601 Writing from Elijah. Ahaziah king 2 CHRONICLES 21:8–22:3
David to ruin, a for the sake of the
covenant b that he had concluded
with David, and just as he had
said he would give him c and his
sons a lamp always. d
8 In his days Edom e revolted
from under the hand of Judah
f and then made a king
to reign over them. g 9 So Jehoram
together with his chiefs
passed over and also all the chariots
with him. And it came about
that he rose up by night and
went striking down the Edomites
that were surrounding him
and also the chiefs of the chariots.
10 But Edom kept up its
revolt from under the hand of Judah
down to this day. It was then
that Libnah h began to revolt at
the same time from under his
hand, because he had left Jehovah
the God of his forefathers. i
11 He himself also had made
high places j on the mountains of
Judah, that he might cause the
inhabitants of Jerusalem to have
immoral intercourse, k and that
he might drive Judah away. l
12 Eventually there came a
writing m to him from E·lijah n the
prophet, saying: “This is what
Jehovah the God of David your
forefather has said, ‘Due to the
fact that you have not walked in
the ways of Je·hosha·phat o your
father or in the ways of Asa p the
king of Judah, 13 but you walk
in the way of the kings of Israel q
and cause Judah and the inhabitants
of Jerusalem to have immoral
intercourse r the same way
that the house of Ahab caused
the having of immoral intercourse,
s and even your own
brothers, the household of your
father, who were better than you,
CHAP. 22
o 2Ki 8:24
1Ch 3:11
you have killed; t 14 look! Jehovah
is dealing a great blow u to
your people v and to your sons w
and to your wives and to all your
goods. 15 And you will be with
many sicknesses, x with a malady
of your intestines, until your intestines
have come out because
of the sickness day by day.’” a
16 Accordingly Jehovah
aroused against Je·horam the
spirit b of the Phi·listines c and
the Arabs d that were by the side
of the E·thi·opi·ans. e 17 So
they came up into Judah and
forced it open and took captive
all the goods that were to be
found in the king’s house f and
also his sons and his wives, g and
there was not left to him a son
but Je·hoa·haz, h his youngest
son. 18 And after all this Jehovah
plagued him in his intestines
with a sickness for which
there was no healing. i 19 And
it came about that in the days to
come,evenwhenthetermoftwo
full years had expired, his intestines
j came out during his sickness,
and he gradually died in
his bad maladies; and his people
did not make a burning for him
like the burning k for his forefathers.
20 Thirty-two years old
he happened to be when he began
to reign, and for eight years
he reigned in Jerusalem. Finally
he went away without being desired.
l So they buried him in the
City of David, m but not in the
burial places of the kings. n
Then the inhabitants of
22 Jerusalem made A·ha·ziah
o his youngest son king in
place of him, (for the marauder
band that came with the Arabs p
to the camp had killed all the
older ones,) q and A·ha·ziah the
son of Je·horam began to reign
as king of Judah. 2 Twentytwo
years old was A·ha·ziah
when he began to reign, r and for
one year he reigned in Jerusalem.
And his mother’s name was
Ath·a·liah s the granddaughter of
Omri. t
