all three major throughhikes: The Appalachian Train, the Pacific Coast Train and the Continental Divide Train. Hopefully there will be some sort of hiking challenge in the event! Nick Furr: Nick, aka, Furrocious, is a desktop support specialist in Norwood Hospital's IT department whose skills include cooking, BBQ, sewing and picking locks. Who knows which of these skills will be needed the day of the event! Omolayo Asaolu: Omolayo, aka, Omo Lay Down the Law, is a patient access supervisor and one of seven siblings, so he is used to fighting for what he wants. This will likely prove very valuable in competition! Sheila Donovan: Sheila, aka, Donnybrook, is an emergency department registered nurse and Norwood native. She is very excited to return to Norwood and take on a few fellow Mustangs! Allison Prior: Allison, aka AlliKat, is a clinical nutrition manager, a Reiki Master and mom of three, She was on her varsity high school swim team and with those credentials, watch out! Maryann Santisi: Maryann, aka, the Great Santisi, is the director of environmental services at Norwood Hospital. She is married with two sons, a dog, a cat and a fish and a former hockey mom.... isn't that enough? Cheer. Donate. Support. Have Fun! Root for your fellow residents at the Abundant Table's Ultimate Team Challenge! It's Norwood's version of the legendary tv show 'Battle of the Network Stars, and the stars of this event are fellow local residents! On June 18, at 2 p.m., the Norwood High School football field will be transformed into an obstacle course to raise funds for The Abundant Table, and the Norwood community is invited to attend. The event will host 20 'Dream Teams' of ten participants that will compete in head-to-head contests. The course will include 8-10 stages of physical and entertaining obstacles for each team to maneuver and the fastest team of the day will be crowned The Ultimate Challengers! "I've been thinking about this for a long time," Abundant Table board member and organizer Laurie Shea said. "Kids are involved in sports for a long time, but adults do not have as much of an opportunity to compete. It's part of who we are." Each team is required to raise a minimum of $5,000 directly from their supporters and there is still time to sponsor these generous competitors who have volunteered to put it all out there on the field. To preview the squads and lend just a little financial backing, visit the Abundant Table website at www.abundant-table.org. Monetary donations will also be accepted the day of the event. In lieu of admission, spectators are also encouraged to bring a nonperishable item, such as peanut butter, boxed pasta, jelly, tuna fish or canned goods. All money raised from the event will be donated directly to the Abundant Table, a non-profit, all volunteer organization that provides free weekly meals to individuals and families in the Greater Boston area, including Norwood, Dedham, Walpole, Canton and Westwood. The Abundant Table was launched in 2003, and began serving one person for its first few weeks. Today, it welcomes 60-80 guests on Wednesday and Friday evenings serving hot and healthy meals. It also manages a daily meals on wheels program to 55 individuals. The Abundant Table operates solely on donations and fundraisers, which is why this aggressive event spearheaded by Shea is so important. They also raise funds through grants, corporate donations, community events, organized food drives and individual food and monetary contributions. The Abundant Table is located within the First Congregational Church, Pingree Hall, 100 Winter St., and hosts dinner hours Wednesdays and Fridays, 5:30- 6:30 p.m. For more information on the Abundant Table or to donate, call 978-501-1264, visit their website at www.abundant-table. org or mail a check to: The Abundant Table, Inc., P.O. Norwood residents are exceptional in supporting their local community and this fundraiser is another valuable example how neighbors reach out and give their time and money to aid one another. Of course, in true Norwood fashion, the day will also prove to be an entertaining and fun event for the entire family! June 2016 Local Town Pages www.norwoodtownnews.com Page 11 It May Be the Flu, but It May Be Lyme Disease Lyme Disease often goes undiagnosed as the symptoms often mimic the flu. When symptoms last several weeks, those signs should be followed up with a blood test. Lyme Disease is typically treated with doxycycline. This antibiotic, however, is not always effective, especially with the many co-infections of Lyme, such as Borellia, Bartonella, Babesia, Rickettsia and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 300,000 Americans are diagnosed with Lyme Disease each year, and the numbers are rising. Although it is believed that Lyme is a result of a tick bite, the Dr. Rochelle Bien & Dr. Michael Goldstein Norwood Hospital Welcomes The Loopy Bag Norwood Hospital’s pediatric team recently welcomed Laura Reid and representatives from her non-profit organization, The Loopy Bag, to the hospital. The Loopy Bag provides children in the hospital with activities to keep their minds and hands busy. These anxiety-reducing activities include: books, puzzles, coloring books, painting projects and many other small, age appropriate activities. The goal of The Loopy Bag is to help make being in the hospital less painful for both the child and their parent/guardian. The Loopy Bag provides gift bags for infants to preteens and even provides some essentials for moms and dads dealing with unexpected hospitalization of a child. Common effects of tick bites include an itchy “bull's-eye,” but this rash only occurs in about half of those infected. Other symptoms include unrelenting fatigue, recurring fever, headaches/migraines and achy muscles and joints. For six years Pauline suffered with various ailments, including muscle aches, joint pains, brain fog, extreme fatigue and unrelenting headaches.
