KPSC CANDIDATES ALLEGE FDA, SDA EXAM PAPER LEAK, DEMAND CBI ROBE
18 COMPLAINTS AGAINST BHATT: LOKAYUKTA
The controversy on the
appointment of T Sham
Bhatt as the chairperson
of Karnataka Public Service
Commission (KPSC)
has reached a boiling point
after Lokayukta office sent
a report to the Raj Bhavan
reportedly on the status of
18 complaints against him.
The report from the Lokayukta
office stated that
18 complaints are pending
against Bhatt and are still at
the stage of scrutiny as the
post of Lokayukta is vacant
for the last six months. The
report also said that two
cases had been sent to the
government for initiating
action against Bhatt. The
name of the 1992 batch IAS
officer was recommended
by the State government on
May 18, 2016 for appointment
to KPSC. The Governor’s
office had asked a
detailed report on the complaints
against Bhatt.
.One of the two complaints
was regarding the
allotment of industrial land
in Bommasandra Industrial
Area when Bhatt was the
CEO of Karnataka Industrial
Areas Development Board.
.Earlier on Tuesday Legislative
Assembly Speaker
Kagodu Thimmappa said
that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
had committed a
mistake by recommending
T Sham Bhatt for the post of
chairperson of KPSC.
He told that he personally
felt that Bhatt was not
suitable for the post.
Candidates who attempted
the FDA and SDA exam conducted
by KPSC in October of 2015 held
a protest at Freedom Park on
Wednesday. The candidates claim
that the FDA and SDA exam question
papers were leaked. They are
demanding the state government
to order for a CBI probe into the
matter and also conduct re-exam
for FDA and SDA.
According to the candidates,
the First division assistant, Second
division assistant, junior
assistant competitive exams
held on 4th and 8th of October
2015 were leaked a day before
the exams were conducted. They
also allege that the papers were
leaked by the same people who
have been accused of leaking II
PUC question papers this year
with the help of KPSC officials.
The candidates claim that they
have submitted a letter of request
to KPSC Secretary Manoj Kumar
Meena at his office but no action
was taken. The matter was even
brought to the CM’s notice on a
radio show last month, even then,
no action was taken and KPSC
went ahead and released 1:2 merit
list on 13th and 31st of May.
Questioning the motive behind
the reduction of examination
time from two hours to one
and half hour, the candidates say
this year, names of candidates
under General Merit who have
scored 74 percent were not in the
merit list unlike last time.
The candidates now demand
the FDA and SDA recruitments
be stopped, a CBI enquiry be ordered
and a re-exam be conducted.
the police spotted 3 suspicious
APPOINTMENT OF SIX STU-
DENTS IN ACADEMIC COUNCIL
Six students from Bangalore
University have been elected as academic
council members.
The selected members,
Harshitha R, Pratiksha Prakash,
Raju M Havannavaru, Vineet Sham
Bhal, Subramani KM, Thilagavathy
have already planned on what issues
to bring on board.
Let’s start with Pratiksha
Prakash, a national-level badminton
player and a second year student
at University Law College who
is on sports quota has a suggestion
for the board. “As a sportsperson
what happens is that if we have examination
dates and a tournament’s
dates clashing, we
have to choose between the
two. There should be a re-examination
or examination on
a different date arranged. I
will be taking this suggestion
to the board,” Pratiksha said.
Harshitha R, a second
year Bsc student from SJR
College for women has decided
to put forward the issues
of discrepancies in the exam
results and valuation to the
board.
Raju M Havannavaru,
the NSS representative said,
“I want to request the board
to make sure there are no
preferences given in terms of
internal marks being awarded.
Every function should be
completely corruption free.
Also, there should be no involvement
or interference of any politician
in the matter of the board.”
In an order issued last month,
KK Seethamma, Registrar (Administration)
appointed six students
with immediate effect for a period
of two years.
‘MISSION HOPE’ A NEW
INITIATIVE BY STUDENTS
K S Hegde College students have
made an attempt to bring light in
the lives of the exploited by starting
an association ‘Mission Hope’ for
social work.
Usually students like to spend
their holidays in a way that gives
them relief from the study tension.
Some choose to watch films and
some others go on a vacation. But
these students set an example for
the others who spend their time
leisurely in relieving themselves.
The students, who come forward
to help the poor, started the
association on 16th January this
year while others were celebrating
the Panambur Kite festival. They
started counselling and making
aware of the harmful effects of the
drugs and other vices to the addicts.
Later they found no fruit in
merely advising the addicts. Then,
with the help of Nitte university
vice-chancellor and college Dean,
Kshema, medical college students
started ‘Mission Hope’ on April
16th this year.
They kept donation boxes everywhere
in the college, hostel
administrative office and hospital.
The boxes had a writing on it,
“Used clothes, books, bags, toys,
pens and pencils in them”. They collected
nearly 500 kilograms used
clothes in a month. Adding to these
places the boxes were kept out for
the same purpose nearby. Father
Muller Hospital staff and students
joined hands in the work. Nearly
30 students collected items during
holidays and in the evenings.
They distributed the collected
items to the residents of Snehalaya
in Uppala and children of Balasamrakshana
center. The Mission Hope
students spent time with orphanage
residents and spoke to them
understanding their hardships. The
remaining items were distributed
among more than 100 daily wage
workers in the hospital premises.
Nitte university vice-chancellor
Dr Ramananda Shetty lauded the
efforts of medical students while
speaking at the distribution of
clothes on Saturday, June 4. Kshema
College dean Dr Sathish Kumar
Bhandary said that Rs 1.5 lacs collected
from hospital students and
staff for cancer patient’s awareness
will be distributed through ‘Mission
Hope’.
Non clinical vice- dean Amrath
Mirajkar, Kshema registrar Dr Jayaprakash
Shetty, Mission Hope’s Junaid
Anwar, Deepu Suresh, Abhijith
Shanker, Pallavi Mehendaru, Ajish
George, Aishwarya Girish and Indu
Kurup were present.
the chamber representatives,
its work in these areas
and invited applications from
residents to avail of piped gas
The GAIL commenced supply
of gas through the line to its
but now people over there are
struggling for drinking water.”
current situation in the district
and how the people are getting
water by tanker lorry.
He also talked about the Mekedaatu
and requested to transfer
the money to the Chief Minister’s
it would be helpful for the
Brain washing Raghu, a
reply came with the message
requesting him to send
the bank details before
March 31 this year. On April
6, he again received a call
at his workplace with the
caller saying that the money
has been sent through a
person named Robert Miller,
who was at Delhi airport.
After receiving the call from
Miller, he was asked to Rs. 40,000
immediately for custom clearance
at the airport. In span of one
month he had sent Rs. 28 lakh
in total to the various accounts
without the knowledge of his
family members and friends. The
conman had requested him not to
Unfortunately the state is
yet to commission its power
unit. Otherwise the LNG (liquefied
the state power generation utility
save Rs. 800 crore annually
by reducing cost, improving
efficiency and drastically cutting
down pollution caused by
using liquid fuels. GAIL has an
store gas, four stations - two
in Sumanahalli along Magadi
The 1,000-km pipeline that
State BJP President B.S.Yeddyurappa
on Wednesday exhuded
confidence that all the¬¬
three candidates of his party –
one for Rajya Sabha and two for
the Legislative Council – would
win in the elections to the Upper
House of the parliament
and the state legislature.
Speaking to reporters at the
state BJP headquarters after the
meeting of the SC and OBC Morcha,
Shri Yeddyurappa said his
party has the required numbers
to register a comfortable victory
one Rajya Sabha and one
Council seat.
“For the second council
seat, we are in touch with the
independents. I am confident
is getting water for 12 districts
from here and that water is used
for farming. I am not asking not
to send water there but asking for
basic drinking water to our own
district first.”
He requested the actors and
producers in a large number to
join hands to make the protest
successful.
disclose the surprise of getting
Rs. 3 crore in return.
It was only after the fraudsters
demanded more money that
Raghu realized something was
amiss. When he refused, the calls
and emails suddenly stopped and
he couldn’t contact them either. It
was then that he approached the
Cyber Crime police station to file
the case. Raghu said, “I sold my
property and even used my children’s
money as their ATMs were
promises to change the energy
to feed industries at Belgaum,
and Ramanagaram.These industries
have been depending
on the expensive and polluting
liquid fuels like naphtha and
diesel as feedstock.
Bengalureans will now benefit
from the 1,000-km-long
Dabhol-Bengaluru gas pipeline
on which work began over three
years ago.
that Shri Lehar Singh Siroya,
our second candidate, will also
win,” the BJP President said, in
response to a question.
Asked about the strategy to
ensure the victory of second
candidate for council, the BJP
chief said there was no strategy
except to talk to the independent
and like- minded MLAs. “I
have already spoken to independent
MLAs,” he added.
On the demand of some parties
for countermanding of the
elections, Shri Yeddyurappa
said his party was not in favour
of it. “What would be the use of
countermanding the elections?
Ultimately, it is the same MLAs
who would vote,” he added.
Water issue became an alarming
factor across the country
in India for past few years. The
reasons can be many including
big industrialists taking out the
ground water in a large. According
to Hori Peakash, the ground
water level has gone down to
some 500 feet in the entire district.
with me”. Investigations revealed
that the cash was transferred to
four different bank accounts in
Nagaland. Police suspect Raghu
may have become victim of a Nigerian
gang.
This is not new for the Indians
to lose money in this manner. It
has been happening for a long
time of period. Many people lost
money in this covet business.
SOUTH BENGALURU TO GET
METRO SERVICES SOON
The work on 8 elevated stations
— National College, Lalbagh,
South End Circle, Jayanagar,
RV Road, Banashankari, JP Nagar
and Puttenahalli Cross — was
completed last year.
But the Bangalore Metro Rail
Corporation Limited (BMRCL)
could not deploy trains from
Peenya depot due to lack of connectivity,
though it could do so
from Baiyappanahalli to MG Road
(purple line) and Nagasandra to
Sampige Road (green line).
The eight-kilometre elevated
Metro line between National College,
Basavanagudi, and Puttenahalli
Cross, JP Nagar, is likely to
open in two months. The entire
North-South corridor will not
open until the 4-km underground
section between Sampige Road
and KR Market is completed.
The BMRCL is expecting a breakthrough
of one of the two important
tunnels on Wednesday.
A 67-years-old women was
murdered on the 31st of May by
four men.The accused were finally
arrested by the rajarajeshwarinagar
and kamakshipalaya
police on 6thjune night. One of
the convict was known to the
victim since 20 years. He had
entered the house as a casual
meet and asked her for teawhen
the other gang members had
joined him and pushed her and
strangled her with a mobile
charger wire, one of the killers
started searching for valuables
and found jewelry and some
cash.
The deputy commissioner
of police, west division had
formed 2 special investigation
teams under the supervision of
In a very unfortunate incident
Tashildhar Dharmannahad
of north Karnataka between 4
districts and 9 taluks. The reason
for death was said to be
The southbound Kaveri Tunnel
Boring Machine (TBM) had
tunnelled more than 727.5 metres
out of 747 metres between
Chickpet and Majestic stations.
Once that is done, the BMRCL
can start laying tracks as well as
electrical and signalling work at
Metro stations between Sampige
Road and KR Market. This would
make way for the train to connect
Peenya depot till Puttenahalli
Cross. That will require at least
two months.
A few months ago, there was
a suggestion to lift the Metro
coaches to the standalone elevated
stretch between National
College and Puttenahalli. But the
proposal was dropped since there
were no coach maintenance facilities
on this stretch.
Incomplete work
The only facility available was
in Peenya which was not accessible
because of the incomplete
tunnelling work. But now, since
one tunnel will be completed,
,Rajarajeshwarinagar police
station, Shri MR Harish, police
inspector Kamakshipalya police
During the course of enquiry
, it was revealed that the
accused were unemployed and
they used to collect information
about lonely ladies in vicinities
where the cctv camera aren’t
installed. In the same manner
the accused also attempted the
same 3 times.
When CH got in touch with
the RR Nagar inspector Munireddy
he said “ the suspected
the accused because he was
known to the victim. the main
accused was a family friend ,
his father knew the victim’s
NEGLIGENT DEATH
Heart attack. He was to have
a protest and instead of taking
him to the hospital the BJP
took him to the stage where
he had collapsed. . The cm has
the connectivity issues will be
National College and RV Road.
Krishna, the third TBM, completed
tunnelling between KR
Market and Chickpet in August,
2015 and has 130 metres left to
reach Majestic, which will take
two months.
It is, however, unclear if the
BMRCL would open the entire
North-South corridor using just
one tunnel. It is being suggested
that the standalone stations between
National College and Puttenahalli
be used at present.
It is unclear if the BMRCL will
open the stretch between National
College and Puttenahalli
or willwait for the completion
of both tunnel works. Once the
North-South corridor is fully
opened, the first phase of Namma
Metro will be completed.
DISTRESS SPOT IN 10 MNTS.
The garden city police officers have made a
special effort to reduce the response time to 10
minutes.
The response time is that the time betweenpeople
make a call to 100 and the police reaches
the distress spot. The city police is making an
effort to reduce the response time to 10 minutes.
Speaking about the new initiative, P Harishekaran,
Additional Commissioner East Division
said, “We want to minimize the response time in
the city to 10 minutes. We are planning to use
more of the social media for the purpose. People
in Bengaluru are using the social media in a
wider range. We have also opened an individual
twitter account to all the police station. People
can complain either through social media or
through a call. We want to reach there within 10
minutes.”
If it happens then Bengaluru police will be
faster than the London police whose response
time is 12 minutes.

Charging the Left with scare mongering,
he said that this would not
Union Minister of State for
NOTHING NEW IN AMIT SHAH’S
EVASIVE REMARK ON RAM TEMPLE: NCP
The National Communist Party
(NCP) on Wednesday dubbed
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president
Amit Shah’s latest assertion
on the Ram temple issue as an
‘evasive remark’, saying he should
have instead countered the statements
made by the RSS, Hindu Mahasabha
and other saffron outfits
with regard to this matter.
NCP leader Majeed Memon
said that the BJP president had
been very ambiguous with his
statement as he did not take a
particular stand and reiterated
what has been said since the past
20 years.
“He said all the communities
come together and with a consensus
the splendid temple could
be built. This was spoken in 1993
AAP READY TO FACE
POLLS ANY TIME IN GOA
The Aam Aadmi Party has
said it is ready to face elections
in Goa any time. The elections
to the 40-member Goa Legislative
Assembly are due in March
next year.
“People are so sick and tired
of this BJP government. People
can demand an early election as
well,” AAP leader Ashish Khetan
told reporters. “We are ready
to face election anytime from
now in all the constituencies,”
he said.
AAP has already announced
it will contest all the 40 constituencies
of the state.
also, which he is talking after
23 years. Or alternatively, since
the matter is sub-judice before
the highest court of the land, the
verdict of the court should be followed.
This is also not new. This
has also been spoken for years. So,
what did he say?” Memon told.
“The statements like we will
have the splendid temple come
what may by the end of this year
made by the RSS, Hindu Mahasabha
and other saffron outfits.
He should have spoken about that.
He should have said that what they
are saying is wrong. He did not say
that. What he has said is something
even I would say or anybody
else would say,” he added.
The BJP president, who was
addressing a media briefing in
Lucknow yesterday, asserted that
Ram Janmabhoomi is a part of his
party’s election manifesto.
Shah yesterday said that a Ram
Temple should be built in Ayodhya
either after a consensus or
through court’s decision.
“We have specified it that the
Ram temple should be made on
the site either after a consensus or
by the directions of court. This is
our firm stand,” he said.
ANI
Party’s national convener
and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal had also recently addressed
a public rally in Panaji.
Meanwhile, senior party
leader Ashutosh expressed confidence
that the party will form
the government on its own in
Goa after the polls. However, he
also said that AAP would prefer
to sit in opposition if it has to
take help of any other political
outfit to gain power.
He said Kejriwal is likely to
visit Goa at least once a month
and later more frequently when
the polls approach.
US COMMITTED TO WORK HARD FOR
INDIA’S ADMISSION IN NSG:
RICHARD VERMA
With United States President
Barack Obama firmly backing
New Delhi’s candidature for
membership of the elite Nuclear
Suppliers Group (NSG), U.S. Ambassador
to India Richard Verma
on Wednesday said the former is
very supportive of India’s accession
in all the four export control
regimes, including the NSG, and
is going to work hard to achieve
the target.
The statement came after the
members of the Missile Technology
Control Regime (MTCR) yesterday
agreed to include India in
to the group.
“We think the MTCR membership
is eminent and we spent
a lot of time talking about NSG
membership and the President
is very strongly supportive of India’s
accession in to all the four
export control regimes including
the NSG, we are going to work
really hard on that,” Verma told a
leading multimedia news agency.
Verma further said that Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to
the U.S. was of great significance
as it churned out lot of important
outcomes.
Elucidating the blooming defence
camaraderie between the
two nations, Verma said, “India
is now major defence partner
and it’s a special designation for
India. We want to recognize how
important this relationship is. It
involves higher level of technology
transfer and higher level of
cooperation. So I think that’s a
big part of the progress we made.
And I am really glad that we are
able to make that announcement
today.”
In a joint statement issued
after the third major bilateral
summit between Prime Minister
Modi and President Obama, the
U.S. called on ‘NSG Participating
Governments’ to support India’s
application when it comes up at
the NSG Plenary later this month.
The President thanked the
Prime Minister for his substantive
contribution to and active
participation in 2016 Nuclear
Security Summit in Washington,
which unerringly prove the guilt
the appeal filed by accused
Poovarasi against the February 15,
her, she killed his son. She enacted
a drama by saying the boy was
India and the US today vowed
explore new opportunities to
Pak “Concerned” Over
India’s Interceptor
Missile Test
Pakistan has expressed serious
concerns over India’s recent
development of an anti-ballistic
missile system, saying that it
may give India a false sense of
security, leading to unexpected
complications which are contrary
to its policy of a friendly
neighbourhood.
On May 15, India had successfully
test-fired indigenously
developed supersonic interceptor
missile, capable of destroying
any incoming ballistic missile.
The criticism came up in the
Senate meeting yesterday, the
Express Tribune newspaper reported.
“Massive conventional nuclear
and missile development programmes
pursued by India are
now leading to nuclearisation of
the Indian Ocean,” saidAdviser
on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
“The development of an anti-ballistic
missile system (ABM)
may give India a false sense of
security, leading to unexpected
complications. Such actions are
also contrary to the policy of a
peaceful and friendly neighbourhood,
which our prime minister
(Nawaz Sharif) has repeatedly
espoused,” Aziz said.
“Pakistan has serious concerns
over these developments
and will take all necessary measures
to augment its defence capabilities,”
he said.
Mark Zuckerberg’s
Twitter account hacked
Facebook founder and CEO
Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter and
Pinterest accounts were hacked
by a hacker group who claimed to
have obtained passwords from his
LinkedIn account during a 2012
data breach, according to a media
report.
The hacker group called ‘Our-
Mine Team’, who have more than
40,000 Twitter followers wrote
from Zuckerberg’s Twitter page
“Hey @finkd, you were in Linkedin
Database with the password
‘dadada’ !”
On his Pinterest, the new title
was “Hacked by OurMine Team.”
The group has claimed that the
password leaked through a massive
LinkedIn data breach in 2012
with more than 164 million users’
data stolen, The New York Daily
news reported.
However, there is “no new data
breach”, said LinkedIn.
“Several weeks ago, additional
names and passwords from the
original data breach in 2012 were
released and we took quick action
to notify our members. At that
time, we inactivated all the passwords
on LinkedIn for members
that hadn’t updated them since the
2012 incident” and asked them to
reset their passwords, it said.
at the September 2016
Our Ocean Conference in
Washington, D.C. as well
as holding of the first India-U.S.
Oceans Dialogue
later this year, to strengthen
cooperation in marine
science, ocean energy,
managing and protecting
ocean biodiversity, marine
pollution, and sustainable
use of ocean resources.
The leaders reaffirmed
their commitment to the
Global Health Security
Agenda and the timely
implementation of its objectives.
The Prime Minister
noted India’s role on
the Steering Group and its
leadership in the areas of
anti-microbial resistance
and immunization.
The leaders recognized
the global threat posed by
multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis
(MDR-TB) and
committed to continue
collaboration in the area of
tuberculosis and to share
respective best practices.
The leaders noted
the growing threat of
PAK REFUSES TO TRY
non-communicable diseases
and the urgent need
to address the risk factors
by, inter alia, promoting
healthy lifestyles, controlling
sugar and salt intake,
promoting physical
activity especially among
children and youth and
strengthening efforts to
curb tobacco use.
The leaders
also reiterated
the importance
of holistic
approaches
to health and
wellness, and
of promoting
the potential
benefits of
holistic approaches
by
synergizing
modern and
traditional
systems of
medicine, including
Yoga.
The leaders
strongly
endorsed
expansion of
the Indo-U.S. Vaccine Action
Program, which is
fostering public-private
research partnerships focused
on the development
and evaluation of vaccines
to prevent tuberculosis,
dengue, chikungunya and
other globally important
infectious diseases. (ANI)
PATHANKOT ATTACKERS
IF PAK REFUSES TO TRY PATHANKOT ATTACKERS, THEY MUST BE PROSECUTED AT THE HAGUE: EDWARD ROYCE
Washington (U.S.), June
8 (ANI): Calling for closer
anti-terrorist cooperation
to combat terrorism, the
Chairman of the U.S. House
Committee, Edward Royce,
on Wednesday said that
the attackers of Pathankot
terror attacks must
be brought to justice, and
added that if they were
LANKA PRESIDENT VOWS
TO ERADICATE LTTE IDEOLOGY
(PTI) President Maithripala
Sirisena has vowed to
“eradicate the LTTE ideology”
which is still present
locally and globally to ensure
long lasting peace in
Sri Lanka.
“I want to eradicate the
Islamabad, then the International
Court of Justice
at The Hague must step in
and do the needful.
Royce told ANI that it is
important to send a strong
message to all radical
groups across the globe
that all nations stand united
in their opposition to
terrorism.
“The attackers of the
LTTE ideology completely
both locally and internationally,
Sirisena told last
night addressing a gathering
in the suburbs of Colombo’s
Dehiwela.
He said since being
elected he had been able
Pathankot terror attack
must be brought to justice.
That is the role of the
International community
to work together to make
certain that justice happens
and if they are not
going to be tried in Islamabad,
the terrorists need
to be taken to the Hague
and charged with crimes
against humanity. Because
we must send the message
that we are united in our
opposition to terrorist attacks,”
said Royce.
“I think we need much
closer anti-terrorist cooperation.
We’ve stayed in
Mumbai in the Taj, right
after that attack I travelled
to India to talk to authorities,
about how we could
create more cooperation.
At the same time we were
trying to put pressure on
the civilian government
to cultivate
friendships
with all world
leaders. He
would rely
on their assistance
achieve reconciliation.
I will ensure
a country
where all
communities
live together
in peaceful
co-existence,
harmony. This
will be a society
where everyone
is treated equally,
he said.
We ended the war and
silenced the guns, but for
long lasting peace we have
not been able to eradicate
the LTTE ideology (of a
these terrorist continue
to expand and carry out
these attacks and that we
need their cooperation in
bringing these individuals
to justice,” he added.
Royce further asserted
that the international
community needs to
build pressure and device
new methods to break the
backs of terrorist organisations.
“The international community
needs to build
pressure. We need to work
more closely with counter
terror cooperation.
We need to device new
methodology for being
able to break the back of
the Haqqani network and
some of these other terrorist
organisations,” said
Royce. (ANI)
Sirisena took power in
January 2015 and assured
to take serious steps to win
over the Tamil community
who had preferred him
over Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Tamils while noting the
progress stay unhappy
with the slowness of the
process.
Sirisena said what is
paramount to the country
was the peace between the
majority Sinhalese and the
Tamil and Muslim minorities.
killed the Tamil Tiger rebel
leader Velupillai Prabhakaran
FESTIVAL OF INDIAN POETRY TO BE
HELD IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
Embassy of India in Argentina
is organising an
Indian poetry Festival in
association with the prestigious
Inter American
University (UIA) in Buenos
Aires on 11 June along the
Buenos Aires Poetry Festival
(7-11 June).
In the festival Indian
poet-diplomat Abhay K
will read his new poems
written during his stay
and travels in Latin America
along with legendary
poet-dancer of Argentina,
Myrta Barvie and poet
Yuyutsu RD Sharma. Abhay
K has also been invited
to deliver a talk on 3000
years of Indian poetry´´
at the Argentinian Council
of International Relations
(CARI) on 10th June on the
sidelines of the festival.
Abhay K´s poems on
Jorge Luis Borges, the famous
Argentinian writer,
Cesar Vallejo, one of the
greatest poets of Peru
,Ghalib, and Dara Shikoh
have been translated
into Spanish by Professor
Alicia Silvestre Miralles
from Spain. Last month
the Indian poet-diplomat
was invited by the Peruvian
House of Literature
in Lima to read his poems
and have a literary dialogue
with the Peruvian
poet Oscar Limache.
Myrta Barvie is known
as an Argentinian icon
of Indian dance. She was
trained in Bharatnatyam at
Kalakshetra under Rukmini
Devi and did her Arangetram
there. Later she
learnt Odissi from Guru
Keluchara Mohapatra and
got a Nritya Visharad degree
from Kala Vikash Kendra
in Orissa. She went on
to learn Kuchipudi at the
Kuchipudi Art Academy in
Chennai, from Master Vempati
Chinnasatyam.
Nobel laureate Rabindranath
Tagore’s connections
with poet Victoria Ocampo
of Argentina is well
known. Tagore had stayed
at a villa in the suburb of
Buenos Aires in Argentina
for two months in November
and December of 1924
on the request of Argentinian
writer Victoria Ocampo.
Later she organized
an exhibition of Tagore´s
paintings in Paris in 1930.
Jorge Luis Borges had read
Mahabharata in German
and was fascinated by Yaksha-Yudhisthara
dialogue
and borrowed Indian philosophy
of non-dualism
(Advaita) heavily in his
short-stories.
The Indian poetry festival
and talk on 3000 years
of Indian poetry are all set
to strengthen India- Argentina
literary and cultural
ties. (ANI)
FESTIVAL OF INDIAN POETRY TO BE
HELD IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
Indian-American Congressman
Ami Behra on
Wednesday said the relationship
between New
Delhi and Washington is
moving in a positive direction
courtesy Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s vision
and said the entrepreneurs
of both sides investing
in each other’s nation
is a testament to the fact.
Behra, who was commenting
on Prime Minister
Modi’s address to the
US-India Business Council
in Washington, said New
Delhi is emerging as a major
player on global platform,
adding having an
ally with shared values of
democracy is always good.
Behra told ANI that India
has started engaging
more around the world,
whether it is the Middle
East or Africa.
“The United States recognizes
India as a vital
and strategic partner in
maintaining peace in the
world,” he added.
Behra appreciated
Prime Minister Modi’s efforts
with regard to the
new Indian companies investing
more frequently in
the United States and said
the relationship is definitely
moving in a positive
direction.
“I think Prime Minister
Modi, what he said this
evening, is speaking directly
to the Indian-American
community to stand
up and help continue to
move the relationship forward
between the United
States and India forward.
And we see the community
is starting to get back,
you see the U.S. and Indian-American
entrepreneurs
investing in India
and vice-versa,” he added.
Behra further said that
things look very different
at the moment than what
they were even four years
ago, adding that people
now feel very optimistic
on the business side.
Addressing the US-India
Business Council in
Washington earlier, Prime
Minister Modi said India
is poised to contribute
as new engine of global
growth.
He said the world needs
a new engine of growth
and a larger Indian economy
has multiple benefits
for the globe.
Prime Minister Modi
said India has emerged as
one of the fastest growing
economies in the world.
He urged the American
businessmen to invest in
India and set-up efficient
manufacturing units.
The Prime Minister said
that his government has
taken several steps to prevent
corruption and facilitate
the ease of doing business
in India.
Asserting that his government
is committed to
continue opening up the
defence sector, Prime Minister
Modi said his government
has taken major
steps to ensure greater
accountability in banking
sector.
He said many social
security schemes, including
accident insurance
scheme, life insurance
scheme and Pradhan Mantri
Mudra Yojana, have
been introduced for the
betterment of people.
CHINA FIGHTER JET MADE ‘UNSAFE’
INTERCEPT OF AMERICAN SPY PLANE: US
A Chinese fighter jet
carried out an “unsafe” intercept
of a US spy plane
in international airspace
over the East China Sea,
two US defence officials
said on Tuesday.
The intercept involved a
Chinese J-10 fighter plane
and a US Air Force RC-135
reconnaissance plane, the
officials said.
The officials, who requested
anonymity, said
the air crew deemed the
encounter to be “unsafe”
because of the “high rate
of speed” at which the Chinese
jet was travelling.
In May, the Pentagon
said that two Chinese
fighter jets flew within
50 feet (15 meters) of a
US EP-3 aircraft over the
South China Sea.
The Pentagon determined
that the May incident
violated an agreement
the two governments
signed last year.
Earlier this week, Secretary
of State John Kerry
said the United States
would consider any Chinese
establishment of an
air defence zone over the
South China Sea to be a
“provocative and destabilising
act.”
US officials have expressed
concern that an
international court ruling
expected in coming weeks
on a case brought by the
Philippines against China
over its South China Sea
claims could prompt Beijing
to declare an air defence
identification zone,
or ADIZ, as it did over the
East China Sea in 2013.
China has claimed most
of the South China Sea,
through which $5 trillion
in ship-borne trade passes
every year. The Philippines,
Vietnam, Malaysia,
Taiwan and Brunei have
overlapping claims.
Washington has accused
Beijing of militarising the
South China Sea after creating
artificial islands. Beijing,
in turn, has criticized
increased US naval patrols
and exercises in Asia.
During a conference in
Singapore last week, Defense
Secretary Ash Carter
said the US approach to the
Asia-Pacific remained “one
of commitment, strength
and inclusion”, but he
warned China against
provocative behaviour in
the South China Sea.

SHASTRI AND HIS CONDITIONS
The former Team India
director, who looks a distinct
favourite for the post
of chief coach despite applications
from high profile
former India players, has
told the BCCI that the support
staff under him should
be retained if he were to be
selected for the job. While
submitting his application
for the head coach’s post,
Ravi Shastri has put a condition
before the Board of
Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI).
Shastri was heading a
long list of personnel who
have worked with him for
Team India in the last 18
months and the former India
captain has specifically
asked for the retention of
six of his former assistants.
According to information
received from reliable
sources, Shastri wants
Diana Baig shifts restlessly
in her seat, checking
her watch every few seconds
at an awards ceremony
after leading her cricket
team to victory. Soon she
has to play a football match
at another venue, and time
is ticking. Baig is no stranger
to the pressure. The talented
20-year-old plays for
Pakistan’s national team in
both cricket and football.
Representing the country
as one of the “Girls in
Green” at the recent World
Bharat Arun (bowling
coach), Sanjay Bangar (batting
coach), R Sreedhar
(fielding coach), Patrick
Farhart (physio), Sankar
Basu (trainer) and Raghu
(a team assistant) to be
retained. The last named
is a young assistant to the
coaching staff who does
millions of throws at the
batsmen in the nets.
The BCCI has made it
clear that the new head
coach will have a free hand
in picking his assistants
and Shastri seems to believe
in his team of coaches
who “have done well for the
side.” Besides, the thinking
seems to be that someone,
who is currently associated
with an international side
or with international cricket,
should be picked.
HEAD OF #GIRLSINGREEN: PAK’S NEW
RISING SPORTS STAR
Twenty20 in India, practicing
her penalty shoot-out
skills in between, she has
planned well in advance.
She did not make the starting
team, but being at the
tournament — even from
the sidelines — was “very
encouraging for me — it
gave me new life, a new energy”.
The 20-year-old grew up
playing street cricket and
football with other children
in the magnificent Hunza
Valley, their makeshift arenas
ringed by some of the
world’s tallest mountains
in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan.
The fact that she was a
girl did not matter, she says:
Baig belongs to the Ismaili
sect of Shia Islam, who are
followers of the Aga Khan
— infamous in conservative
Pakistan for their moderate
views. That largely
freed her from the restrictions
placed on other, more
conservative women in the
Muslim country, where her
gender is battling for greater
freedom.
From the streets, Baig
began playing in community
events and for local
teams, and by 2010 she was
leading the newly-formed
Gilgit-Baltistan women’s
team.
Two years later, she was
selected for Pakistan’s A
side, and then as a reserve
player for the 2013 World
Cup. In 2015 she finally
won her first international
cap, playing for Pakistan
against Bangladesh.
But Baig says she had
her moments of despair
along the way. But while
playing cricket in Islamabad
in 2010, Baig tried out
for the Gilgit-Baltistan football
team on a whim after
friends told her they needed
players.
She made into the team
and, to her disbelief, in
2014 was selected to play
for Pakistan at the SAFF
Championships in Bahrain.
She has been a member of
the starting 11 as a defender
ever since, she says, unable
to hide her excitement.
Baig has had to fight harder
for her cricket career.
Unlike in men’s cricket,
Pakistan’s women’s players
are not contracted and
are selected on a match
by match basis from lower-ranked
teams, such as
the several hundred playing
at the provincial level.
That means that there were
times when Baig was in —
and times when she was
out. Fighting to keep her
place was complicated by
the fact that again, unlike
the men Pakistan’s women
OBAMA WON’T BE ABLE TO ATTEND ALI’S FUNERAL
The White House has
said President Barack
Obama will not attend
Muhammad Ali’s funeral,
which coincides with his
oldest daughter’s graduation.
“They will be attending
Malia’s high school
graduation ceremony in
Washington, DC,” said
spokeswoman Jen Friedman.
However, following
Prime Minister Nawaz
Sharif’s orders, Ambassador
of Pakistan in the United
States Jalil Abbas Jilani
will be attending legendary
boxer Muhammad Ali’s funeral
on Friday. Jilani will
represent the people and
government of Pakistan.
President Barack Obama
paid tribute Saturday to
Teenager Taylor Fritz
earned the chance to face
his hero Roger Federer after
the American defeated
an unranked French qualifier
on Tuesday to reach
the second round in Stuttgart.
Federer will be playing
late boxing great Muhammad
Ali, as a towering
champion “who fought for
what was right” not just in
the ring but outside it as
well.
The former heavyweight
champion, who passed
away late Friday after
struggling for years with
Parkinson’s, was a man who
fought for us, the US president
said. Ali, who died last
Friday of septic shock at
the age of 74, will be put to
rest on Friday in his hometown
of Louisville. Obama
has offered his condolences
BATTLE WITH STAR: IT’S CRAZY TO BE
STEPPING ONTO THE COURT WITH FEDERER
his first match in nearly a
month after recovering from
back pain and skipping the
French Open, as he ramps up
his preparations for Wimbledon.
Number 65 Fritz has
had time on court with the
Swiss legend, a Wimbledon
training session a year ago.
Fritz, 18, said he will not
worry with nerves when he
faces one of the best players
on the planet. The teenager
said he had watched and admired
Federer as a boy aged
11.
“I cannot remember the
first time I heard the name
of Federer or saw him on TV.
But it’s amazing to play him
in the next round. I grew up
in the generation when he
was just dominating everyone.
It’s crazy to be stepping
onto the court with him; I
never thought that would
happen.”
Russian Mikhail Youzhny
surprised grass-loving
Spaniard Feliciano Lopez,
the fifth seeded winner of
the French Open doubles
title, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. German
sixth seed Viktor Troicki 6-4,
7-6 (7/4) and home seventh
seed Philipp Kohlschreiber
stopped Pierre-Hughes
Herbert of France 6-4, 6-1.
Czech qualifier Radek Stepanek,
still going strong at
age 37, booked into the second
round as he beat Denis
Istomin 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Marcos
Baghdatis spent 15 minutes
Shastri himself would
not want to comment but
he told a news agency on
Monday that whatever is
needed by the BCCI has
been submitted. Shastri is
understood to have highlighted
the achievements
of the team under him -
semi-finals in the World
Cup, World Twenty20, Test
No 1, ODI No 1, T20 No 2,
T20 whitewash in Australia,
Test wins against South
Africa at home, etc.
The BCCI is understood
to have received an overwhelming
response to the
advertisement, including
from abroad, although
there is no information of
a high profile foreign candidate
showing interest so
far. There is still time left
as the applications close on
June 10
have no regular facilities
or practice time, meaning
Baig was forced to rely on
training with her university
team to keep up to international
standard.
But her selection for the
World T20 meant the hard
work on the playing fields
at the Lahore College for
Women University had
paid off. The women’s team
received unprecedented
support from Pakistani fans
disillusioned by the men’s
dismal performance during
the World T20 in India,
with the hashtag #Girlsin-
Green trending.
With cricket taking up
more and more time, her
studies she is on a full
scholarship at the university,
where she is in her first
semester of a health and
physical education degree
are suffering, Baig admits.
Friday at the high school
commencement ceremony
letter to Ali’s family, which
will travel to Kentucky with
White House senior adviser
Valerie Jarrett, who knew
the late boxer. Former President
Bill Clinton will speak
at the funeral, and numerous
other dignitaries — including
Turkish President
Recep Tayyip Erdogan —
will be among the congregation
arguing after just two games
that the court might have
slippery spots, and then
lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to German
Jan-Lennard Struff. Unseeded
Argentine wild card Del
Potro posted a victory over
Grigor Dimitrov, with the
6-4, 6-2 result marking the
fourth straight first-round
loss for the one-time Bulgarian
phenomenon.
SA RETURNS AFTER ODI WIN
South Africa roared
back into contention in the
Tri-Nation One-Day International
series with a 47-
run victory over Australia
in the third match of the
tournament. It was held at
the Guyana National Stadium.
Defending a modest
189 for nine on another
pitch that challenged the
patience and technique of
all batsmen, the Proteas
bowlers were resisted only
by opener Aaron Finch’s
defiant 72 before he was
ninth out as the World
Cup-holders folded for 142
off 34.2 overs. By virtue
of their margin of victory,
South Africa also earned
a bonus point and leapt
from last to first on net runrate
over Australia, leaving
hosts West Indies third.
Competition resumes in
St Kitts on Saturday with
South Africa and Australia
renewing their rivalry
at Warner Park. Rabada
disposed of Usman Khawaja
in his opening spell
and returned to account
for wicket keeper-batsman
Matthew Wade and tail
ender Nathan Coulter-Nile
in an excellent display of
controlled fast bowling. His
effort was supported by
Wayne Parnell, who shared
the new ball and got rid of
the dangerous David Warner
in his very first over.
Playing his first ODI for
almost 16 months, Parnell
then trapped Australian
captain Steve Smith leg-before.
Spinners Imran Tahir
and Aaron Phangiso then
tightened the stranglehold
with two wickets apiece,
while Tabraiz Shamsi, the
left-arm leggie, marked his
debut with the wicket of
Glenn Maxwell in his first
over to ensure there was
no escape for the Aussies.
“We started well with the
two seamers although this
wasn’t the kind of surface
where they were having the
time of their lives,” captain
AB de Villiers said.
THE UNITED STATES
THUMPED COSTA RICA 4-0
Colombia became the
first side to reach the
quarter-finals of
the Copa America
Centenario on
Tuesday, while
the United States
thumped Costa
Rica 4-0 to get
their campaign
back on track.
Goals from AC Milan’s
Carlos Bacca
and Real Madrid
star James Rodriguez
secured
a 2-1 win for Colombia
over Paraguay
in front
of a vocal crowd
at the Pasadena
Rose Bowl in California.
Victor Ayala gave Paraguay
hope after pulling a
goal back on 71 minutes
but Colombia held on for
three points which means
they are assured of a top
two finish in Group A and
a place in the last eight.
Colombia need only to
draw against Costa Rica
on Saturday to assure
themselves of first place,
leaving them a potentially
easier quarter-final
against the runner-up
from Group B, which contains
Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti
and Peru.
In Tuesday’s other
game, US striker Clint
Dempsey scored his 50th
international goal as the
host nation bounced back
from their 2-0 loss to Colombia
on Friday with a
convincing rout of Costa
Rica. Dempsey opened the
scoring from the penalty
spot after nine minutes
before Jermaine
Jones and Bobby
Wood struck just
before half-time to
effectively settle
the contest.
Substitute Graham
Zusi added a
fourth goal three
minutes from time,
which could prove
crucial if goal difference
comes into
play. The win came
as a welcome relief
for US coach Jurgen
Klinsmann, whose
tenure has faced
mounting criticism
over the past 18 months
after a series of disappointing
performances
in competitive matches.
United States Soccer Federation
chief Sunil Gulati
had fueled fresh speculation
about Klinsmann’s
position only hours before
kickoff, telling journalists:
“No one has iron-clad job
security.”
SHARAPOVA BANNED FOR
TWO YEARS
Maria Sharapova has
been banned for two
years by the International
Tennis Federation after
failing a drugs test. The
Russian was provisionally
banned in March after
testing positive for meldonium
at January’s Australian
Open.
The heart disease drug,
which 29-year-old Sharapova
says she has been
taking since 2006 for
health issues, became a
banned substance on 1
January 2016. The fivetime
Grand Slam winner
says she will appeal
against the ban, which is
backdated to 26 January
2016. Meldonium was
barely on the radar until
five-time Grand Slam
champion Maria Sharapova
revealed she recorded
a positive drugs test for
the substance.
The world number one
has been provisionally
suspended from 12 March
and could eventually be
hit with a four-year ban.

HILIGHTS
Vol 1, Rs.1.00/-
BUSINESS
RBI Governor Raghuram
Rajan today said it will
be “cruel” of him to “spoil
the fun” media was having
with speculation over his
extension even as he enumerated
an “unfinished
agenda” on financial inclusion
and cleaning up of
books of PSU banks.
He also said that a decision
is reached in such
cases after discussions between
the government and
the incumbent.
NOT CRUEL TO SPOIL THE MEDIA FUN:
RAJAN ON 2ND TERM
Amid intense speculation
on whether he would
continue or not as RBI Governor,
an otherwise outspoken
Rajan came armed
with a prepared statement
on this issue to his customary
post-policy press
conference and read it out
word-to-word when asked
whether he would be there
in September-October period.
“As far as the question
of me continuing in this
position after September
4 goes, it would be cruel
of me to spoil the fun the
press is having,” said Rajan,
whose three-year term
ends on September 3.The
Governor also said he is
“intrigued” by the many
letters purported to be
written by him which keep
coming up in the press, apparently
referring to some
unconfirmed reports that
he was concerned about
markets getting impacted
by speculation surrounding
his continuation. A decision
is reached after discussions
between the government
and the incumbent. I am
sure you will know when
there is news. I cannot do
better than point you to the
statements of the Finance
Minister and the Prime
Minister on this,” Rajan
said.
In an interview last week
in Tokyo, Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley had denounced
the personal attacks on
Rajan saying the debate
should be about issues and
policies, and not about the
personalities, while Prime
Minister Narendra Modi
told WSJ recently that
appointment of the RBI
Governor was an administrative
subject which was
none of media’s business.
The ruling BJP’s recently
nominated Rajya Sabha
member Subramanian
Swamy has been attacking
Rajan’s inflation-focused
policies on interest rate,
questioning his commitment
to the nationalistic
cause as he was not mentally
fully Indian.
Swamy had written two
letters within a fortnight to
Modi demanding termination
of Rajan’s service.
The investor community
however looks at Rajan
as a source of stability and
there have been a series of
statements in his support,
warning of flight of capital
if he is not given a second
term.
Meanwhile, asserting
that he has delivered on
the key focus areas he had
stated at the time of assuming
charge, Rajan today
said there are a lot of items
which can be an unfinished
agenda in the short-term. .
INDIA INC HAPPY WITH THE NEW RBI POLICY
Leading bankers have
welcomed the Reserve
Bank’s accommodative policy
and expressed the hope
that RBI’s caution on inflation
front is whittled by a
good monsoon.
Terming the policy outcome
as expected, State
Bank of India Chairperson
Arundhati Bhattacharya
said, “The tone of the policy
is fairly balanced, pragmatic
and continues to reflect
accommodative cycle.
Inflation trajectory seems
broadly in line with RBI
prognosis, though we are
fairly hopeful of inflation
possibly undershooting
the 5 per cent target set for
March 2017,” the SBI chief
said.
Her peer from private
sector ICICI Bank Chanda
Kochhar said the continued
commitment to an accommodative
policy stance and
the assurance of moving
towards a neutral liquidity
framework is positive,
which should continue to
support transmission of the
RBI’s policy stance.
“The reassurance that
the RBI stands ready to
mitigate any financial
volatility resulting out of
FCNR deposit maturities
due later this year is very
welcome. Overall, macroeconomic
conditions are
conducive for an improving
growth trajectory as the
various policy measures
announced by the Government
take effect.”
Melwyn Rego of Bank
of India welcomed the RBI
measures to address the liquidity
deficit in the system
by promising to progressively
lower the average
ex-ante from 1 per cent of
NDTL to a position closer
to neutrality.
“The move will help in
quicker transmission of
monetary policy initiatives,
with MCLR framework
in place, which will
lend support to growth. It
is comforting to note that
liquidity is expected to be
stable during the period of
outflow of FCNR deposits,”
Rego said.
Mid-sized private lender
Yes Bank’s Rana Kapoor
expressed hope that with a
food monsoon, RBI’s cautious
stance on inflation
would give way to accommodative
actions in August.
Abheek Barua, chief
economist at HDFC Bank,
termed the policy move on
expected lines and attributed
this stance to firming
commodity prices, ambiguity
related to the implementation
of the Seventh
Pay Commission recommendations
and uptick in
inflation expectations driven
by the upside surprise in
the CPI reading in April.
On the cautious stance
on inflation, Barua said although
there are marginal
upside risks to the inflation
target of 5 per cent “we believe
the structural movement
is towards a low-inflation
economy.
“We still see the possibility
of another 25 bps cut
in the policy rate this fiscal
provided the monsoon is
normal and evenly distributed,
commodity prices do
not rise and the global environment
is benign,” Barua
said.
SMART CITIES ARE ‘OVER’
SMART ENOUGH FOR DIDI
West Bengal Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee today
expressed confidence and
optimism on the Goods and
Services Tax (GST), along
with which she raised concern
over ‘Smart City’ project,
another flagship project
of the BJP-led NDA government.
“We are fighting for GST
as it will help industry with
single point tax instead of
multiple layers of taxation.
Our Finance Minister Amit
Mitra is leading the committee
on GST and I think in the
next one or two meetings it
will be resolved,” Banerjee
told a gathering of business
and industry chambers at
a felicitation programme
here.
RUPEE LEAPS BY 20PAISE TO 66.77
The rupee
continues to
conquer firm
against the
American currency
for the
fourth consecutive
day, moving
up by another
20paise
to close at a
fresh threeweek
high of
66.77 on sustained selling
of dollars by banks and exporters
amid strong recovery
in domestic equities.
Expectations of foreign
capital inflows in view of
robust domestic equities
boosted the rupee value
against the dollar, a forex
dealer said.
The BSE benchmark Sensex
bounced back by 232.22
points to close above the
27,000-level after a gap of
over 7 months at 27,009.67
to BJP government but we
support programmes which
are pro-people and industry,”
she said elaborating her
government’s stand on GST.
The GST Bill - which creates
a single national sales
tax to replace several state
and central levies has already
been approved by
the Lok Sabha or Lower
House of Parliament and is
pending in the Upper House
where the NDA government
doesn’t have a majority.
According to ‘smart city’
status to Rajarhat, she said,
“The theory smart city is
wrong as we will have to
give Rs 500crore to get Rs
500crore.”
“The project aims to
make a building with all
on fresh buying mainly in
interest-based counters as
the Reserve Bank kept its
key policy rate unchanged
and indication of a rate cut
in near future.
The rupee resumed higher
at 66.92 as against the
last closing level of 66.97
per dollar at the Interbank
Foreign Exchange (Forex)
market and hovered in a
range of 66.72 and 66.94
before finishing at 66.77,
showing a gain of 20 paise
or 0.30 per cent.
smart facilities. We can do a
lot with that money for the
benefit of the masses,” Banerjee
said.
The state government
has handed over a concept
plan to develop Rajarhat
New Town as a ‘smart green
city’ to the Union Urban
Development ministry. The
plan has been prepared by
the National Institute of
Smart Governance (NISG).
“Rajarhat is an ‘oversmart’
city,” she commented.
“We already have six
smart city projects. What is
Bengal Credai doing?” she
said and asked the chambers
of industry to iron out
any issue with the state finance
minister and begin
the projects.
The domestic currency
had last clocked
at 66.77 per dollar on
May 13, 2016. The
rupee has gained by
68paise or 1.01 per
cent in four days.
Meanwhile, the
dollar index was
down by 0.12 per cent
against the basket of
six global currencies
and parallel to it the
RBI fixed the reference rate
for the dollar at 66.8305
and euro at 75.9194.
In cross-currency trades,
the rupee dropped against
the pound sterling to end
at 97.40 from 96.98 on
Monday while recovered
against the euro to 75.78
per euro from 75.99.
The domestic currency
also moved up against the
yen to 61.97 per 100 yens
from 62.50 on Monday.
HEALTH
It really doesn’t matter whether
you are training for a marathon
or just want to shed those extra
pounds or you want to give some
extra TLC to your cardiovascular
system. If you want to improve your
running stamina, then you should
include the following tips in your
training:
1. HIIT:
High Intensity Interval Training
(HIIT) is important to improve
your aerobic capacity. Your workout
schedule should consist of at
least 3 HIIT sessions every week.
HIIT helps you train your heart and
lungs better. Your workout should
consist the upper body as well as
lower body moves. You can add in
strength moves in your hold time in
between the high intensity moves.
2. Plyometrics:
Another thing that must be a part
of your training is plyometrics. All
athletes train their cardiovascular
system to improve their VO2 by
incorporating explosive exercises
in their workouts. Explosive exercises
or plyometrics like burpees,
9 TIPS TO IMPROVE RUNNING STAMINA
squat jumps, jumping lunges, froggy
jumps, etc. not only improve
VO2, but also burn lots of calories.
3. Strength Training:
Your legs and core
should be strong
enough to carry you
to a 5k distance.
Most people think
that running is
through and through
a cardio. They ignore
the fact that strength
training plays an important role as
a part of any workout. This is quite
wrong. Your leg muscles and the
strength of your core help you in
running better and longer. Strong
muscles equal increased power and
power leads to speed and stamina.
4. Keep Running:
Okay, so you are feeling like
you are just about to pass out after
running only for 5-10 minutes.
So what? This does not
mean you are going to
quit so early! No, you
got to keep running and
keep moving. See, you
know your body adjusts to almost
everything provided we give them
enough time. To improve your running
stamina, you need to keep running
and keep trying. But
remember, it is a gradual
process. Go by the 10%
rule. Run as much and as
long as you can at your
preferred pace the first
week and then if you get
comfortable with that
pace, you just increase
your pace or distance by
10%. It’s okay, if it takes
more than a week. Take
your time, but don’t you
dare to quit!
5. Interval Training:
Interval training is another technique
used by professionals to improve
their stamina, endurance
and speed. Interval training here
involves alternating your running
pace and style. For example, run
into a sprint as fast as you can for
30 seconds and then slow down to
75% level of your capacity and run
at that speed for another 2 minutes.
Then you can again burst into a
sprint. You can try running on the
inclined path too. Experiment with
your own plan or you can search
the web for set routines2
6. Music:
This one is actually most effective.
Your stride rate also matters
when you are trying to improve
your running stamina. Music helps
you in getting into the flow and
keep moving. We tend to match our
steps to the beats. So make your
workout playlist and load whatever
kind of music that helps in moving
your butt. That fills you with energy
and gets you grooving. Trust me,
you’ll find you ran an extra mile or
two.
7. Stretching:
Do not go running without a good
warm-up and never skip your cool
down. Stretching is an almost inseparable
part of the workout of the
professional athletes. Stretch your
muscles with nice dynamic stretching
exercises to warm up your body.
Do some static stretching exercises
and some yoga to stretch your
muscles after you complete your
run. Stretching before running also
loosens up the muscles and helps in
better performance.
8. Diet:
Taking care of your diet is imperative
if you want to improve your
running stamina. You need to fuel
the machine if you want it to work
at its best. Make sure you put good
lean proteins
and
g o o d
carbs in
your body.
You need
good food
to get your
energy.
9. Rest:
Yes, it is
important
to let your
body rest,
so that
you’re
tired, sore
muscles
get time to
heal and
repair. You
can’t run
like a free
tiger with
a tired
body. So,
get your
minimum 7 hr sleep every day. And
also do not go running every day.
Mix it up with other kinds of workouts.
There are other things you
should keep in mind like your running
form, getting a good pair of
training shoes and hydrating yourself
properly. These things may not
directly improve your stamina, but
they do affect your running. If your
shoes are not good, they can not
only lead to injury, but also interfere
with how much, how long and
how well you are able to run. Similarly
a dehydrated body won’t cover
miles at a nice pace for you.
So follow these tips and set your
training routine according to these.
They will surely help you to run
around like a free and wild spirit
with which you were born. Do not
forget to share your thoughts if any
with us.

A BIG SHOUT-OUT TO
ABRAM FAN
Looks like, the expression ‘like father like son’ is dead-on when it comes to
Shahrukh Khan and his tiny tot AbRam, as he completely takes over his father in
the parameter of ‘extreme cuteness.’
In a video shared on ‘iamabramkhan’ Instagram account, the three-year-old
youngest Khan is seen kissing elder Brother Aryan’s friend which was too adorable
to ignore.
While, Abram takes away our heart with every appearance, we can’t really wait
for him to grow up and charm us even more.
