Finally, when we could stand the heat nor
the reek of rotten fish no more, we decided
to cool ourselves down properly, and visited
the grocery store in Salton Sea Beach
Marina, where a group of elderly ladies and
gentlemen wearing baseball caps sat smoking
cigars and playing poker in the corner by
the refrigerators.
As we left the Salton Sea that day, it was as
reluctantly as when our first visit ended. But
we knew that we would return.
In fact, if you check back in forty years’ time, I
fully intend that you’ll find our golf carts parked
outside the Salton Sea Marina Grocery Store,
and we’ll be inside playing poker with a man
from Florence who talks to the sea.
