Lokayukta Justice left 

for USA? 

According to rumours, the 

former Karnataka Lokayukta, 

Justice Bhaskar Rao, has left 

for USA. Such a rumour is 

being heard since the news 

of the governor gave permission 

to the investigating 

officers to file charge sheet 

against Justice Rao in the 

court came out. After resigning, 

Justice Bhaskar Rao had 

shifted his residence to Hyderabad. 

As he is not reachable 

his cellphone, there 

have been claims that he has 

left for USA. If this is true, the 

special investigating team 

will have to handle the problem 

of delivering court notice 

to him. 

Infosys makes a double 

digit profit for April-june 

quarter 

Indian IT major Infosys 

Ltd on Friday reported double-digit 

net profit and revenue 

for April-June quarter, 

but lowered annual revenue 

guidance in dollar value, 

resulting in its stock plunging 

on the bourses. Though 

consolidated net profit grew 

13.4 per cent year-on-year to 

Rs 3,436 crore and revenue 

16.9 per cent to Rs 16,782 

crore for the quarter under 

review, the IT company 

lowered dollar guidance for 

fiscal 2016-17 to 10-11.5 

per cent from 11.8-13.8 per 

cent projected in April due to 

currency volatility and headwinds. 

As a result, Infosys 

scrip of Rs.5 per share (face 

value) slipped to Rs 1,072.25 

at the end of Friday’s trading 

on BSE, losing Rs 103.60 or 

8.8 per cent from Thursday’s 

closing price of Rs 1,175.85 

and opening price of Rs 

1,186.35 though it touched a 

high of Rs 1,195 and a low of 

Rs 1,058.30 in intra-trading. 

MIT Prof Completes 

Bike Journey from 

Kanyakumari to Ladakh 

in 23 days 

Manipal Institute of Technology 

(MIT), Professor of 

computer applications, S 

Shameem, has completed 

the feat of undertaking 3,840 

km trip from Kanyakuari to 

Ladakh alone by bicycle. Shameem 

began his journey on 

May 23. In Himachal Pradesh, 

he had to suspend journey of 

320 km on account of vagaries 

of climate on June 18. 

This in effect curtailed his 

total trip by four days. He 

covered 3,520 km in 23 days. 

During his trip, Shameem 

covered 52 cities located 

in 53 districts of 13 states 

and union territories. He is 

thankful to Manipal University, 

government officials, private 

parties, and police departments 

of different states 

and staff of railways and Indian 

Army for extending help 

in completing his mission.

their recognition as they 

failed to fulfill admission 

norms under Right to Education 

(RTE) Act.

State Legislature. 

As the Assembly met, BJP 

and JD(S) members entered 

the well of the House and 

shouted slogans against the 

Siddaramaiah Government

dharna, which they had 

launched yesterday, rejecting 

the judicial probe announced 

by the Chief Minister 

during his reply to the 

debate on the issue. 

Refusing to give in to 

the BJP’s demand for a CBI 

probe, Siddaramaiah had 

said the case would be 

probed by a judicial commission 

headed by a retired 

High Court judge, even 

while dismissing the call for 

George’s resignation, saying 

there was not even an iota of 

evidence against him. 

Shettar alleged that honest 

officials had no security 

under the Congress government 

and demanded to 

know why Siddaramaiah 

was showing “special affection” 

towards George. 

Ganapathy (51) was 

found hanging from a ceiling 

fan in a room at a lodge in 

Madikeri on July 7, prior to 

which he gave an interview 

to a local TV channel, saying 

the minister and A M Prasad 

(IG—Intelligence) and Pranab 

Mohanty (IGP—Lokayukta) 

would be responsible

Intervening as opposition 

continued its protest, Law 

Minister T B Jayachandra 

said a judicial inquiry has 

been ordered and one has to 

wait for its findings. As the 

ruckus continued, Speaker 

K B Koliwad adjourned the 

house for some time. 

The Karnataka Legislative 

Council was also adjourned 

till tomorrow, following 

a similar protest and 

dharna by the Opposition 

BJP and JD(S).

TEMPLE AUTHORITIES URGE 

VISITORS TO FOLLOW DRESS CODE

code’ for temple visitors. 

Though the temple authorities 

say it is not compulsory, 

the ‘A’ grade temple 

under the Endowment 

Department has displayed 

a notice on its premises 

asking devotees to follow 

a ‘dress code’, but without 

defining it. 

P. Ramanath Hegde, 

managing trustee of the 

temple management committee, 

said that there 

was no compulsion for 

devotees to wear a certain 

dress, but the temple 

expected them to cover 

themselves fully. “However, 

if anybody comes in a 

short dress, he or she will 

not be sent out,” he said,

displaying the board was to 

make devotees follow the 

code “voluntarily”.

MASKED MAN THROWS PETROL 

BOMB AT CHURCH 

The CCTV footage of the 

incident shows that since 

the masked man could not 

open the main gate and the 

small gate, he ended up 

hurling the petrol bomb inside 

the premises. 

Anoka, the sexton, came 

out of his house, which is 

close by, when he heard a 

sound. He put off the fire, 

collecting water from a tap 

nearby. Three others residing 

on the premises helped 

him bring the blaze under 

control. As news spread,

In the last two years, 

thieves have burgled a 

house four times. According 

to the sources, retired 

chief administrative officer 

of Legal Services Authority 

P Narayanan’s house which 

is situated near Capitanio 

was burgled for the fourth 

time on Thursday. He claims 

to have lodged complaint 

every time. Surprisingly, 

no action has been taken 

till now. This time, Fed up 

with the police’ indifferent 

attitude, P Narayana wrote 

a letter to CM Siddaramaiah 

to instruct the police to act 

upon the complaint. In his 

letter, he also sought a compensation 

of Rs 8 lakh for 

the loss he suffered in all 

the four burglaries. 

It is learnt, earlier 

Narayanan had complained 

to Mangaluru Rural police 

regarding the serial theft 

cases at his residence. 

P Narayana who hails 

from Kasargod has settled 

in Capitanio for many 

years. He along with his 

family had gone to Kasargod 

to meet his ailing 

mother-in-law. When they 

returned, the family came 

to know about the robbery. 

The thieves have decamped 

with gold and cash. 

Unfortunately, the CCTV 

that was installed was not

ENDS LIFE AT 

PATERNAL HOME 

A recently married woman 

chose to end her life by hanging 

herself at her paternal house at 

Housing Board Colony in Mandya 

on Thursday. Likhita (24) 

was married to Shashank, a 

resident of Vidyaranyapuram 

just three months ago. She was 

staying with the parents as 

part of the ‘Ashada Masa’ custom. 

On the day of the incident, 

Likhita did not open her room 

till noon. Family members who 

grew suspicious found her 

hanging herself to the ceiling 

fan in the room. Likhita was 

an engineering graduate and 

her husband, Shahank is a software 

engineer. The reason for 

such extreme step is yet to be 

known. 

ROOF OF JMFC COURT 

CRASHES 

The roof of the second additional 

JMFC court hall located 

in the premises of the district 

and session’s court at Belagavi 

crashed in the early hours on 

Thursday. 

The wall of the building appeared 

to be fine but the RCC 

roof where water had accumulated 

due to heavy rain since 

the last some days. The wall 

had absorbed moisture. Luckily 

the court was not in session 

when the incident happened. 

It has been 40 years since this 

court hall was built. As soon as 

the information was received, 

district and sessions judge ordered 

suspension of proceedings 

in second additional JMFC 

court. It is informed that the 

court will function in seventh 

additional court the hall of the. 

CHAIN SNATCHED 

FROM AN ELDERLY 

WOMEN 

A 58-year-old Kamalamma 

lost her 60 gram gold chain at 

Gokulam Mysuru. Two men on 

the bike approached her on the 

pretext of asking address. The 

pillion rider tried to snatch 

chain from her neck. Kamalamma 

who in her reflex action, 

latch on to her chain and part 

of it remained in her hand as 

the chain split into two parts. 

She immediately alerted the 

passersby. Bikers managed to 

escape before the public came 

to her rescue. A case has been 

registered at VV Puram police 

station and investigation is in 

progress. It may be recalled 

that few cops were suspended 

recently for dereliction of duty 

as Mysuru witnessed series of 

chain snatching incidents in 

the recent past. 

SSLC SUPPLEMENTARY 

EXAMINATION RESULTS 

OUT 

Result of the supplementary 

SSLC examination conducted 

during June this year 

was announced on Thursday. 

Out of 1, 75,187 students who 

appeared for the examination, 

45,657 comprising mere 26.07 

percent among them, could 

clear the examinations. The 

students can apply for recounting 

of marks and xerox copies 

of answer sheets between July 

15 and 25. They can apply for 

revaluation of answer sheets 

within seven days of the receipt 

of xerox copies. For recounting 

marks, fee of Rs. 150 

per subject has been fixed. For 

xerox copies, Rs. 300 has to 

be remitted, while Rs. 700 has 

been fixed for revaluation, said

The Criminal Investigation 

Department (CID), 

which is investigating 

the abetment (of his suicide) 

case under Section 

306 of the Indian Penal 

Code (IPC) is trying to 

find out whether the 

deceased officer was 

indeed involved in the 

heinous crime of kidnap 

and ransom or there was 

someone else behind 

this. The chain of events 

is seemingly suspicious 

because Handibag was 

never before accused of 

corruption. Was he a victim 

of the huge gambling 

mafia in Chikmagaluru, 

is for the CID to investigate. 

But what is reportedly 

emerging is that he 

couldn’t withstand the 

media trial and was unable 

to see his image being 

tarnished in public.” 

According to reports, 

the CID sleuths who are 

probing the case have 

found several discrepancies 

in the allegations 

made by Tejas, who had 

accused Handibag of 

kidnapping him and releasing 

him after he was 

reportedly paid a ransom 

of Rs 10 lakh. 

CCTV CAMERAS TO BE INSTALLED 

AT KSRTC BUS STATIONS 

The Karnataka State 

Road Transport Corporation 

(KSRTC) has 

initiated the process of 

installing closed-circuit 

television (CCTV) cameras 

in all its depots and 

bus stations across the 

State. The corporation 

has formed a committee 

of senior officers to finalise 

the specifications 

It has been reported 

that Congress national 

president, Sonia Gandhi, 

has conveyed her decision 

vesting discretionary 

power with Karnataka 

Chief Minister (CM), 

Siddaramaiah, on the issue 

of dropping of minister, 

K J George, relating 

to the suicide of Deputy 

Superintendent of Police, 

M K Ganapati. 

George, it is said, is 

also close to party’s national 

leadership. The 

high command has been

and Vigilance (KSRTC),

the committee’s report, 

the KSRTC board will call 

for the tender and invite 

quotations,” Reddy

on Thursday ordered issue

government on an appeal 

filed against a single-judge 

bench’s verdict upholding

mayor of the Bruhat Bangalore 

Mahanagara Palike. 

The Division Bench comprising 

Chief Justice Subhro 

Kamal Mukherjee and Justice 

Ravi Malimath passed 

the order on an appeal 

filed by Manjunath Raju, a 

BJP candidate who was defeated 

in the elections conducted 

on September 11, 

2015.The notice is initially 

on the delay in filling the 

appeal against the November 

27, 2015 verdict of the 

single-judge bench. The Division 

Bench also ordered 

issuing notices to Mayor 

B.N Manjunath Reddy and 

Deputy Mayor Hemalatha 

Gopalaiah. 

BILL TO PREVENT OPENING OF OPEN 

UNIVERSITY OUTSIDE KARNATAKA 

The State Legislative Assembly 

amended the Karnataka 

State Open University 

(Amendment) Bill, 2016, 

on Thursday, to prevent the 

university from opening of 

centres outside Karnataka. 

The Bill removed the provisions 

regarding opening 

of centres outside the State 

by the University as it contradicted 

the instructions 

issued by the University 

Grants Commission regarding 

jurisdiction of university 

and the provisions of 

Article 245 of the Constitution, 

which was reiterated 

by the Supreme Court in the

NARESH SHENOY NOT WILLING TO 

UNDERGO NARCO TEST 

In a recent development, 

Naresh Shenoy, the prime 

accused in RTI activist 

Vinayaka Balilga’s murder 

has reportedly not given 

his consent for undergoing 

narco analysis. 

As per norms, narco 

analysis could be performed 

only with consent 

and cannot be forced on an 

individual. There is no provision 

to allow the accused 

to be subjected to this test 

without his consent. 

The investigators had 

filed an application before 

the court seeking permission 

to conduct narco analysis, 

polygraph and brain 

mapping tests on Naresh 

Shenoy. 

The officials probing 

the murder case had filed 

application in the court 

to subject Shenoy to Narco-analysis 

procedures so 

that crucial details pertaining 

to case could be procured. 

However, since the 

accused has refused to face 

the test, the possibilities of 

the investigating officers 

getting an upper hand are 

rather bleak. 

It has transpired that in 

a similar case in the city, 

the concerned had agreed 

to undergo narco analysis 

in connection with double 

murder case at Panjimogaru. 

Husband and brother 

of the deceased woman had 

offered themselves to be 

subjected to these procedures, 

but they have not so 

far been put through these 

tests, it is learnt. 

Vinayak Baliga was murdered 

on the morning of 

March 21 this year. Six persons 

were earlier arrested 

in connection to the case. 

The main conspirator and 

prime accused Naresh Shenoy 

was arrested on June 

26, putting an end to his 

three month long run. 

OVER 2000 VEHICLES CHECKED AND 134 

DRIVERS BOOKED AT CUBBON PARK 

To curb pollution, 

over 2,000 vehicles were 

checked and 134 drivers 

booked at Cubbon Park 

on Thursday. Several officials 

of the Karnataka State 

Pollution Control Board 

(KSPCB) on Thursday inspected 

buildings within 

Cubbon Park, the city’s biggest 

lung space, to ensure 

that pollution control measures 

were adequately employed. 

“Open burning of 

solid waste was seen on the 

premises of Bal Bhavan and 

brought to the attention of 

its chairperson Bhavana. 

Ms. Bhavanna said that immediate 

action would be 

taken to ensure segregation 

of solid waste,” a Karnataka 

State Pollution Control 

Board said to media. 

During a joint drive, the 

transport department and 

the Karnataka State Pollution 

Control Board (KSP- 

CB) officials found that 

some vehicles were not 

just highly polluting but 

also had invalid emission 

test certificates. According 

to KSPCB chairman Lakshman, 

faulty emission testing 

was taking place in the 

petrol pump adjacent to the 

Cubbon Park police station.

emission certificates 

are obtained from only authorized 

testing centres. 

Canteen dumping waste 

A Karnataka State Tourism 

Development Corporation 

(KSTDC) canteen, 

which was discharging 

plastic straws and kitchen 

waste into drains, was 

asked to stop immediately. 

Emission centres 

Vehicular emission testing 

centres in fuel stations 

were also part of the inspection 

on Thursday. 

It was found that there 

were only three petrol vehicles 

that had failed checks 

at a particular centre while 

the number of vehicles 

caught during enforcement 

drives was higher. 

In order to keep a check 

on the emission centres, 

KSPCB will carry out random 

checks on these 

centres in the future, Mr. 

Lakshman said.

17 School Students Injured 

in Road Mishap 

Seventeen students were 

injured, 10 of them seriously, 

when their school bus was hit 

by a pick-up van at Madarihat 

in Alipurduar on Friday. A

morning, a police official said. 

Ten students were seriously 

injured. They were admitted 

to the Alipurduar district hospital. 

The driver of the pick-up 

van fled with the vehicle, he

Three persons, including an 

SSB jawan, were killed when 

their bike was hit by a truck 

near Sadatpur village in Ganjipur 

area, police said on Friday.

killed on the spot. Police said

injured after a car in West 

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata

NHRC Seeks Report from

Condemning the attack, 

President Mukherjee said, 

“India stands shoulder to 

shoulder with the people 

and Government of France.” 

“I am shocked to hear 

about the terrorist attack 

on an innocent crowd of 

people gathered to celebrate 

the Bastille Day in 

Nice, France. I strongly 

condemn the perpetrators 

of the terrorist attack in 

France,” President Mukherjee

The President said

HARDIK PATEL RELEASED AFTER NINE MONTHS

welcome by his supporters. 

The district administration, 

meanwhile, has imposed

Criminal Procedure Code 

(CrPC) in the region to 

ensure that no untoward 

incident takes place in the 

wake of his release. 

Patel was granted bail on 

Friday last by the Gujarat 

High Court in both sedition 

cases against him. 

However, one of the conditions 

of the bail was that 

he would not be permitted 

to enter Gujarat for the next 

six months. The other condition 

was that he would 

have to file an undertaking. 

Patel had been booked 

with sedition charges on 

October 19 over his provocative 

remarks where he 

had asked his supporters 

to kill policemen rather 

than commit suicide for the 

cause of reservation. 

Patel was arrested and 

imprisoned in a jail in Surat 

after he led a huge revolt 

of the Patidar community

down at least 80 people in

fireworks display.

PAKISTAN MISUSING US FUND TO PROMOTE 

TERRORISM, REVEALS EX-AFGHAN SPY 

A former Afghanistan 

spy has disclosed classified 

documents, which reveal 

that the money provided by 

the United States Government 

to the Pakistan military 

for fighting terrorism 

is being spent by the country’s 

intelligence agency, 

ISI, for promoting and supporting 

terrorism. 

According to documents 

released by Rahmatullah 

Nabil, former chief of 

Afghan Spy Agency, the 

National Directorate of Security 

(NDS), Islamabad 

“strikes only those insurgents 

who threaten its interests”. 

According to the sources, 

Nabil has claimed that the 

ISI systematically supports 

terrorist groups, while 

pointing out that Pakistan 

has for long been funding 

terrorist organisations, 

particularly the Haqqani 

network. 

According to one of the 

documents leaked by Nabil, 

an “official letter dated July 

2014 from the central office 

of the ISI in Islamabad 

was sent to MI-422 office 

in Swaba and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 

in which it directed 

the office to thank that 

the people that succeeded 

in plotting the attack on 

Kabul Airport (now Hamid 

Karzai International Airport) 

and gave 2.5 million 

Pakistani rupees to every 

one of the following: Haji 

Khalil Haqqani, Haji Hakim 

Woluswal, Qari Zahir Shah 

and Mawlawi Hakim. Moreover, 

the office was directed 

to donate 1.5 million Pakistani 

rupees to the families 

of those that were involved 

in the attack.” 

Reportedly, insurgents 

had attacked the Kabul International 

Airport a day 

before this letter was issued. 

According to another 

document, the ISI 945 office 

in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 

an official note dated April 

6, 2015 to the central office 

in Islamabad wrote, 

“Officials of 945 office, in a 

meeting with Toryalai, the 

head of the network and his 

co-fighters on April 5, 2015, 

were tasked to kidnapped 

and kill Afghanistan’s Shia 

leaders in Herat, Kabul and 

Farah. In addition, they 

gave 2 million Pakistani 

rupees to the participant in 

that meeting.” 

In the note, it was mentioned 

that 23 people from 

Toryalai’s group, who were 

busy with military training 

in Cherat, had completed 

their training. 

According to another 

document from regional 

office in Peshawar to central 

command center in 

Rawalpindi, a Pakistani 

colonel wrote, “I want to 

inform you that a meeting 

was held between Hafiz Gul 

Bahaduri of Hafiz Gul Bahadur 

Group with the commander 

of Afghan Taliban 

Maulavi Hamdullah. The 

main purpose of the meeting 

was to provide rented 

houses to leaders of Afghan 

Taliban in Hayat Abad and 

Tahkal of Peshawar who 

have been deployed from 

remote regions of Miran 

Shah. In addition, armored 

vehicles and guards should 

be provided to secure their 

lives and activities.” 

According to Nabil, thousands 

of Madrasas in Pakistan 

are only involved in 

brain-washing, terrorism

rights violations of the

constructed against their 

will. 

“The grievances of the 

local Baloch community 

were being completely 

ignored, and anything interpreted 

as dissent, was 

being violently crushed,” 

said Czarnecki at an event 

on the ‘China-Pakistan Economic 

and Defence Cooperation, 

Global and Regional 

Impact’, in the US Congress 

on Thursday, source said. 

Along with Czarnecki, 

other speakers at the event 

included Dr. Walid Phares, 

Co-Secretary General of the 

Transatlantic Parliamentary

In his remarks about the 

CPEC, Czarnecki highlighted

for the safety of the 

Chinese personnel and infrastructure, 

it had resulting 

in a situation where the 

human rights of the local 

population were being frequently 

violated. 

Moreover, the Pakistani 

Army was engaged in 

forceful evacuation of people 

from their traditional 

homesteads and farmlands 

in several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan 

and Balochistan, 

so as to make land 

available for the CPEC, he 

added. 

He also highlighted that 

the failure of the international 

community to intervene 

and check atrocities 

by the Pakistan army in 

the areas proposed for the 

CPEC, would result in the 

escalation of human rights 

violations of innocent civilians 

in Pakistan. 

Echoing similar sentiments, 

Casaca mentioned 

that while the CPEC was a 

good initiative, it was going 

through disputed territory 

and was being completely 

controlled by the Pakistan 

army with no local governance 

participation being 

allowed. 

Local inhabitants in the 

areas of Gilgit Baltistan and 

Baluchistan were being 

forcefully cleared for the 

project, rendering people 

homeless and depriving 

them of their sources of 

livelihood. 

He also referred to the 

aggressive Chinese actions 

in the South China Sea, and 

lamented that while the US, 

along with its allies, was 

trying to maintain freedom 

of navigation in the area, 

Pakistan, the foremost beneficiary 

of US largesse over 

the years, was now supporting 

the Chinese regime. 

The CPEC project comprises 

a network of railways, 

roads and pipelines 

that would connect Pakistan’s 

port city of Gwadar 

in the province of Balochistan,

The Pakistan Cricket 

Board (PCB) has bought 

four bulletproof buses in 

its effort to try and convince 

other international 

teams to shed their 

security apprehensions 

and visit the country. 

Pakistan has largely 

been shunned by teams 

since 2009 when gunmen 

attacked a bus carrying 

Sri Lankan cricketers, 

injuring six players 

and killing six security 

personnel and two civilians. 

The incident has 

forced Pakistan to play 

their ‘home’ matches at 

the United Arab Emirates 

and the country has 

since remained starved 

of international cricket 

at home, barring Zimbabwe’s 

limited-overs tour 

in 2015. 

“We have bought 

these four Coaster buses 

as part of our efforts 

to revive international 

cricket in the country,” 

said a PCB spokesman. 

“There will be high expectations 

from teams 

willing to visit Pakistan 

and we want to ensure 

that we provide them 

with the best possible 

arrangements. 

“Having these bulletproof 

vehicles would 

play a major part in convincing

The spokesman said 

PCB wanted to host the

Governor Duvvuri Subbarao 

has credited his 

successor Raghuram Rajan’s 

“formidable reputation” 

for bringing sanity 

to the forex market when 

the rupee had lost nearly 

25 per cent amid ‘taper 

tantrums’ in the summer 

of 2013. 

He has also blamed 

then then Finance Minister 

P Chidambaram’s 

reluctance to accept that 

the rupee was bleeding 

more because of domestic 

issues and less due to 

external factors like the 

taper tantrums - a reference 

to the US Fed’s 

gradual withdrawal of 

stimulus measures for 

the American economy 

following the global financial 

crisis of 2008. 

“I had several conversations 

with Chidambaram 

on this, but found 

him reluctant to face up 

to this inconvenient truth. 

He is too intelligent not to 

have seen the point; I suspect 

he found it politically 

convenient to point to an 

external scapegoat rather 

than call attention to domestic 

structural factors,” 

Subbarao, the bureaucrat-turned 

central banker, 

has written in a book. 

He has also blamed Chidambaram 

who “wholeheartedly 

supported his 

appointment” to the Mint 

Road for undermining 

the autonomy of RBI and 

putting pressure on him 

to cut interest rates. 

WORKING TO HAVE A DEEMED 

UNIVERSITY STATUS FOR FDDI: GOVT 

Government is working 

on granting deemed university 

status to Footwear 

Design and Development 

Institute (FDDI) whose students 

have been demanding 

they be awarded degrees 

instead of diplomas. 

Commerce and Industry 

Minister Nirmala Sitharaman 

said talks are on with 

Human Resource Development 

Ministry and advice 

has been sought from 

Prime Minister’s Office on 

the issue. 

“I want this issue to get a 

fair solution, student should 

not be put to difficulties, but 

this is an inherited problem... 

we are working to 

have a deemed university 

status for them,” she told 

the media. 

The minister said the 

rules governing the status 

and “everything about who 

can qualify for deemed university 

is being looked into 

by HRD ministry. They are 

guiding us... so work is happening”. 

Keen to resolve the issue, 

Sitharaman had conducted 

about a dozen consultation 

meetings with the concerned 

ministries, departments, 

students and their 

parents. 

Around 200 students of 

FDDI in Noida went on a 

rampage last month, ransacking 

the premises and 

damaging two buses, in 

protest against alleged failure 

of the institute to give 

them degrees, instead of 

diplomas. 

FDDI had signed an 

MoU with Mewar University 

in 2012 for awarding 

degrees. But last year, UGC 

had termed the MoU as illegal, 

triggering protests by 

students. 

From 2012 to 2014, 

around 3,609 students had 

taken admission in the institute. 

Sitharaman had said the 

matter is an “issue in legacy. 

We inherited something 

which was not of our making.” 

The issue cropped up 

after the University Grants 

Commission (UGC) declared 

that Mewar University 

cannot award degrees to 

FDDI students. 

INFOSYS RELAUNCHES ESOPS TO 

REIN IN ATTRITION 

Infosys has relaunched 

its employee stock option 

plan (ESOP) for junior to 

middle level management 

staff as it looks to rein in 

rising attrition that stood at 

21% in the April-June 2016 

quarter. 

However, the company 

is not “unduly concerned” 

about the jump in attrition, 

which read 17.3% in the 

March quarter and 19.2% 

in the year-ago period. 

“Today, we relaunched 

our ESOP programme after 

a gap of 10-years plus, after 

about 13 years. We are 

rewarding about 7,500 of 

our employees from junior 

to middle level management 

with restricted stock 

options and we will extend 

it to middle management 

to senior leaders and title 

holders subsequently,” Infosys 

Chief Operating Officer 

U B Pravin Rao said. 

He added that the company 

continues to focus on 

reskilling employees and 

has also revamped its leadership 

development programmes. 

ESOPs allow employees 

to own equity in the company, 

which is seen as a morale 

booster for them. 

Infosys added 13,268 

(gross) and 3,006 (net) 

people in the said quarter, 

taking its headcount to 1, 

97,050 at the end of June 

2016. 

Elaborating on the higher 

rate of attrition, Rao said 

one of the reasons is “seasonality 

because typically 

in Q1, we have higher exits 

due to higher studies”. 

He added that while the 

attrition levels have shot up, 

Infosys has been able to retain 

“high performers”. 

“We are really encouraged, 

we also track high 

performers’ attrition, which 

has come down. Earlier last 

quarter, it was 13.4% and 

this quarter, it has come 

down to 11.2%, so we are 

encouraged by that,” he 

said. 

Rao said Infosys will 

“watch out”, but at this 

stage, it is “not unduly concerned” 

and continues to 

focus on employee experience 

and engagement. 

This year, Infosys has given 

wage hikes of 6-12% to 

its employees in India and 

about 2% to onsite workers, 

apart from offering equity 

to incentivise top performers. 

On the impact of the 

appointment of Raghuram 

Rajan as the new 

Governor on stabilising 

the rupee, Subbarao says 

“the scheduled leadership 

change at the Reserve 

Bank and the formidable

senior government official 

said. 

“The biggest challenge 

is cost and all of us would 

have to work on it so that 

people can afford and easily 

adopt this new technology. 

To make it cheaper, 

we would have to work for 

Make-in-India and (that) 

is the solution for making 

electric vehicle affordable,” 

said Girish Shankar, Secretary,

FAME India - Faster 

Adoption and Manufacturing 

of Hybrid and Electric 

vehicles in India - is part 

of the National Electric 

Mobility Mission Plan. The 

scheme envisages Rs 795 

crore support in the first 

two fiscals that started last 

year. 

According to Shankar, 

globally, hybrid models 

are being accepted and 

consumers are now able 

to afford it. In Europe, two 

lakh hybrid vehicles are 

self-sustainable without 

any government’s support. 

He cited China as a good 

example of “shifting very 

fast to hybrid and now 

moving towards electric 

mobility”. “It’s a very good 

example for us to follow,” 

he said. 

In Japan, there are more 

charging stations than petrol 

pumps, Shankar added. 

“Apart from technology, 

we should take examples 

from other countries, and 

let us leapfrog and take 

advantage of available 

technology and guidelines 

from other experiences 

where we can move much 

faster than others,” he

MARIAH CAREY’S EX-NICK 

CANNON LINKED TO TLC’S CHILLI 

Looks like Mariah Carey’s 

former husband and 

rapper Nick Cannon has 

decided to move on and 

it’s with TLC star Rozondo 

‘Chilli’ Thomas. 

According to sources, 

the two have been “hanging 

out on the low” and are 

bonded over their passion 

for music,” 

“They have been friends 

for some time and just recently 

this summer they 

have been hanging out 

romantically,” the source 

added. 

The sources further reveals, 

“Chilli is a very mature 

woman that’s been 

around the music industry 

for some time and gets 

it, Nick has always had a 

crush on her growing up. 

He thinks she is beautiful.” 

Pointing out at the 

35-year-old rapper, 

known for his attraction 

for older women, the report 

also says the two 

have no clues of a serious 

relation and it’s only at the 

fling stage. 

“They are not an exclusive 

couple at this time 

just causally hanging out 

and seeing where things 

go,” said the source. 

Meanwhile, Cannon 

has also filed for a divorce 

from Carey in 2015. 

YAMI DODGES ‘DISGUSTING’ QUESTIONS 

ON SHWETA’S ‘HOME-BREAKER’ REMARK 

Though Pulkit Samrat’s 

estranged wife sweta Rohira 

branded her as a “home 

breaker,” Yami Gautam preferred 

maintaining silence 

over this much-controversial 

tiff between the trio. 

According to Pinkvilla, 

when the ‘Sanam Re’ actress 

was recently quizzed on this 

allegation, she dodged the 

question as it was “disgusting.” 

“I will tell you what. We are 

here for a beautiful occasion. 

Why do you ask a disgusting 

question, I will not answer 

that. Don’t ask me these disgusting 

questions and as long 

as you don’t change your 

question, I won’t change my 

answer,” she said at an event, 

where she walked the ramp 

for designer Anita Dongre. 

For the unversed, Pulkit 

recently stated that Yami was 

not the cause for the break up 

between him and his wife. 

To this, Shweta differed 

and maintained, “She (Yami 

Gupta) is a home-breaker 

there is no doubt about 

that. I am not saying people 

don’t fall out of love. But you 

should do it in a dignified way 

without putting the blame on 

me. If I really had to put out 

things, I was your hidden 

wife for 5 years, and then I 

would have put a lot out. You 

are doing everything, you are 

talking about it and then you 

are saying I want to put the 

other woman down. How is 

that?” 

With this, she added that 

though not legally, she is energetically 

divorced and does 

not want to be called “estranged 

wife” anymore. 

“We may not have had a 

legal divorce but after Pulkit 

stooped down to whatever 

level, energetically I am divorced. 

I am no more Pulkit’s 

wife or estranged wife. I want 

to request everyone to please 

stop calling me an estranged 

wife of Pulkit Samrat and 

give me a closure, I will be 

more than happy when that 

happens,” she said. 

Though she alleged Yami 

to be a “home breaker,” she 

even thanked her for bringing 

out the ‘Junooniyat’ actor’s 

“true colour.” 

This came after Pulkit had 

accused Shweta of using her 

miscarriage incident to gain 

sympathy.
