BENGALURU WILL GET ITS SECOND 

MEDICAL COLLEGE SOON 

Bengaluru will get its 

second medical college 

in Bowring and Lady 

Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar 

by 2018 in the 

same campus. 

The new budget has 

been estimated for about 

Rs. 218 crore. Thus the 

Bowring and Lady Curzon 

Medical College will 

add 150 MBBS seats to 

the government quota. 

The medical education 

department has 

given its go-ahead. Final 

approval is awaited from 

the government to float 

the tender and clear the 

revised estimate.

“The 

building will 

come up on 

the Bowring 

hospital premises as a 

10-acre plot is enough 

as per Medical Council of 

India guidelines.” 

The project includes 

establishing a nursing 

college with 17 paramedical 

courses. The 

government aims at having 

one medical college 

in each district. 

In 2016- 

17, about 450 

more seats 

will be added 

through 

government 

medical colleges 

that 

have come up 

at Madikeri, Karwar and 

Chamarajanagar. 

The college is known 

for its teachings and other 

practical experiments. 

Dr KS Manjunath, special 

officer, Bowring and 

Lady Curzon Hospital, 

said the college would 

stand out for its teaching. 

He also said that the 

medical colleges in so 

many places only manufactured 

doctors. They 

did not impart skills and 

charecters in them. They 

wanted to repair that 

gap in their college. 

It will also focus on 

family medicine, a specialty 

relating to comprehensive 

healthcare 

for people of all ages. 

“We want to revive the 

concept of family physicians, 

who can detect 

many conditions before 

they get complicated,”

precautionary measure 

the BMRCL officials had 

to switch of the power 

on the track. The trains 

were stopped wherever

15 minutes. 

The BMRCL has collected

the moment, a complaint 

has not yet been registered,

May, the city is getting 

its green back. Bengaluru 

met the high temperature 

of 39 degree during 

this summer. People saw 

the trees and the plants 

getting dried up in the 

neighbourhood and on 

the parks. 

But getting a resanable 

amount of rain for 

the past one and half 

month the city is getting 

its green back. The 

citizens groups in Indiranagar, 

Whitefield, 

Somasundarapalya and 

HSR Layout are getting 

together to protect existing 

trees and plant new 

ones.

months, around 300

many people who realised 

that the big, shady 

trees in the neighbourhood 

were quickly disappearing,”

a group which recently 

organised a tree-planting 

drive. “Around 150 

saplings were planted 

around two weeks ago. 

They are thriving. Most 

people are co-operative, 

but there are many who 

try to get rid of trees to

the victim’s father Purushottam 

said. 

He said one of the lady 

doctors at the hospital 

told him that one of the 

fingers of the child needed 

to be operated, while 

plastic surgery was required 

for the other finger. 

“The hospital authorities 

demanded Rs. 

60,000 and said the surgery 

needs to be done in 

six hours. I didn’t think 

much about the money 

and deposited Rs. 25, 

000. Before the surgery, 

my son was fine and was 

playing games,’ he added. 

Purushottam said after 

few hours of the surgery, 

the doctor told him

that it was not uncommon

SANJEEV TEACHES HOW TO KEEP 

SNAKES AWAY FROM ENTERING HOME

gets 30 to 40 calls 

every day from different 

areas in the city. Mostly, 

he lives in Whitefield.

Rising organized a workshop 

on what to do when 

they find a snake in their 

house. There were a 

huge crowd turned up 

for the answer because 

most of them have come 

across this incident. 

BBMP snake expert Sanjeev 

addressed the gathering 

about three hour 

long session on Saturday. 

Sanjeev did send the 

crowed with the satisfactory 

answer. He has 

11 years of experience 

in the field. 

“Primarily, block the 

entry points for snakes, 

such as hanging branches, 

pipes and open garbage 

bins. Denying food 

and shelter are the subsequent 

steps. Which 

means manage garbage 

in a way that reduces 

rats in the house,” he 

said. 

Pointing out that only 

3% of the population 

would think about rescuing 

the snake and not 

whack it the moment it 

is spotted in the house, 

he said that there needed 

to be personal practices 

in one’s lifestyle to 

co-exist with snakes.

Sanjeev attributed 

urbanization

city. He said, “How far 

can we push them away

as rats are not kept at 

bay. He reasoned that 

while residents can resort 

to measures to curb 

snakes from entering 

their homes, they cannot 

claim their gardens to be 

their living space.

Scripbox Plans to 

Reach 1,000 cities 

Scripbox, an online investment 

platform started in Bengaluru 

in 2012, wants to expand 

its presence by reaching 

out to at least 1,000 cities in 

the future. 

Like any other online investment 

platform Scripbox 

too want to extend its presence 

to 1, 000 cities in the near future.

‘Spotter’ is the android app 

that helps people to file civic 

complaints to the Bangalore 

Political Action Committee 

(BPAC). The app is developed 

for the public use only. 

The app integrates the Bruhat 

Bengaluru Mahanagara- 

Palike (BBMP), the Bangalore 

Water Supply and Sewerage 

Board (BWSSB) and Bescom. 

Complaints lodged on ‘Spotter’ 

will automatically reach 

the department concerned and 

thence to the engineer concerned. 

People can easily register 

complains through the app 

without even reaching the respected 

office. The app is currently 

available for Android 

and can be downloaded from 

Google Play. Efforts are afoot 

to make it available for iPhones 

and Windows phones. 

The Geographical Information 

System-based application 

has different categories to 

lodge complaints such as garbage, 

health, construction, potholes, 

drainage, footpath, animal 

control, water supply and 

electricity. People can upload 

their civic problems along with 

pictures, which will reach the 

designated officer in any of the

LOKAYUKTA SEARCHES 10 AD FIRMS 

The fight against illegal 

hoardings has got a shot in 

the arm: the Lokayukta police 

on Saturday conducted 

searches on the office premises 

of 10 Ad firms. 

A senior Lokayukta police 

official said the searches 

yielded documents allegedly 

indicating the ad agencies 

conniving with Bruhat Bengaluru 

MahanagaraPalike 

(BBMP) officials to put up 

illegal hoardings as well as 

multiple hoardings with a 

single licence. “In at least five 

firms, we recovered accounts 

and other details pointing 

towards the payments made 

to BBMP officials,” the official 

said, adding that searches on 

other agencies would follow. 

An FIR on illegal hoardings 

was filed a year ago, but 

the case was taken up only 

recently after the High Court 

asked the Lokayukta police to 

probe all pending cases. 

A Lokyayukta official said 

the firms had been selected 

based on information received 

from BBMP Revenue 

officers and the eight reports 

by the former Assistant Commissioner, 

Advertisements, 

K. Mathai, who was recently 

transferred.

Europe’s Ariane 5 rocket 

launcher successfully sent 

two telecoms satellites, one 

for a US-based communications 

service provider and 

one for an Indonesian bank, 

into space. 

They were launched from 

Kourou, in French Guiana, at 

6:38 PM yesterday, according 

to launch company Arianespace. 

It was the third launch of 

the year, placing into orbit 

the Echo Star XVIII for satellite 

service provider Dish 

Network, and BRIsat for 

Rakyat Indonesia bank. 

Twenty-nine minutes after 

the launch, the satellite 

Echo Star XVIII entered orbit. 

The satellite is designed to 

provide direct broadcasting 

services for 15 years to the 

continental US, Alaska and 

Hawaii for Dish Network. 

Forty-two minutes after 

blast off, the satellite BRIsat 

reached its orbit. 

It is the first telecommunications 

satellite dedicated to 

a financial institution, Bank

including the sentencing 

of 81-year-old optician 

Abdul Shukoor, 

under Pakistan’s anti-blasphemy 

law for 

possession of innocuous 

Ahmadi literature 

clearly shows that governments 

National Action 

Plan (NAP) which 

was passed following 

the ghastly December 

2014 Taliban attack on 

132 schoolchildren, has 

been as counter-productive 

as its blasphemy 

law. 

Pakistan’s government 

unanimously 

passed a National Action 

Plan (NAP) so that 

there would be no room 

left for extremism in 

any part of the country 

following the December, 

2014 Taliban attack. 

NAP among its 20 

points, outlaws radical 

literature and funding, 

calls for restructuring 

in the FATA region and 

Balochistan to address 

regional grievances, and 

lifts the moratorium on 

the death sentence for 

convicted terrorists. 

But reports suggest 

that over a year into its 

execution, NAP has been 

less effective and more 

counter-productive.

Action Plan has

to challenge the laws.

Kaspersky Lab researchers have 

investigated a global forum where 

cyber criminals can buy and sell 

access to compromised servers for 

as little as $6 each. 

The xDedic marketplace, which 

appears to be run by a Russian-speaking 

group, currently 

lists 70,624 hacked Remote Desktop 

Protocol (RDP) servers for sale 

and India ranks fourth in hacked 

servers with 3,488 compromised 

servers listed on xDedi as of May 

2016. 

According to the investigation, 

many of the servers host or provide 

access to popular consumer 

websites and services and some 

have software installed for direct 

mail, financial accounting and 

Point-of-Sale (PoS) processing. 

They can be used to target the 

owners’ infrastructures or as a 

launch-pad for wider attacks, 

while the owners, including government 

entities, corporations

(ISP) alerted Kaspersky Lab 

to the existence of xDedic and the 

companies worked together to investigate 

how the forum operates.

laureate Amartya Sen said on Saturday
