KPSC CANDIDATES ALLEGE FDA, SDA EXAM PAPER LEAK, DEMAND CBI ROBE 

18 COMPLAINTS AGAINST BHATT: LOKAYUKTA 

The controversy on the 

appointment of T Sham 

Bhatt as the chairperson 

of Karnataka Public Service 

Commission (KPSC) 

has reached a boiling point 

after Lokayukta office sent 

a report to the Raj Bhavan 

reportedly on the status of 

18 complaints against him. 

The report from the Lokayukta 

office stated that 

18 complaints are pending 

against Bhatt and are still at 

the stage of scrutiny as the 

post of Lokayukta is vacant 

for the last six months. The 

report also said that two 

cases had been sent to the 

government for initiating 

action against Bhatt. The 

name of the 1992 batch IAS 

officer was recommended 

by the State government on 

May 18, 2016 for appointment 

to KPSC. The Governor’s 

office had asked a 

detailed report on the complaints 

against Bhatt. 

.One of the two complaints 

was regarding the 

allotment of industrial land 

in Bommasandra Industrial 

Area when Bhatt was the 

CEO of Karnataka Industrial 

Areas Development Board. 

.Earlier on Tuesday Legislative 

Assembly Speaker 

Kagodu Thimmappa said 

that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah 

had committed a 

mistake by recommending 

T Sham Bhatt for the post of 

chairperson of KPSC. 

He told that he personally 

felt that Bhatt was not 

suitable for the post. 

Candidates who attempted 

the FDA and SDA exam conducted 

by KPSC in October of 2015 held 

a protest at Freedom Park on 

Wednesday. The candidates claim 

that the FDA and SDA exam question 

papers were leaked. They are 

demanding the state government 

to order for a CBI probe into the 

matter and also conduct re-exam 

for FDA and SDA. 

According to the candidates, 

the First division assistant, Second 

division assistant, junior 

assistant competitive exams 

held on 4th and 8th of October 

2015 were leaked a day before 

the exams were conducted. They 

also allege that the papers were 

leaked by the same people who 

have been accused of leaking II 

PUC question papers this year 

with the help of KPSC officials. 

The candidates claim that they 

have submitted a letter of request 

to KPSC Secretary Manoj Kumar 

Meena at his office but no action 

was taken. The matter was even 

brought to the CM’s notice on a 

radio show last month, even then, 

no action was taken and KPSC 

went ahead and released 1:2 merit 

list on 13th and 31st of May. 

Questioning the motive behind 

the reduction of examination 

time from two hours to one 

and half hour, the candidates say 

this year, names of candidates 

under General Merit who have 

scored 74 percent were not in the 

merit list unlike last time. 

The candidates now demand 

the FDA and SDA recruitments 

be stopped, a CBI enquiry be ordered 

and a re-exam be conducted. 

TWO-WHEELER THIEVES ARRESTED IN KUMARASWAMY LAYOUT 

Kumaraswamy Layout Police 

arrested 3 two wheeler 

thieves and recovered 9 two 

wheelers worth Rs. 3,50,000 

on Sunday. The police were 

on the lookout for chain 

snatchers and two-wheeler 

thieves after complaints of 

theft increased in Kumaraswamy 

Layout. During one 

such vehicle inspection, 

the police spotted 3 suspicious 

looking youth trying 

to evade them. They were 

immediately taken into custody 

and interrogated. The 

police recovered vehicles 

stolen from Banashankari, 

Jayanagar, J P Nagar and 

Thalaghattapura. 

The arrested youth are 

Sayad Salman 20, Irfan 

Khan, 21 and Irfan Pasha, 

20, all residents of Banashankari.

what happens is that if we have examination

or examination on 

a different date arranged. I 

will be taking this suggestion 

to the board,” Pratiksha said. 

Harshitha R, a second 

year Bsc student from SJR 

College for women has decided 

to put forward the issues 

of discrepancies in the exam 

results and valuation to the 

board. 

Raju M Havannavaru, 

the NSS representative said, 

“I want to request the board 

to make sure there are no 

preferences given in terms of 

internal marks being awarded. 

Every function should be 

completely corruption free. 

Also, there should be no involvement 

or interference of any politician 

in the matter of the board.” 

In an order issued last month, 

KK Seethamma, Registrar (Administration) 

appointed six students 

with immediate effect for a period 

of two years. 

‘MISSION HOPE’ A NEW 

INITIATIVE BY STUDENTS 

K S Hegde College students have 

made an attempt to bring light in 

the lives of the exploited by starting 

an association ‘Mission Hope’ for 

social work. 

Usually students like to spend 

their holidays in a way that gives 

them relief from the study tension. 

Some choose to watch films and 

some others go on a vacation. But 

these students set an example for 

the others who spend their time 

leisurely in relieving themselves. 

The students, who come forward 

to help the poor, started the 

association on 16th January this 

year while others were celebrating 

the Panambur Kite festival. They 

started counselling and making 

aware of the harmful effects of the 

drugs and other vices to the addicts. 

Later they found no fruit in 

merely advising the addicts. Then, 

with the help of Nitte university 

vice-chancellor and college Dean, 

Kshema, medical college students 

started ‘Mission Hope’ on April 

16th this year. 

They kept donation boxes everywhere 

in the college, hostel 

administrative office and hospital. 

The boxes had a writing on it, 

“Used clothes, books, bags, toys, 

pens and pencils in them”. They collected 

nearly 500 kilograms used 

clothes in a month. Adding to these 

places the boxes were kept out for 

the same purpose nearby. Father 

Muller Hospital staff and students 

joined hands in the work. Nearly 

30 students collected items during 

holidays and in the evenings. 

They distributed the collected 

items to the residents of Snehalaya 

in Uppala and children of Balasamrakshana 

center. The Mission Hope 

students spent time with orphanage 

residents and spoke to them 

understanding their hardships. The 

remaining items were distributed 

among more than 100 daily wage 

workers in the hospital premises.

will join the mega protest rally

Pakistan has expressed serious 

concerns over India’s recent 

development of an anti-ballistic 

missile system, saying that it 

may give India a false sense of 

security, leading to unexpected

test-fired indigenously 

developed supersonic interceptor 

missile, capable of destroying

The criticism came up in the 

Senate meeting yesterday, the

pursued by India are 

now leading to nuclearisation of 

the Indian Ocean,” saidAdviser 

on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. 

“The development of an anti-ballistic 

missile system (ABM) 

may give India a false sense of 

security, leading to unexpected 

complications. Such actions are 

also contrary to the policy of a 

peaceful and friendly neighbourhood, 

which our prime minister 

(Nawaz Sharif) has repeatedly 

espoused,” Aziz said. 

“Pakistan has serious concerns 

over these developments 

and will take all necessary measures 

to augment its defence capabilities,”

Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter and 

Pinterest accounts were hacked 

by a hacker group who claimed to 

have obtained passwords from his 

LinkedIn account during a 2012 

data breach, according to a media 

report. 

The hacker group called ‘Our- 

Mine Team’, who have more than 

40,000 Twitter followers wrote 

from Zuckerberg’s Twitter page 

“Hey @finkd, you were in Linkedin 

Database with the password 

‘dadada’ !” 

On his Pinterest, the new title 

was “Hacked by OurMine Team.” 

The group has claimed that the 

password leaked through a massive 

LinkedIn data breach in 2012 

with more than 164 million users’ 

data stolen, The New York Daily

breach”, said LinkedIn. 

“Several weeks ago, additional 

names and passwords from the 

original data breach in 2012 were 

released and we took quick action

CHINA FIGHTER JET MADE ‘UNSAFE’ 

INTERCEPT OF AMERICAN SPY PLANE: US 

A Chinese fighter jet 

carried out an “unsafe” intercept 

of a US spy plane 

in international airspace 

over the East China Sea, 

two US defence officials 

said on Tuesday. 

The intercept involved a 

Chinese J-10 fighter plane 

and a US Air Force RC-135 

reconnaissance plane, the 

officials said. 

The officials, who requested 

anonymity, said 

the air crew deemed the 

encounter to be “unsafe” 

because of the “high rate 

of speed” at which the Chinese 

jet was travelling. 

In May, the Pentagon 

said that two Chinese 

fighter jets flew within 

50 feet (15 meters) of a 

US EP-3 aircraft over the 

South China Sea. 

The Pentagon determined 

that the May incident 

violated an agreement 

the two governments 

signed last year. 

Earlier this week, Secretary 

of State John Kerry 

said the United States 

would consider any Chinese 

establishment of an 

air defence zone over the 

South China Sea to be a 

“provocative and destabilising 

act.” 

US officials have expressed 

concern that an 

international court ruling 

expected in coming weeks 

on a case brought by the 

Philippines against China 

over its South China Sea 

claims could prompt Beijing 

to declare an air defence 

identification zone, 

or ADIZ, as it did over the 

East China Sea in 2013. 

China has claimed most 

of the South China Sea, 

through which $5 trillion 

in ship-borne trade passes 

every year. The Philippines, 

Vietnam, Malaysia, 

Taiwan and Brunei have 

overlapping claims. 

Washington has accused 

Beijing of militarising the 

South China Sea after creating 

artificial islands. Beijing, 

in turn, has criticized 

increased US naval patrols 

and exercises in Asia. 

During a conference in 

Singapore last week, Defense 

Secretary Ash Carter 

said the US approach to the 

Asia-Pacific remained “one

RISING SPORTS STAR 

Twenty20 in India, practicing 

her penalty shoot-out 

skills in between, she has 

planned well in advance. 

She did not make the starting 

team, but being at the 

tournament — even from 

the sidelines — was “very 

encouraging for me — it 

gave me new life, a new energy”. 

The 20-year-old grew up 

playing street cricket and 

football with other children 

in the magnificent Hunza 

Valley, their makeshift arenas 

ringed by some of the 

world’s tallest mountains 

in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan. 

The fact that she was a 

girl did not matter, she says: 

Baig belongs to the Ismaili 

sect of Shia Islam, who are 

followers of the Aga Khan 

— infamous in conservative 

Pakistan for their moderate 

views. That largely 

freed her from the restrictions 

placed on other, more 

conservative women in the 

Muslim country, where her 

gender is battling for greater 

freedom. 

From the streets, Baig 

began playing in community 

events and for local 

teams, and by 2010 she was 

leading the newly-formed 

Gilgit-Baltistan women’s 

team. 

Two years later, she was 

selected for Pakistan’s A 

side, and then as a reserve 

player for the 2013 World 

Cup. In 2015 she finally 

won her first international 

cap, playing for Pakistan 

against Bangladesh. 

But Baig says she had 

her moments of despair 

along the way. But while 

playing cricket in Islamabad 

in 2010, Baig tried out 

for the Gilgit-Baltistan football 

team on a whim after 

friends told her they needed 

players. 

She made into the team 

and, to her disbelief, in 

2014 was selected to play 

for Pakistan at the SAFF 

Championships in Bahrain. 

She has been a member of 

the starting 11 as a defender 

ever since, she says, unable 

to hide her excitement. 

Baig has had to fight harder 

for her cricket career. 

Unlike in men’s cricket, 

Pakistan’s women’s players 

are not contracted and 

are selected on a match 

by match basis from lower-ranked 

teams, such as 

the several hundred playing 

at the provincial level. 

That means that there were 

times when Baig was in — 

and times when she was

Leading bankers have 

welcomed the Reserve 

Bank’s accommodative policy 

and expressed the hope 

that RBI’s caution on inflation 

front is whittled by a 

good monsoon. 

Terming the policy outcome 

as expected, State 

Bank of India Chairperson 

Arundhati Bhattacharya 

said, “The tone of the policy 

is fairly balanced, pragmatic 

and continues to reflect 

accommodative cycle. 

Inflation trajectory seems 

broadly in line with RBI 

prognosis, though we are 

fairly hopeful of inflation 

possibly undershooting 

the 5 per cent target set for 

March 2017,” the SBI chief 

said.

sector ICICI Bank Chanda 

Kochhar said the continued 

commitment to an accommodative 

policy stance and 

the assurance of moving 

towards a neutral liquidity 

framework is positive, 

which should continue to 

support transmission of the 

RBI’s policy stance.

the RBI stands ready to 

mitigate any financial 

volatility resulting out of 

FCNR deposit maturities 

due later this year is very 

welcome. Overall, macroeconomic 

conditions are 

conducive for an improving 

growth trajectory as the 

various policy measures 

announced by the Government 

take effect.” 

Melwyn Rego of Bank 

of India welcomed the RBI 

measures to address the liquidity 

deficit in the system 

by promising to progressively 

lower the average 

ex-ante from 1 per cent of 

NDTL to a position closer 

to neutrality. 

“The move will help in 

quicker transmission of 

monetary policy initiatives, 

with MCLR framework 

in place, which will 

lend support to growth. It 

is comforting to note that 

liquidity is expected to be 

stable during the period of 

outflow of FCNR deposits,” 

Rego said.

expressed hope that with a 

food monsoon, RBI’s cautious 

stance on inflation 

would give way to accommodative 

actions in August. 

Abheek Barua, chief 

economist at HDFC Bank, 

termed the policy move on

this stance to firming 

commodity prices, ambiguity 

related to the implementation 

of the Seventh 

Pay Commission recommendations 

and uptick in 

inflation expectations driven 

by the upside surprise in 

the CPI reading in April. 

On the cautious stance 

on inflation, Barua said although 

there are marginal 

upside risks to the inflation 

target of 5 per cent “we believe 

the structural movement 

is towards a low-inflation 

economy. 

“We still see the possibility 

of another 25 bps cut 

in the policy rate this fiscal 

provided the monsoon is 

normal and evenly distributed, 

commodity prices do 

not rise and the global environment 

is benign,” Barua

3. Strength Training:

that running is 

through and through 

a cardio. They ignore 

the fact that strength 

training plays an important role as 

a part of any workout. This is quite 

wrong. Your leg muscles and the 

strength of your core help you in 

running better and longer. Strong 

muscles equal increased power and 

power leads to speed and stamina. 

4. Keep Running: 

Okay, so you are feeling like 

you are just about to pass out after 

running only for 5-10 minutes. 

So what? This does not 

mean you are going to 

quit so early! No, you 

got to keep running and 

keep moving. See, you 

know your body adjusts to almost 

everything provided we give them 

enough time. To improve your running 

stamina, you need to keep running 

and keep trying. But 

remember, it is a gradual 

process. Go by the 10% 

rule. Run as much and as 

long as you can at your 

preferred pace the first 

week and then if you get 

comfortable with that 

pace, you just increase 

your pace or distance by 

10%. It’s okay, if it takes 

more than a week. Take 

your time, but don’t you 

dare to quit! 

5. Interval Training: 

Interval training is another technique 

used by professionals to improve 

their stamina, endurance 

and speed. Interval training here 

involves alternating your running 

pace and style. For example, run 

into a sprint as fast as you can for 

30 seconds and then slow down to 

75% level of your capacity and run 

at that speed for another 2 minutes. 

Then you can again burst into a 

sprint. You can try running on the 

inclined path too. Experiment with 

your own plan or you can search 

the web for set routines2 

6. Music: 

This one is actually most effective. 

Your stride rate also matters 

when you are trying to improve 

your running stamina. Music helps 

you in getting into the flow and 

keep moving. We tend to match our 

steps to the beats. So make your 

workout playlist and load whatever 

kind of music that helps in moving 

your butt. That fills you with energy 

and gets you grooving. Trust me, 

you’ll find you ran an extra mile or 

two. 

7. Stretching: 

Do not go running without a good 

warm-up and never skip your cool 

down. Stretching is an almost inseparable 

part of the workout of the 

professional athletes. Stretch your 

muscles with nice dynamic stretching 

exercises to warm up your body. 

Do some static stretching exercises 

and some yoga to stretch your 

muscles after you complete your 

run. Stretching before running also 

loosens up the muscles and helps in 

better performance. 

8. Diet: 

Taking care of your diet is imperative 

if you want to improve your 

running stamina. You need to fuel 

the machine if you want it to work 

at its best. Make sure you put good 

lean proteins 

and

9. Rest:

training shoes and hydrating yourself 

properly. These things may not 

directly improve your stamina, but 

they do affect your running. If your 

shoes are not good, they can not 

only lead to injury, but also interfere 

with how much, how long and 

how well you are able to run. Similarly 

a dehydrated body won’t cover 

miles at a nice pace for you. 

So follow these tips and set your 

training routine according to these. 

They will surely help you to run 

around like a free and wild spirit
