PREFACE 

This is the story of a Father’s love that has left an indelible impact on the life and vision. I am 

talking about my father - Madathilparampil Mammen Mammen. He was a banker who left his 

banking because he could not be heartless in retrieving loan money from his loaners. He 

went into printing and publishing business and was involved in the freedom struggle of Indian 

Independence movement. During the period Salt Sathyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi, he 

joined the movement and taken the oath of vegetarianism and wearing of hand-spun khadi 

dresses. Early in the agricultural trade union movement he was a strong supporter for them. 

He was the Sunday school headmaster and representative and the trustee to the central 

Marthoma Church until as a reformer he had to leave the church to form the St.Thomas 

Evangelical Church of India. 

Our printing press was the second press in south India after the Church Mission Society’s 

press in Kottayam. Ours was the first daily newspaper in Malayalam. In those days lead 

based types were used to set the printing matter. After some time the lead being a soft will 

lose its sharpness. These were of low melting point that it will melt with a candle flame. As 

a young boy of 10 we played with it a lot. One day I wanted to melt the lead types and form a 

small craft design. I put them on a table spoon and began to heat it. Dad told me not to do 

it. But I still did it when having formed a blob the metal fluid fell over on to my thigh. It was

urning into my flesh when my Dad came running to me and bruised it off my legs with his 

hands. I had a deep wound which took over a month to heal and Dad had all his right hand 

fingers burnt and took over a week to get healed. 

I still have the marks of the burn and often look at them. 

The verse that immediately comes to mind is: 

Jews took God as their tribal God, a warrior king, jealous king killing all their enemies. In the 

process of progressive revelation,the ultimate revelation of God came through Jesus and it 

was the revelation of God as Father. 

I was surprised that none of the early fathers presented God the Father as he expressed His 

love to the belligerent children Adam and Eve. Instead they saw an angry God order them out 

of his Kingdom and ordering their execution. It will therefore come as a new surprise to many 

especially with the popular presentation of God as a King in the European Feudal system of 

the post middle age period. God’s love is expressed in driving his children out of the Garden 

of Eden and giving the blessing of Death to reduce the period of hell mankind will produce by 

their own choice. Death is the greatest blessing of God the Father to his children, over riding 

the eternal hell they brought themselves by their free choice. One day He will wake his 

children up and bring them home. Knowing the power of Love and the character of God our 

Father, he will bring not only all his children, even the creation will be liberated from its 

bondage to the glorious liberty of the Sons of God. He will indeed make all things new, and 

we will have a new day again.

It may be new; but that is the clear message of the Genesis story. God is our Father and 

God is Love and what else can we expect? Ina world filled with distorted self based message 

of salvation and election this is a new proposal. He who has ears, let them hear. His Love 

endures forever.

I 

WHAT IS THE CHARACTER OF GOD?. 

The character of God remained the same throughout the period of creation and goes on 

to ages after ages without end. 

Malachi 3:6 - For I the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. 

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 

James 1:17 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the 

Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 

Revelation 1:8 - I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, 

and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. 

They were revealed through the ages in context as was needed for the growth and perfecting 

of man . It has been a progressive revelation. 

(Heb 1:1-2) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the 

fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath 

appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds. 

These revelations and teachings were transmitted mostly orally through teachings of the early 

saints and fathers. Later when the art of writing came into existence some of them were 

written down. These teaching tells us the character of God.

II 

GOD IS LOVE 

In the New Testament documents we have the best definition; 

"God is Love"This is actually 

the only definition of God in terms of who God is and His Character in relation to Man and 

within the Trinity. It does not say “God loves” but “God is Love”.

In 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 we

If God was before creation how could be define God as Love. Love implies more than one. 

This is why we define Godhead as Trinity - Three persons who are bound together in love in 

all essence. Father, Son, and Spirit are distinct persons, capable of loving and communicating 

with one another 

Jn. 5:20 The Father loves the Son and shows Him all that He does. 

Jn.10:15 The Son knows the Father as the Father knows the Son. 

Jn.14:26 The Father will send the Holy Spirit in the Son's name. 

Jn.14:31 The Son loves the Father and does His commandments. 

Jn.15:26 The Son will send the Holy Spirit from the Father; the Holy Spirit proceeds from the 

Father; the Spirit will testify of the Son. 

We are expressly told of the love relationship between the Father and the Son. 

But what of the Spirit? 

Holy Spirit procedes from the Father and they are One. 

Holy Spirit in Hebrew is female 

gender and this oneness shows the ideal oneness of the man and wife. In fact the terminology 

Father, Son and the Holy Spirit seems to indicate Trinity as the basic family before the creation.

Jesus’ prayer for the whole mankind was that all mankind be one family within the Trinity 

“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one 

in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I 

have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me that 

they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and 

hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (Jn. 17:21-23). 

The whole creation is within the Trinity forming one big family with the Holy Spirit binding us all 

in One Unity.

III 

GOD AS “ABBA”- FATHER 

"Father" is a metaphor used to describe God by nearly all ancient peoples. In fact most people 

worship their forefathers as part of God. The dead never leave or cease to exist. Instead 

they are the mediators between the living and God. 

In sharp contrast God is seldom referred to as Father in the Old Testament. But the concept is 

embedded in it very clearly 

Here are the few: 

"Is this the way you repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, 

your Creator, who made you and formed you?" (Deuteronomy 32:6, NIV) 

[The Father] guarded him as the apple of his eye.” (Deuteronomy 32:10) 

"Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of 

your hand." (Isaiah 64:8, NIV) 

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I 

took it from him that was before thee: (1Ch 17:13) 

He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I 

will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. (1Ch 22:10) 

"He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.'" (Psalms 89:26) 

But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, O 

LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name." (Isaiah 63:16)

"They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside 

streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father, 

and Ephraim is my firstborn son." (Jeremiah 31:9) 

"Have you not just called to me: 'My Father, my friend from my youth...." (Jeremiah 3:4) 

"I thought you would call me 'Father' and not turn away from following me." (Jeremiah 3:19b) 

Malachi 2:10 says, “Do we not all have one father? Has not one God created us?” 

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. 

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of 

Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)

““A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

At least some patriarchs knew God's love and protection as that of a Father.

One of the functions of the Father is to discipline children to 

make them whole. 

Heb 12: 5-11 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? 

“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, 

nor be weary when reproved by him. 

For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, 

and chastises every son whom he receives.” 

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there 

whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have 

participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly 

fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the 

Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, 

but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all 

discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of 

righteousness to those who have been trained by it. 

One of the things my Muslim brothers could not understand was that I called God "Father". 

Just like the Jews, they understood God only as a slave master who is angry. He might 

reward you if you do good, but will burn you if you don't do as He expect you to do the job. 

"Allah, most merciful and gracious" is a task master. That is exactly how the Jews saw God 

also. 

It was in this context that Jesus came with a revolutionary declaration of God as the Father of 

all Adamic Race. When Jesus taught his disciples he told them to address Him as "Our 

Father". In Aramaic it meant "Abba", "Daddy" as the babies addressed their fathers. 

That was the real character of God in relation to man.

“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” 

(Matthew 6:4) 

“Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8) 

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in 

barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much 

more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26) 

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to 

your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who 

ask him!” (Matthew 7:11) 

“Your Father in heaven is not willing that any one of these little ones should be 

lost.” (Matthew 18:14) 

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for 

him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him… But the father said to his 

servants, `Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals 

on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son 

of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” (Luke 15:20b, 22-24) 

“Jesus answered, `I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except 

through me…. Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:6,9) 

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor [or Comforter] to be with you 

forever – the Spirit of Truth.” (John 14:16) 

“The Father will give you whatever you ask in [Jesus’] name.” (John 15:16) 

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the 

Spirit of son-ship. And by him we cry, `Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:15) 

“I will be a Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (2

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the 

heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us…. In love he 

predestined us to be adopted as his [children].” (Ephesians 1:3-5) 

“Through [Christ] we… have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18) 

“[God is] the Father from whom all fatherhood derives its name.” (Ephesians 3:15) 

“Now to [the Father] who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, 

according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ 

Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

The history of man and his future history 

lie on this relationship. 

God deals with humans as a Father deals with his sons. 

The talismanic word of the Alexandrian fathers, as of the New Testament, was FATHER. 

This word, as now, unlocked all mysteries, solved all problems, and explained all the enigmas 

of time and eternity. 

Holding God as Father, punishment was held to be remedial, and therefore restorative, and 

final recovery from sin universal. It was only when the Father was lost sight of in the judge and 

tyrant, under the baneful reign of Augustinianism, the Deity was hated, and that Catholics 

transferred to Mary, and later, Protestants gave to Jesus that supreme love that is due alone to 

the Universal Father. For centuries in Christendom after the Alexandrine form of Christianity 

had waned, the Fatherhood of God was a lost truth, and most of the worst errors of the 

modern creeds are due to that single fact, more than to all other causes.

If God the Father was at least one tenth as good as my earthly father he would deal much 

better than the God who sends most of His children to burning hell for eternity because He 

considers himself Sovereign against whom they revolted. 

Matthew 7:9-12 

Or what man is there of you, 

whom 

If his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 

Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 

If you, then, though you are evil, 

know how to give good gifts to your children, 

how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask 

him! 

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, 

for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. 

It really is true— 

God loves us. Jesus said it plainly: 

“For the Father Himself loves you” 

(John 16:27). 

• GOD'S LOVE IS GLOBAL; 

• GOD'S LOVE IS SACRIFICIAL; 

• GOD'S LOVE IS PERSONAL; AND 

• GOD'S LOVE IS ETERNAL. 

Karl Barth was a Swiss Reformed theologian who is often regarded as the greatest Protestant 

theologian of the twentieth century. 

Pope Pius XII called him the most important Christian theologian since St. Thomas Aquinas.

oddest, most villainous or miserable, as one to whom Jesus Christ is Brother and God is

GOD IS HOLY 

קָדַשׁ Qadash 

KJV Dictionary Definition: holiness 

HO'LINESS, n. from holy. The state of being holy; purity or integrity of moral 

character; freedom from sin; sanctity. Applied to the Supreme Being, 

holiness denotes perfect purity or integrity of moral character, one of his 

essential attributes. 

Who is like thee, glorious in holiness? Ex.15. 

1. Applied to human beings, holiness is purity of heart or dispositions; sanctified affections; 

piety; moral goodness, but not perfect. 

We see piety and holiness ridiculed as morose singularities. 

2. Sacredness; the state of any thing hallowed, or consecrated to God or to his worship; 

applied to churches or temples. 

3. That which is separated to the service of God. 

Israel was holiness unto the Lord. Jer.2. 

4. A title of the pope, and formerly of the Greek emperors. 

HO'LY, a. 

1. Properly, whole, entire or perfect, in a moral sense. Hence, pure in heart, temper or 

dispositions; free from sin and sinful affections. Applied to the Supreme Being, holy signifies 

perfectly pure, immaculate and complete in moral character; and man is more or less holy, as 

his heart is more or less sanctified, or purified from evil dispositions. We call a man holy,when 

his heart is conformed in some degree to the image of God, and his life is regulated by the

divine precepts. Hence, holy is used as nearly synonymous with good, pious, godly. 

Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 pet.1. 

2. Hallowed; consecrated or set apart to a sacred use, or to the service or worship of God; a

Holy of hollies, in Scripture, the innermost apartment of the Jewish tabernacle or temple, 

where the ark was kept,and where no person entered, except the high priest, once a year. 

Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit, the Divine Spirit; the third person in the Trinity; the sanctifier of 

souls. 

Holy war, a war undertaken to rescue the holy land, the ancient Judea, from the infidels; a 

crusade; an expedition carried on by Christians against the Saracens in the eleventh, twelfth 

and thirteenth centuries; a war carried on in a most unholy manner.

In 1 Chronicles 23:13 we read of Aaron being “set apart” or made unique in 

his capacity to offer sacrifices for the people of God. This quality of 

uncommonness or uniqueness can apply to people, objects, or time. The ground, for example, 

upon which Moses encountered the Almighty in the burning bush was holy ground (Ex. 3:1–6). 

The part of the tabernacle containing the ark of the covenant is the holiest place (Lev. 16:1–2), 

and the old covenant festivals represent holy time (23). 

All of these earthly examples are holy because they are set apart by the Lord who is the most 

“different” or “other” person in the universe. Scripture communicates this idea in speaking of 

God’s transcendence. Our Creator is high and exalted (Isa. 33:5), above all things and 

unmatched in His power, glory, and purity (Ex. 15:11).

Qadash is being clean. God defines what is right and what is wrong, what is moral and 

what is not moral. In order to be clean God will have to move away from uncleanness 

or wash away the uncleanness. If a sinner comes into the presence of God what will 

be his reaction? What can God do. Is there a place where God is not present, where 

God can place the sinner? Since this cannot be, the only solution for God is to wash 

away the dirt 

1 Peter 1:14 - 19 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were 

yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all 

your behavior; because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.". If you address 

as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in 

fear during the time of your stay on earth knowing that you were not redeemed with 

perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 

but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

V 

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD 

To begin, we must go back to eternity past to when God alone existed. 

"In the beginning, God"(Gen. 1:1). 

This is an assumption all believers make. 

God has always existed and is self-existent . 

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, 

and which is to come, the Almighty. (Rev 1:8) 

Did God existed before the creation? Rev !:8 does not say that. It only says that as long as 

there was a beginning he was there. He will be there when there is an end. 

Existence itself gets the meaning only from God and in time. Time did not start until creation. 

In reality time is an entity derived by the mind to explain change or movement. If all 

movements and changes stop, then we will not have the time. Time is always measured in 

terms of changes. Periodic motions like pendulum, wheels etc are the means of measuring 

knowing.

Now we know that God created all things (Gen.1:1). 

The very sovereignity of God is at stake when he created free willed beings within himself as 

we have seen in the contraction concept. God laid down his sovereignity when he created 

man. Otherwise man was just a puppet or a machine. 

"Our God is in the Heavens. 

He does whatever He pleases" (Psa. 115:3; cf. Psa. 135:5-6; Job 23:13; Eph. 1:11; Dan.4:35). 

Does that mean he can do good and evil? 

Not really. 

God is good because goodness is defined by God. Goodness is what Love is. 

Anything done in love is good. 

Then anything done outside of love is evil. 

Can God do evil? 

Yes certainly God does whatever He wants to but all that he will do will be in love.. 

This is the pleasure of God (Matt. 11:26). 

God does as He pleases, always as He pleases, only as He pleases. So evil will be by 

definition what God cannot or will not do. 

But what determines his pleasure is decided by his character which is simply given as Love. 

Hence in all that he has been doing and will be doing will be based on this character unless

theology of Calvinism and their various forms attributing God an evil hating heart. Yes indeed 

the glory of God is bringing the whole creation in unison, ransomed, redeemed and new.

God knows all things past, present, and future. There is no limit to His knowledge, for God 

knows everything completely before it even happens (Romans 11:33). 

God can do all things and accomplish all things. Nothing is too difficult for Him, and He 

orchestrates and determines everything that is going to happen in your life, in my life, in 

America, and throughout the world. Whatever He wants to do in the universe, He does, for 

nothing is impossible with Him (Jeremiah 32:17). 

God is in control of all things and rules over all things. He has power and authority over 

nature, earthly kings, history, angels, and demons. Even Satan himself has to ask God’s 

permission before he can act (Psalm 103:19). 

That’s what being sovereign means. It means being the ultimate source of all power, authority, 

and everything that exists. Only God can make those claims; therefore, it’s God’s sovereignty 

that makes Him superior to all other gods and makes Him, and Him alone, worthy of worship. 

Just as peasants always bowed before their king for fear of offending the one who had the 

authority to take their life, God’s sovereignty compels us to bow before Him. But unlike corrupt 

earthly kings who abuse their authority to terrorize their subjects, God rules in love. He loves 

you and wants the best for you.” 

We can look at it from the point of view of God. This is to start from the beginning. God 

alone exists and all creations are within God - where else could they exist. Which would 

mean that God includes within him the whole creation as part of him. God is a Spirit and 

Creation is God’s temple. The concept of God as Elohim came from this idea. YHVH is the 

personal God with whom the whole creation in unison exists. Has YHVH got sovereignty? 

Certainly. Just because the creation is part of YHVH, he loves all creation as himself. This 

gives greater meaning to the command of Jesus.

The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other 

commandment greater than these.”

We present ourselves to Him as a living sacrifice, loving one another, living a holy life pleasing 

to Him. This glorifies God and is our “reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). It pains God when 

this sacrificial life is lost. When we worship with an obedient heart and an open and repentant 

spirit, God is glorified, Christians are purified, the church is edified, and the lost are 

evangelized. God is glorified and in good health. These are all the elements of true worship. 

This then is the interpretation based on the faith that is monotheistic. God will not give his

need not be in one person, it could be whole nation - the Elohim, including the King and the 

People. It failed in practice and monarchy and competitive authorities came into existence 

with the anointing of Saul. This concept is now presented in the democratic system of

GOD IS SPIRIT 

In creation God breathed onto the physical body of Adam which God built and Man “became” 

a living soul. 

The representation seems to be two varieties of dimensions - the Material Physical realms and 

Spiritual realms each with its many dimensions. There are Physical bodies and there are 

Spiritual bodies. Matter exists in Physical dimensions alone with 11 dimensions of existence. 

Though they are made of wave functions and collapses into observable realities they are 

under physical laws which is the realm of the science of Physics and Chemistry. 

But it is the Spirit that gives life. Though we cannot observe them through our senses, they are 

as much a reality as matter. The laws in this realm are different. Biology deals with the life 

that is entrapped in the physical realm. 

John 6: 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are 

spirit and they are life.

When the spirit joins the flesh we have life which gives the soul. It can probably be 

compared to a computer hardware which needs to be given electric power inorder to come to 

life. Without electricity the computer is just matter. What is stored in the computer hard disk 

can always be retrieved with proper procedures. To make it function the continued supply of 

power is necessary. In the same way the continued eternal supply of electricity is necessary 

for eternal life. Though some amount of electricity can be stored in a battery it is only for a 

limited time. The battery can be compared to the Spirit of God that man receives which gives 

him life. When that runs out man dies. The law of matter is that it goes from order to disorder. 

This is law of entropy from which there is no escape. The life giving Spirit functions as an 

intelligent agent which replaces order to higher order. It is this coexistence that gives 

continuity to life. On battery alone life cannot last beyond a given limit of time. 

It is this rebuilding that the Spirit does in the body of living organisms 

For every living being there is a physical material part and a spiritual immaterial part. The law 

of the material realm is increase in Entropy which is the measure of disorder. The law of 

spirit of life is to bring in order from disorder in the physical realm at its own expenditure. This 

is the expression of Love.

death: “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who 

gave it.”

God does not need your worship. Yet we need to worship him in order that our focus is on love 

and God, so that we may be in consonance and resonance with God, thus making the whole 

body and the mind and the spirit of God in health. Worship is the means of synchronizing 

with the spirit of God. God as a person do not and will not need it.

VII 

CREATION AS AN ACT OF LOVE 

Creation of man was the greatest act of love 

The character of God in His relation to the creatures in His creation is found in the very act of 

creation. 

In the Jewish mystical thought known as Kabballah, the creation itself will require that God 

constrain himself - empty himself - for the existence. If the "Infinite" did not restrict itself, then 

nothing could exist—everything would be overwhelmed by God's totality. Thus existence 

requires God's transcendence. In order to create, God restrained himself to provide space for 

existence and freedom for the beings he created. God sacrificed his sovereignty, his space of 

Lordship and his freedom. This is the ultimate sacrifice of an infinite God. 

Freedom means possibilities. 

God knew the possibilities - possibilities of fall and possibilities of redemption. God knew the 

pain right then, yet in His love He generated His Sons and Daughters in His likeness with total 

freedom as He himself has. 

This is not new. 

Every father and mother as they grow into a family repeats this process. Eventually every 

parent knows that their sons and daughters will have to act on their own free will and grow into 

maturity. The process of growth we know is sometimes filled with pain. 

They may fall. 

That is why parents are there. 

If they fall into evil ways, the parents do not kill them. 

They lay their lives to redeem them.

It is this love of God that is expressed in the Incarnation. This is why Jesus was called 'the 

lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world". 

Defining Love; Love is a universally understood concept, yet one that has no true definition. 

Love is a feeling that can be felt by all human beings, yet not a single one can come up with a 

solid definition. How then can we define love? 

Love is when two hearts interwine bringing crown of life to reality. Yet above it and above all 

is the cross that carries the imperfections and problems of the other even willing to die for 

one another. 

Tzimtzum - Kenosis 

This contraction or kenosis (in Greek) or emptying of himself is known as tzimtzum (in 

Hebrew). The word used here is "kenosis", and it is a self-renunciation - a transcendence of 

ego. At the same time nothing can exist without God requiring that God be simultaneously 

transcendent and immanent. On the one hand, he is absent from the space. On the other 

hand, God continuously maintains the existence of, and is thus not absent from, the created

universe. The Divine life-force which brings all creatures into existence must constantly be 

present within them, 

were this life-force to forsake any created being for even one brief 

moment, it would revert to a state of utter nothingness, as before the creation. Because the 

tzimtzum results in the "empty space" in which spiritual and physical Worlds and ultimately, 

free will can exist, God is often referred to as "Ha-Makom" המקום)‏ lit. "the Place", "the 

Omnipresent") in Rabbinic literature

This understanding is supported by various biblical 

"You have made the heaven... the earth and all that is on it... and You give life to them all" 

(Nehemiah 9:6); 

"All the earth is filled with God's Glory" (Numbers 14:21); 

"God's Glory fills the world" (Isaiah 6:3). 

Creation therefore requires God's immanence. While God transcends the creation. 

Rabbi Nachman of Breslav discusses this inherent paradox as follows: 

Only in the future will it be possible to understand the Tzimtzum that brought the 'Empty 

Space' into being, for we have to say of it two contradictory things… 

[1] the Empty Space came about through the Tzimtzum, where, as it were, He 'limited' His 

Godliness and contracted it from there, and it is as though in that place there is no Godliness... 

[2] the absolute truth is that Godliness must nevertheless be present there, for certainly 

nothing can exist without His giving it life. (Likkutei Moharan I, 64:1)

In the beginning there was only God... and nothing else. 

God, or Ein Sof, was an all-encompassing Divine Presence, light called "Or Ein Sof" 

Light of Infinity).

Since nothing but God existed before creation, when God decided to create 'yesh' (i.e., 

"something") from its 'Ein' (i.e., "nothing"), God needed to "make a space" or to "provide room" 

for that which was not God (i.e., otherness). God therefore "emptied himself" by contracting 

his infinite light to create a conceptual space for the creation of the universe. In a great cosmic 

flash, God then "condensed" into a point of infinite density and infinite energy called 'tzimtzum' 

"contraction") and "exploded out" in all directions (i.e., the cosmic "Big Bang"). In a ‏,*צִמְצוּם*)‏ 

sense, this self-imposed "contraction" of the Infinite Light is a picture of God "sacrificing" 

Himself for the sake of creation - the cross. This is the lamb that was slain before the creation 

of the world 

There is another paradox in the creation. 

The real world created by God is not based on power and authority but on sacrifice and 

service. The greatest in the Kingdom of God is not the one who act as King and Sovereign 

but those who serve. 

Matthew 23:11-12 He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. For he who exalts 

himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Here's how Isaac Luria (the Ari) describes the doctrine of 

tzimtzum: 

"Prior to Creation, there was only the infinite Or Ein Sof filling all existence. When it arose in

"tzimtzum") Himself in the point at the center, in the very center of His light. He restricted that 

light, distancing it to the sides surrounding the central point, so that there remained a void, a 

hollow empty space, away from the central point... After this tzimtzum... He drew down from 

the Or Ein Sof a single straight line [of light] from His light surrounding [the void] from above to 

below [into the void], and it chained down descending into that void.... In the space of that void 

He emanated, created, formed and made all the worlds." 

So God restricted himself from this worlds he created and thus do not want to know what is 

their will and actions and future. This will take away the predestination problem. God 

willingly gave up his prescience and gave an area of uncertainty and ability to choose within 

those realms. God has that freedom and he gave that freedom to man - so that man may be 

the image of God and hence in true sense Sons of God - "Adam, Son of God". 

The Bible reveals God has other sons besides Jesus (who alone is cosubstantial with God; 

His only begotten Son ), who are created by God in the various dimensions of Cosmos. They 

form the body of God. 

a. Angels - the sons of God (e.g., Job 38:7) including Fallen angels (Genesis 6:2), and 

even Satan (Job 1:6) 

b. Adam - the son of God (Luke 3:38) and through Adam all Mankind - Fallen and Unfallen 

Specially the Believers - "sons of God" (e.g., I John 3:2) 

Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, 

and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 

The material world is subject to predetermined laws of Physics. Even there we see uncertainly 

principle that gives space for choice which are not predetermined. The written Law 

correspond to this type of administration while the Law of Spirit gives choice and more 

freedom.

But God gave the freedom of the Spirit world to the Spirit of Man. 

Psalm 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by 

the breath of His mouth all their host. 

John 6:63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; 

2 Corinthians 3:17 "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of 

the Lord is, there is freedom" 

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, 

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living 

being. 

John 20:17 17Jesus said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the 

Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and 

My God and your God.'" 

God's primary goal of creation was a Man who was to be made in God's image. 

If Adam was pre-programmed and every action of Adam was pre-destined, Adam would never 

had the freedom as the son of God and was not an image of God. It is the image of God 

property that gave Adam the ability to fall. Did God fail? As a growing up process Adam fell. 

But the presence of the Father will be there to rectify and restore. Finally, we are told He will 

redeem and restore all creation to the perfection He wanted to be so that God will be "all in 

all," and the world will be restored to heavenly perfection....God will have his family with Him 

made in right standing..

VIII 

CREATION AS THE BODY OF GOD 

Since God created everything within himself they form the body of God. According to Judeo- 

Christian monotheistic pattern that includes material and spiritual worlds, including all 

dimensions and life forms in cosmos.. Where else could it be? 

The beings hence form part of 

the living cells within the body which has specific function to do and combine to form organs of 

the body of God. 

As long as the whole parts work synchronized with the whole Godhead as 

one unit, the body is perfect and complete. 

Sin of sentient beings form the cancer within God's body.

If some cells try to take over the function of other cells and some organs become cancerous 

the whole body suffers and God is in pain. Hence the redemption (healing) alone can bring 

back God and creation in consonance. 

Since there are no space outside of God, no surgical removal can be done. 

Total annihilation of these sinners could remove the material pain. But what about the 

memories of the past. 

Total redemption of everything is the only solution if God has to get out of His agony. In Him, 

we move and have our being. If just one tiny cell remain sick and evil, God will be in agony. 

Hence follows the extreme self giving, sacrificing Love of God and the total redemption of the 

whole creation so that God may be what He wants to be "in all and all in Him". 

We can think of this analogy also as an analogy of a family or a tribe or our planet of even 

beyond. In love we are one. We can never be complete and happy by surgical removal of a 

live part and throwing it out. They will always be part of us and will be an agony to eternity. 

Monotheism and Dualism 

In the above argument, we have started with the Person of God alone as the sole starting 

point who can create matter and all other entities potentially. There are systems of religion 

where they start with both Person and the Matter (Purusha and Prakriti) and the Person 

creates using the Matter and the Space outside of Him. Here since the Person of God is 

outside of the rest of the Universe, what happens in the Universe does not cause pain to the 

person. In this case the pain remains with the beings in the Universe alone. God can turn His 

back on Prakriti and go on with His future. However this dualism is not acceptable to 

Christian monotheism. As a result anything happens to the creation is happening within God 

Himself.

The concept of God's essence in Eastern Orthodox theology is called (ousia) and is distinct 

from his energies (energeia in Greek, actus in Latin) or activities as actualised in the world. 

The ousia of God is God as God is. 

It is the energies of God that enable us to experience something of the Divine, at first through 

sensory perception and then later intuitively or noetically. 

The essence, being, nature and substance (ousia) of God is taught in Eastern Christianity as 

uncreated and incomprehensible. God's ousia is defined as "that which finds no existence or 

subsistence in another or any other thing". 

God's ousia is beyond all states of (nous) consciousness and unconsciousness, being and 

non-being (like being dead or anesthetized), beyond something and beyond nothing, beyond 

existence and non-existence. 

God's ousia has not in necessity or subsistence needing or having dependence on anything 

other than itself. 

God's ousia as uncreated is therefore incomprehensible to created beings such as human

Therefore, God in essence is superior to all forms of ontology (metaphysics). The source, 

origin of God's ousia or incomprehensibility is the Father hypostasis of the Trinity, One God in 

One Father. 

God's ousia is uncreatedness, beyond existence, beyond non-existence, God's hyper-being is 

not something comprehensible to created beings. As St John Damascene states "all that we 

say positively of God manifests not his nature but the things about his nature." 

God's energies (energia) are "unbegotten" or "uncreated" just like the existences of God 

(Father, Son, Holy Spirit) both God's existences and energies are experience-able or 

comprehensible. A real distinction between the essence (ousia) and the energies (energeia) of 

God is a central principle of Eastern Orthodox theology. 

It is the energies of God that creates and form the substance of creation. The Word 

becoming the world. This is what makes the difference between, Son in the Trinity and Adam 

and other sons of God in the creation.

Mother God - Ruah Ha Kodesh - The Holy Spirit. 

In Hebrew, the word “Ruach” is feminine gender, assigning to the Spirit a feminine nature, 

character, gender, or characteristic. 

There is much Scripture to back up the Truth of the HOLY SPIRIT or RUACH HA KODESH in 

Hebrew, being female. Just as Adam was both Male and Female until God made Eve who 

proceded from Adam as a seperate Female part. So also God the Father contains within Him, 

the female aspect - the Holy Spirit which is clearly stated as proceding from the Father in the 

Nicene Creed as seen in the Eastern Churches: 

“We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the 

Father, who with the Father and Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke 

by the prophets and apostles.” 

Western churches has the Latin word filioque ("and the Son") added after the declaration 

that the Holy Spirit ‘proceeds from the Father’. Filioque is a Latin word meaning "and the 

Son" which was added to the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed by the Church of Rome in the 

11th century, one of the major factors leading to the Great Schism between East and West. 

Others accepts the addition ” through the Son” which is acceptable to the East. Eastern 

Orthodox insist that to equate "through the Son" with "from the Son" is a departure from the 

true faith. The idea seems to be that the Godhead is a family: Father, Spirit and the Son. 

Son being before all creation and Wisdom being with the Father in the creation process beside

according to Our likeness. And Elohim made them male and female.” 

The word “human” here will say “man” in your translation, but it comes from the Hebrew word “Adam” 

which means humankind or “mankind“, if you prefer the traditional term. 

The US is Male and Female 

This is why when God created Man in his own image we have the reiterated emphasis that the 

image is in Male and Female together. That is why marriages are supposed to form male and 

female as One. This is again implied in the marriage of Christ with the Church implying the 

transformation mankind into the likeness of the Son - the concept of Theosis. The living 

mankind will form part of the body of Christ. That indeed was the puspose of creation of 

Adam.

In this concept of creation of life, the breath of life which is considered to be the Holy Spirit of 

God, gives life to the physical body. The soul can be compared to the computer. The body 

is similar to the hardware and the breath of life is similar to the power source. Every 

computer has a small power souce in the batteries that are in it. This gives life to the computer. 

When the power is off, or when the batteries run out, the computer is dead even though all the 

work is recorded and resides in the hardware. It will come to life when power isconnected. 

The batteries can be replaced or recharged to give additional periods of life.

CHARACTER OF GOD AS REVEALED TO MOSES 

YHVH reveals Himself to Moses 

In the Old Testament YHVH's nature and character is described in the announcement of the 

Angels as the Lord passed before Moses when Moses asked to see the face of God. God 

does not show His face since no man can see His face and live. Instead Moses sees only 

the back of God - a part of God's nature. We do not know what Moses Saw. But what is 

presented is a Royal entry of YHVH and the declaration of who YHVH is as he enters the 

scene in the traditional Kingly fashion. It gives 13 attributes of God. This revelation came in 

the very Beginning of the giving of the Law, long before the final revelation through Jesus the 

Son of God through His incarnation as Son of Man.

forced to admit that this choice is based on his character. They may not specify love of God

THIS IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD 

The Concept of Contraction (Tzimtzum) as Sacrificial Love 

The concept of tzimtzum is the principle described in the contraction and repair theory of the 

"Arie" (Rabbi Isaac Luria). 

According to his school, the deity constricted His Infinitude to make room for the creation of 

man and the world. 

In doing so he empowered man charging him with the responsibility for 

his own destiny and even for influencing the divine construct. This is what we call Freedom. 

In this 

a two-way relations are created between the Creator and the created, both contract 

themselves and complement each other’s creations. This is what we call ‘LOVE”. This model 

serves as a basis for tzimtzum on the human level. 

This is defined by Jesus in his statement: 

John 15:13 (ASV) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his 

friends.

For every contraction (tzimtzum), another part expands. 

Tzimtzum makes room for others, thereby giving a person and others space to co-exist. 

The movement of tzimtzum is dynamic. Sometimes there is tzimtzum, and sometimes there 

is extension or expansion, and there is no one constant force that controls the other. 

The tzimtzum of an individual makes room for the other but is essentially different than selfeffacement 

as it is commonly understood. In the tzimtzum the individual does not vanish or 

become erased but continues to exist but with higher potency. Since the point has zero 

dimension, the potency will be (Potency)/0 which is the definition of infinite. 

Tzimtzum may be articulated on an inter-personal level, between parents and children, 

between spouses and between friends. It can be articulated in a family, a group, a tribe, a 

nation and even in the whole world of mankind. When it is expressed in the whole creation, it 

becomes the Kingdom of God, where God will be in all and all will be in God. 

This was clearly explained by Jesus: 

“Jesus called [the disciples] together and said, 

“You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, 

and their high officials exercise authority over them. 

Not so with you. 

Instead, 

whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 

and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, 

and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45

Yes, the Gentiles use their power to overpower the people around them. 

They make sure everyone knows who the boss is. Not so with you. 

“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, 

and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet”. John 13:3-5 

In this upper room as Jesus prepares for the cross set before him, He becomes acutely aware 

of His authority. 

So what did Jesus do? 

He immediately humbled Himself and served! 

‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’ he asked them. 

‘You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. 

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, 

you also should wash one another’s feet. 

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 

Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, 

nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 

Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.’ John 13:12-15

Father God shows his Power by serving and magnifying Jesus because Father loves the Son. 

The statement can be extended to all God’s children. That includes Adam and the human

God the Father gets his praise not because you praise Him, but because in His love he serves 

you. 

This is the praise of Jesus. 

In turn this is the praise of the Father.

Hearts bound in love as supreme and everyone carrying the cross. 

The dress of the Priests of Eastern Churches repesents the servants clothes ready to serve. 

This then is the principle of the Kingdom of God. 

This is what the Christian Churches failed to realize. 

Tzimtzum includes two main processes: contraction and expansion. The very process of 

constriction necessarily makes room for the expansion of some other element. Tzimtzum does 

not weaken but strengthens, and a connection (contact) is created between the constricting 

parties, which is stronger than the strength of either party.

“I and Thou” as Opposed to “I or Thou” 

One may compare two types of inter-personal behavior-the “I and thou” pattern and the “I or 

thou” pattern. In the “I and thou” pattern, the individual and the other act in co-existence, and 

the “I” evacuates space for the “thou”; whereas in the “I or thou” pattern, there are hostile 

relations between the “I” and the “you,” and one will always be at the expense of the other. In 

this type of relation there is always competition, one attempting displace and destroy the other. 

This is today the Kingdom of This World. The significance of this principle will be evident 

later when we discuss the reason for this upside down world. 

Reparation (Tikkun) 

In Kabbalistic Hasidism the idea of tzimtzum is accompanied by the additional concept known 

as tikkun (repair). The contraction is only the beginning or preparation for creation. After 

God’s act of contraction for the sake of creating the world, a kind of cosmic explosion of light 

and sparks is described - the word went out and creation took place. In the process of creation, 

as the creative word went out into the empty space, the containers were not able to hold them 

and a shattering of vessels took place, which in Kabbalistic language is called “the shattering 

of the vessels,” in the wake of which the sparks of holiness became scattered in the upper and 

lower worlds and became encased in separate shells. This is the fall. Instead of being together 

they were scattered and thought themselves elevated creating an “I or You” world 

The Hebrew verb Tikkun is only found four times in the Scriptures (Ecclesiastes 1:15, 7:13,

12:9, and Daniel 4:36). It means to make straight, establish, arrange, or repair. In Ecclesiastes 

7:13 the writer said, "Consider what God has done: Who can straighten [Takkan] what he has 

made crooked?" 

The concept that we have a moral duty to society originates in the Torah. In Deuteronomy 

16:20 God commanded Israel: "Follow justice and justice alone." The Hebrew prophet Amos 

condemned Israel's disregard of the widow, orphan and alien. He declared: "Seek good, and 

not evil, that you may live...Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate...let 

justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream!" (Amos 5:14-15, 

24). 

Here is the mystery hidden. The scattering of the vessels resulted in a social mishap. It is 

not that there were no spark of God within the particles. They were separated without 

subjecting to one another, without loving one another and not dying for one another. 

This then is the fall. It is not an individual problem. It is a social problem. Apparently the 

growing church as it failed to see the “I and you” connection is still thinking of the problem as 

an individual transformation problem alone.. 

You look into any presentation of the gospel,in today’s world, it is only directed at the personal 

level of transformation and faith in Christ so that they can escape the hell, totally ignoring the 

oneness aspect of the mankind. 

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has 

been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God 

is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the 

world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us 

and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever 

seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."

Early Church as soon as Jesus left tried to build this commune of love. They were defeated 

by one couple who retained “We and You”. Apparently every time it was tried elsewhere they 

lasted only for a very little time, for the same reason. 

Since then the established church never even tried to rebuild the dream of Jesus. The 

communal meal became symbol and messages were for personal salvation and for them 

going to heaven. 

This is the communion today.

A person’s job is to repair the fracture by an action called “raising the sparks”. Instead of 

leaving the sparks in a state of disconnection and separation, a person takes an active role in 

recreating worlds by tikkun, by repair- by connecting the scattered elements.

SONS OF GOD 

The idea of a "son" in first century Christian writings was different than it is today. The term 

"son" simply signified that he came from God and bore His image. 

Both of these things are true of Adam: 

“And above the expanse that was over their heads, like the appearance of a sapphire stone, 

was the likeness of a throne, and on the likeness of the throne, was a likeness like the 

appearance of a man .…” Ezekiel 1:26, 

Did God look like a Man? 

Kadmon - is an ancient revelation as seen in Ezekiel. 

This concept of pre-incarnate God as The Primordial Adam - Adam 

In the beginning of all things, the first 

creation was a configuration of primordial light-energy with the "shape" of a human being. This 

configuration was the archetypal pattern for all that followed.?? The Primordial Adam is dual 

and androgenous - in terms of human biology, Primordial Adam is neither male nor female, but 

both. From this proceeded the Holy Spirit and begot the Son, forming “One God Trinity.” They 

remain in eternal union though exhibit independence. This is the ideal of the created Adamic 

Race also. 

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness . . . " God created 

man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created 

them. -Genesis 1:26-27 ..and so, Adam was the "son of God". From Adam proceeded Eve and 

all humanity was begotten by them. 

Sexual reproduction is not the only form of reproduction in God’s world. 

It is simple biology to understand that reproduction can be either sexual or asexual.

Gregory Palamas of Thessaloniki (1296-1359) 

According to the Jewish Kaballah, creation took place in the contraction when the infinite Ein 

Sof Auhr emanated and expanded into the free vaccum and created beings. Thus the 

creation does not have the whole substance of God. A real distinction between the essence 

(ousia) and the energies (energeia) of God is a central principle of Eastern Orthodox Christian 

theology. Orthodox theologians generally regard this distinction as more than merely 

conceptual. This doctrine is most closely identified with Gregory Palamas of Thessaloniki, 

The ousia of God is God as God is the fullness of the Deity. The essence, being, nature and 

substance (ousia) is uncreated and incomprehensible. God's ousia is beyond all states of 

(nous) consciousness and unconsciousness, being and non-being, beyond something and 

nothing, beyond existence and non-existence. God's ousia has no necessity or subsistence 

that needs or is dependent on anything other than itself. As uncreated God's ousia is 

incomprehensible to any created being. God in essence is therefore superior to all forms of 

ontology (metaphysics). The source of God's ousia or incomprehensibleness is the Father 

hypostasis. 

God's energies are "unbegotten" or "uncreated," just like the existences of God (Father, Son, 

Holy Spirit), both God's existences and energies can be experienced or comprehended. In 

this dispensation, in which the Godhead is manifested in the energies, the Father appears as 

the possessor of the attribute which is manifested, the Son as the manifestation of the Father, 

the Holy Spirit as She who manifests.These would include kataphatic or positive statements of 

God like the list of St Paul's energies of God. God being love, faith and hope and knowledge 

(1Corinthians 13:2-13)

Thus in this extension Adam is the Son of God as Luke asserts. Adam is not the only son of 

God by energy. Bible talks about sons of God elsewhere in the Bible. 

Jacob is God's son and firstborn: "Israel is my son, even my firstborn" Exodus 4:22. 

Solomon is God's son "He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of 

his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son": 2 Samuel 7:13-14. 

Ephraim is God's firstborn: "for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn" Jeremiah 

31:9 

(who is God's firstborn? Israel or Ephraim?). 

Adam is the son of God "Adam, which was the son of God" Luke 3:38. 

Common people (you and me) are the sons of God: 

"Ye are the children of the LORD your God" Deuteronomy 14:1. 

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" Romans 8:14. 

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,

As we can see, the use of the term "son of God" when describing normal human beings was 

not at all an uncommon practice among Jesus' people.

gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken..." John 10:34: 

In the Hebrew Bible, the phrase "sons of the Elohim" occurs in:

the whole creation in all dimensions. The second has a dialectics. You should love yourself 

to maintain yourself to do the work that is given to you.

loving oneself

Merism is a figure of speech by which something is referred to by a conventional phrase that 

enumerates several of its constituents or traits. 

In the marriage vows: "for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health." 

Hook, line, and sinker. (To swallow something hook, line, and sinker means to swallow it 

completely.) 

High and low. (To search high and low means to look for something everywhere) 

Lock, stock, and barrel. (Referring to the different parts of a gun. As a mersim, it refers to the 

whole of any object) 

Flesh and bone. (Referring to the body). 

Search every nook and cranny. (Search everywhere). 

Sun, sea and sand. (Referring to a holiday destination). 

Young and old. (Describing all the population.) 

Heaven and hell, 

Near and far 

“Peace to the far and peace to the near,” 

“The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in,” meaning the Lord will take care of 

everything in your life wherever you are.. 

Then “good and evil” is actually a merism which means “everything connected to good and 

evil.” Whenever a decision is to be taken, man will have a moral understanding of what it will

It can lead to goodness or it can lead to evil results. However unless man has the 

capacity to make the right choice by growing into the likeness of God the choice will be based 

on selfish motives. The idea is that Man now have the potential of all knowledge than they can 

morally handle. 

It is this that can eventually destroy mankind. 

Daath 

Daath could be called the Highest Point of Awareness for the Human soul as a Soul of itself, 

for beyond Daath we enter the level of the Supernals. The Soul, having reached this state of 

consciousness, can remain to assist the planetary Hierarchy or ascend and move from this 

Dimension. Daath could be called the sphere of Realization and Illumination. This is the Apple 

which was eaten by Adam and Eve. 

Crossing over this chasm of Knowledge will take man into the realms of Elohims. However 

there is a dialectics in the knowledge. The dialectics of Good and Evil along with the freedom 

as an Elohim, man will take his place as the cocreator with God.

In the Elohim dimensions are the Wisdom and Understanding both properties of the Holy Spirit. 

Thus without the presence of Wisdom and Understanding it degenerates into self-love leading 

to pain and suffering of the mankind - the hell. 

Daath becomes the pit of hell.Adam should 

have eaten the fruit of the Tree of Life - the Spirit of God - before eating the Tree of Knowledge. 

Then with the help of wisdom and understanding they could have made the right choice. 

The Dialectics of Good and Evil 

Gordon Gekko’s speech in the 1987 film Wall Street explains: 

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed—for lack of a better word — is good. 

Greed is right. 

Greed works. 

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. 

Greed, in all of its forms—greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the 

upward surge of mankind.” 

Bernard Mandeville (1670—1733) 

Bernard de Mandeville, was a philosopher, political economist and satirist. Born in the 

Netherlands, he lived most of his life in England and wrote most of his works in English.

He was known for The Fable of the Bees (1714), which was first published as a 433-line poem 

in 1705; by the sixth edition of 1729 it had become a treatise. Mandeville depicted a hive full of 

bees, each going about its business in its own way, and suggested that vice and fraud were as 

much a part of their success as industry and virtue. All of these, he said, are necessary for a 

market-based society to flourish; vice and greed are among the qualities of the egoistic 

individuals who make up such a society. Mandeville examined the way in which private vices, 

such as vanity, luxury, and the desire for material possessions and fashion, benefit the public 

by creating a market for commercial and industrial products. The book was remarkably witty 

and appealing, and it sparked considerable discussion among moralists and economists. 

Berkeley and Hutcheson spoke out against its sarcastic and cynical implications, but its ideas 

influenced Adam Smith and anticipated the doctrine of conspicuous consumption later 

promulgated by the American economist and sociologist, Thorsten Veblen. 

Bernard de Mandeville says: 

“The truth is brutally simple: a prosperous society, indeed, any large society at all, needs vice 

like a fish needs water. If we desire a society comfortable enough to be worth living in, we are 

far better investing in greed, envy, unscrupulous competition, manipulation, dishonesty, and 

lying than in probity, truthfulness, charity, and fairness. In the doggerel of the fable itself, “all 

Trades and Places knew some Cheat; No Calling was without Deceit”; so, “every Part was full 

of Vice, / Yet the whole Mass a Paradise. 

“On the other hand, an easy situation, on some abundant island in which men and women live 

honestly, may be peaceable, but it is also boring. 

“They shall have no Arts or Sciences...they must be poor, ignorant, and almost wholly destitute 

of what we call the Comforts of Life, and all the Cardinal Virtues together won’t so much as 

procure a tolerable Coat or a Porridge Pot among ’em." 

This indeed was the personal experience of the Animal world and their understanding of the 

world they lived in. 

It is this wisdom that the Serpent gave to Eve and Adam.

the tree was good for food, 

and that it was a delight to the eyes, 

and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, 

she took some of its fruit, and ate; 

and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too. 

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of 

life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s. 

The result of this was found in the rest of history of Adam and his family. The power that 

one gets with the knowledge can make them superior to others. What we notice in the 

immediate history of Adam family was, for some reason, the older Cain kills, the younger Abel. 

Love would require that a brother even die for the brother. This then was the fall. Instead of 

becoming Sons of God with love as the character, they began to dominate over others. Life 

became a struggle for existence and superiority. The Kingdom of God has been turned upside 

down and Life turned out to be a hell for mankind.. 

Unlike the claim that the second they ate the fruit instead of they becoming separated from 

God, God comes after them, calling “Where are you?” They tried to hide themselves.

He searches them and finds them. As soon as God found them out in their hiding place, they 

said they were naked and He took them home and covered them with fur coats. 

Genesis 3:21, "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, 

and clothed them." 

They were His children, created in His own image. God is Love. He cannot act in any other 

way. 

Now God has to face the consequence of the immense knowledge of good and evil 

prematurely 

received by the children. 

And the council was held by the whole Elohim and God announced the problem to them, “Man 

has become like one of us knowing good and evil.” If they stayed within the Garden and if 

they ate of the Tree of Life also, they will be eternally living in hell since the tree of life 

provided immortality. The only way to assure that this will not happen was to drive them out of 

the Garden and make the Garden secured by guards. This was the decision of the Elohim. 

Was this decision based on an earlier experience of another being eating the tree of the good 

and evil and then ate also the tree of life and exists even today in hell? A life of pain and agony 

which never can end. Unless....? How will God solve that problem? 

Gen 2:22-23 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing

good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and 

eat, and live forever” therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, 

God then placed a Cherubim with a "flaming sword" to guard against any future entrance into 

the garden. (Genesis, 3:24) 

The Judgement 

Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent: 'Because thou hast done this, cursed art 

thou from among all cattle, and from among all beasts of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, 

and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life. 

Gen 3:16 Unto the woman He said: 'I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy travail; in pain thou 

shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.' 

Gen 3:17-19 And unto Adam He said: 'Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy 

wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying: Thou shalt not eat of it; 

cursed is the ground for thy sake; 

in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. 

Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; 

and thou shalt eat the herb of the field. 

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, 

till thou return unto the ground; 

for out of it wast thou taken; 

for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.'

This is the picture painted to us by the Greco-Roman tradition. God was very angry with 

Adam and Eve and He cursed them. He then threw them out of the Paradise. 

But let us look at the Scripture to discern. 

“cursed art thou”: 

The word “cursed” is only used in addressing the serpent, as the originator of the temptation, 

and 

in reference to “the ground” as the sphere of man’s penalty (Genesis 3:17). 

God does not pronounce a curse either upon the man or upon the woman.

There is no direct indication as to the identity of Serpent with Devil which is usually assumed. 

This hostility represents the hostility between Satan and all mankind. 

would be the demons and the offspring of the woman is Christ, the Messiah. 

The offspring of Satan 

Serpent was presented as an intelligent animal which probably walked on legs. V 15 is often 

considered as the solution to the problem of evil through the offspring of Eve - Jesus - who will 

find a way out of the destruction caused by the evil advise.

A team of paleontologists, led by Dr Dave Martill from the University of Portsmouth, UK, has 

found a unique four-legged specimen in the Crato Formation of Brazil. It lived during the Early 

Cretaceous, around 110 million years ago. The snake, named Tetrapodophis amplectus 

(meaning "four-footed snake" in Greek) by the team, is a juvenile and very small, measuring 

just 20cm from head to toe, although it may have grown much larger. The head is the size of 

an adult fingernail, and the smallest tail bone is only a quarter of a millimetre long. 

But the most remarkable thing about it is the presence of two sets of

Gen 3:11 God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I 

commanded you not to eat from?” 

Gen 3:12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from 

the tree, and I ate it.” 

Gen 3:13 Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The 

serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 

This was evidently an attempt to evade responsibility and blame somebody else for the crime. 

Thus it required that a creation of hierarchical responsibility was needed. God’s suggestion 

was Adam, Eve and then the rest of the animals. The prime impulse on which animals act 

was self preservation. It was only Adam and Eve who had the knowledge of Good and Evil. 

So they were to take responsibility. Since Eve was the one who fell to the temptation of self 

preservation and improvement, she was made less responsible to the decision making. As 

for Adam, his choice was indeed made upon love. Adam knew the consequences of the 

disobedience, and he did not want Eve to go through it alone. So he knowingly and willingly 

took the choice. Hence Adam was made responsible for right choices. 

“I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. 

He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” 

A beginning of a new birth, a totally new creation starts with the Seed of the Woman. It was, 

like the first Breath of Life. Eve was partaking of this process of redemption actively with the 

pain she bore in bringing children. In due time the creator himself was born the form of Man as 

second Adam to redeem all mankind.

Why was the ground cursed. 

It is the statement of increase in entropy so that decay and eventual death will occur “in the 

day”. 

Another direct result of this would be its ability to produce harvest as it used to be in the 

past.Tilling and keeping will be required. Work and provide for the family was the 

responsibility of Man. 

What is the day? 

Usually people take the day as our usual 24 hours - 12 hour day and 12 hour night. 

how most biblical scholars interpret the day even in the creation days. 

But what does the bible say?

Now where in the Bible a day is defined as 12 hours except in a passing remark of Jesus, “is 

there not 12 hours in a day” as a common language phrase. 

Day is defined in Genesis clearly. 

Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 

Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was 

evening and there was morning, one day. 

So according to this definition, the day time is as long as there is light and night time is as long 

as there is darkness.

Hence the decision was that Man should not be in this hell of the Kingdom of this World for 

less than a 1000 human years. They will all sleep until a solution is provided when father and 

mother will wake up the children to a new day and new age. 

The usual explanation for death and expulsion from Eden is based on the influence of Greco- 

Roman justice system. Sin must be punished. Justice of God predominate His Love. 

Such a relationship is representative of the Feudal Lord to his vassals and of the Master to 

their slaves. This is still the explanation of Islam which broke out from Christianity around

600 AD. The same idea was taken over after a millenium by the reformers. 

Far from it. It was the expression of the Great Love God had for his children that he wanted 

to save them from eternal hell that gave expulsion and consequent death to Mankind. This 

reduced the hell period on earth to short period till they can rise up and be normal within the 

family as Sons of God. 

“There is nothing wrong about celebrating divine sovereignty, so long as we understand that 

God’s inscrutable power is not exercised on a whim, but always as an expression of love for 

his people. His sovereignty is pro-us.” 

 

(Gen 3:23-24) 

Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he 

was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of

When Adam and Eve choose the self-based Kingdom of this World, he turned thee Kingdom 

of God upside down. The resultant world was a world based on selfish greed and in its turn 

gave rise to a society based on power and exploitation of one class by another. Two such 

forms exists in the world today - the Class system based on individual competition and Caste 

system based on heredity and family. Class system produced the Capitalism Slavey and 

Caste System produced the hierarchy as seen in India. 

As the population increases this struggle will intense creating the hell that is this world. God 

did not create a hell. Hell is what we produced because of the fall. It is this what God 

wanted to save his children. In order to reduce the hell time God, decreed the life time of

On the second day (1656 years after expulsion) God came down to see His children on earth. 

Were they able to use the knowledge of the good and evil to solve the selfish society problem 

in love? 

The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. God saw the earth, 

and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. God said to 

Noah, “I will bring an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, 

I will destroy them and the earth. 

(Gen 6:11-13) 

This is the opposite of the Kingdom of God based on Love. Instead the freedom to choose 

led them in their choice of selfishnesss to a world built on competition - ‘Everyone trying to 

subjugate the other’ - dog-eating-dog democracy.

THE FLOOD 

But the period of the flood it was much worse, because of the 1000 year life span and the large 

population at the end of 1600 years.

We can imagine the hell produced with all the crimes. 

A loving God could not suffer this to go 

on. The immediate solution was to start afresh with a reduced life span. Hence all of 10 

trillion except Noah’s family were put to sleep. 

The population map shows a sudden fall of the life span to around 100 or less 

today. 

Again the whole purpose of God was to reduce the period of this hell to a minimum until He 

can bring them to the Kingdom of God. Until then they will all have a sound sleep. 

The purpose of the flood was given to man encoded in the names of the patriarchs as given in 

the Bible. 

“Man is appointed to mortal sorrow but the blessed God shall come down teaching his death 

shall bring the despairing comfort.”

XV 

ORIGINAL SIN 

One of the direct sin committed by Adam and Eve consisted of disobedience to the 

commandment ‘not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. 

This act was done on the freewill of both Adam and Eve. 

The effect eating of the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil is not specifically spelled out. 

One of the effects was that “their eyes were open” which would mean they had a wider 

understanding of the pros and cons of their choices. 

Gen 3:7 Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. 

They knew indicating the glaring awareness of life situation. They were spiritually alive and in 

clear consciousness of their sin and situation. 

Original sin may be taken to mean: 

the sin that Adam committed; 

a consequence of this first sin committed by father Adam and mother Eve, the children 

carried the heredity. 

St. Augustine's statement: "the deliberate sin of the first man is the cause of original sin" (De 

nupt. et concup., II, xxvi, 43). . 

Theodorus of Mopsuestia opened this controversy by denying that the sin of Adam was the 

origin of death. (See the "Excerpta Theodori", by Marius Mercator; cf. Smith, "A Dictionary of

Celestius, a friend of Pelagius, was the first in the West to hold these propositions, borrowed 

from Theodorus: "Adam was to die in every hypothesis, whether he sinned or did not sin. His 

sin injured himself only and not the human race" (Mercator, "Liber Subnotationem", preface). 

This, the first position held by the Pelagians, was also the first point condemned at Carthage 

(Denzinger, "Enchiridion", no 101-old no. 65). 

This assertion of course was true because Adam and Eve had not tasted the fruit of the tree of 

life. It was for this reason God drove them out so that they may not live for ever and suffer 

the consequence of the eating of the fruit of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil by 

Adam and Eve and hence the rest of the family which fell under the struggle for self existence 

and a society based on selfishness. 

Catholics cited especially Romans 5:12, where Adam is shown as transmitting death with sin. 

Since Adam did not eat of the tree of life Adam and his progeny were under the blessing of 

death. 

The tendency of the original sin committed by the parents Adam and Eve were 

transmitted through DNA to all generations. 

What was transmitted was the knowledge of 

good and evil and with the total freedom of choice which they showed with which they chose 

to eat the fruit, they were also transmitted through generations.

This is because of this that God stipulated the punishment of sins: 

Thus we have two generic 

Exodus 34:7 

Keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will 

by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the 

children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.” 

Again it is repeated in 

Numbers 14:18 

‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and 

transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the

children, to the third and the fourth generation.’

By proper choice of choosing good, the transmitted tendency to sin inherited can be stopped 

and changed. 

Which would mean that we still have the choice of freedom. 

Even Marx was able to discover this freedom in man: 

“The animal is immediately one with its life activity. It is not distinct from that activity; it is that 

activity. Man makes his life activity itself an object of his will and consciousness. He has 

conscious life activity. It is not a determination with which he directly merges. Conscious life 

activity directly distinguishes man from animal life activity. Only because of that is he a 

species-being. Or, rather, he is a conscious being – i.e., his own life is an object for him, only 

because he is a species-being. Only because of that is his activity free activity. Estranged 

labour reverses the relationship so that man, just because he is a conscious being, makes his 

life activity, his essential being, a mere means for his existence.” 

“Man is a species-being, not only because he practically and theoretically makes the species – 

both his own and those of other things – his object, but also – and this is simply another way 

of saying the same thing – because he looks upon himself as the present, living species, 

because he looks upon himself as a universal and therefore free being.” 

It is this freedom that led to the following ruling statements: 

Deuteronomy 24:16 

“Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death 

because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin. 

Ezekiel 18:19-20 

“Yet you say, ‘Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has 

done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely 

live. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the 

father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon 

himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. 

What is important to note here is that even though there is the tendency to sin inherited, the 

freedom to choose the right is also given to every generation. Thus the children are 

responsible only for their actions’

Notice also that the the transmission of death to all generation is a continued blessing of God 

until total redemption can be achieved through the second Adam. 

1 Corinthians 15:21: "For by a man came death and by a man the resurrection of the dead". 

However churches seems to assert that man because of his sin has been punished with the 

death of the soul, which is nowhere found in the bible. God in his mercy not only granted 

death to the body to avoid eternal hell, but never ceased to be gracious to his children. God 

was there to hear the complaint of the murderer Cain. God continued to talk to his children 

through prophets. In every generation there were the righteous who held the responsibility. 

St. Augustine already cited, "the deliberate sin of the first man is the cause of original sin". 

This principle is developed by St. Anselm: "the sin of Adam was one thing but the sin of 

children at their birth is quite another, the former was the cause, the latter is the effect" (De 

conceptu virginali, xxvi). In a child original sin is distinct from the fault of Adam, it is one of its 

effects. 

Death and Suffering.- These are purely physical evils and cannot be called sin but both are 

the consequence of sin. But individual is is a personal matter. "There can be no sin that is not 

voluntary, the learned and the ignorant admit this evident truth", writes St. Augustine (De vera 

relig., xiv, 27). 

Further the religious hierarchy has developed the theory of baptism of infants to wash away 

this transmitted sin. While physical washing can be a symbol of washing away how it can 

wash away sins will remain a problem. While baptism is a ritual of being a member of the 

family of church and assures the care of the church and its families, how it can be a magic to 

wash away sins cannot be understood. If sanctification comes from knowing God, it will have 

to come as the child grow through instructions and exercise of the power of the Holy Spirit. 

Baptism may be an initiation for it on the faith of the parents it cannot wash away DNA 

heritage. The only saving factor is the freewill with which Adam himself acted that is 

transmitted to all mankind.

Ezekiel 18:19-20 

“Yet you say, ‘Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has 

done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely 

live. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the 

father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon 

himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. 

There are two types of sins. Personal sins that a person commits voluntarily with his or her 

freewil and the Sins that are committed as part of the society which I call social sin. The 

competition and power struggle creates social structures that are exploiting others treat them 

without love. caste and class structures are examples of this. In fact behavior persons are 

formed by the society in which they live. 

"An individual can be considered either as an individual or as part of a whole, a member 

of a society . . . . Considered in the second way an act can be his although he has not done it 

himself, nor has it been done by his free will but by the rest of the society or by its head, the 

nation being considered as doing what the prince does. For a society is considered as a single 

man of whom the individuals are the different members (St. Paul, 1 Corinthians 12). Thus the 

multitude of men who receive their human nature from Adam is to be considered as a single 

community or rather as a single body . . . . If the man, whose privation of original justice is due 

to Adam, is considered as a private person, this privation is not his 'fault', for a fault is 

essentially voluntary. If, however, we consider him as a member of the family of Adam, as if all 

men were only one man, then his privation partakes of the nature of sin on account of its 

voluntary origin, which is the actual sin of Adam" (De Malo, iv, 1). 

It is this law of solidarity, admitted by common sentiment, which attributes to children a part of 

the shame resulting from the father's crime. It is not a personal crime, but it is paternal crime" 

(Augustine, Op. imperf., I, cxlviii). Being a distinct person I am not strictly responsible for the 

crime of another; the act is not mine. Yet, as a member of the human family, I am supposed to 

have acted with its head who represented it with regard to the conservation or the loss of 

grace. I am, therefore, responsible for my privation of grace, taking responsibility in the largest 

sense of the word. This, however, is enough to make the state of privation of grace in a certain 

degree voluntary, and, therefore, "without absurdity it may be said to be voluntary" (St.

Augustine, "Retract.", I, xiii).

In spite of the bondage of society, the free will of each individual which Adam demonstrated 

with such positive strength in eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil 

remains with every individual. Just as any other characteristics and moral traits are 

transmitted genetically, the character of free will is also transmitted genetically. Those who 

are brave enough takes this freedom to transform and reform society through the ages.

O DEATH WHERE IS THY STING? 

God created the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day. 

All of God's creations were “good” 

“For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it; 

He hath established it, He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there 

is none else” (Isa.45:18). 

Evidently earth was created for the inhabitance of man. When God wanted to place his Son Adam, 

He specially selected an area which was called Eden. The first inhabitation took place in this Eden 

and in a Garden towards the East of Eden where he placed Adam and Eve. The garden of Eden 

was thus a special place within earth. Man was made to till and to keep this earth where we live and 

man’s destiny is bound with earth. 

When God drove man out of the Garden of Eden he began to occupy the rest of the earth. It is this 

life that became hell for mankind because of the selfishness of man as the inherited original sin. 

Heaven and Hell are experienced as we live with all the three body, mind and soul. It is this hell life 

God in his love and mercy reduced to less than 1/10 of God’s day (less than 100 years) by allowing 

them to sleep. Death is the sleep of God’s children.

Entropy is a thermodynamic concept which corresponds to the order of the system. Thus if a body 

decay and die we call that the system increases in entropy. All physical systems considered as a 

closed system increases in entropy. However Life is the Spiritual system which contained in a 

physical system orders the system as the system undergoes decay. If the Spiritual Life has a 

continuous availability of flow of energy, life will continue.

Eph 1:13-14 you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the 

redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory. 

(Rev. 22:14) "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life 

and that they may enter the city by the gates." 

The Bible compares death to sleep more than fifty times. When we are asleep, we are unconscious; 

we are not aware of the passing of time or of what is going on around us. That is what death is like as 

well. 

Bible verses that use sleep, as a metaphor for Death: 

Jn 11:11-14 "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awaken him out of sleep." 

The disciples therefore said to Him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover." Now Jesus had 

spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep. Then Jesus therefore said 

to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead". 

Ps 90:5 Thou hast swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep 

Mt 9:24 He began to say, "the girl has not died, but is asleep." And they began laughing at Him. 

Mt 27:52 tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;

flourishs...it is gone, and its place remembers it no more” (Ps. 103:14-16).

Believers knew that after death they would be unable to praise and glorify God, seeing that death was 

a state of unconsciousness- e.g. Hezekiah (Is. 38:17-19) and David (Ps. 6:4,5; 30:9; 39:13; 115:17) 

“(Man’s) spirit (breath K.J.V.) departs, he returns to his earth; in that very day (moment) his plans 

perish” (Ps. 146:4). 

“The dead know nothing...their love, their hatred, and their envy is now perished” (Ecc. 9:5,6). There 

is no “wisdom in the grave” (Ecc. 9:10) - no thinking and therefore no consciousness. 

Job says that on death, he would be “as though he had not been” (Job 10:18-19); he saw death as 

the oblivion, unconsciousness and total lack of existence which we had before we were born. 

These seem to indicate that death is the end of man 

At least that will be for some as the following verse seems to show: 

Jeremiah 51:57 "I will make her princes and her wise men drunk, Her governors, her prefects and her 

mighty men, That they may sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake up," Declares the King, whose 

name is the LORD of hosts.

This seems to indicate a resprouting of the dead who are asleep with a new body - 

reincarnations or resurrections or “souls rolling through time” 

Hebrew term for this type of series of life (which could be thought of as a type of reincarnation) is 

gilgul, “rolling,” that is, the soul “rolls” through time from one body to a renewed body. This process 

will repeat until the soul is perfected when it returns to be with the Lord. Until the coming of the 

Messiah the atonement will have to be done by each soul. Messiah will be able to provide 

atonement once and for all to all those who believe and identify with him. 

The earliest [non-Karaite] reference to this doctrine is that of Saadiah [882-942AD] (Beliefs and 

Opinions, vi. 8). Maimonides' 13 Principles of Faith. Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), teaches a belief 

in gilgul, transmigration of souls, and hence the belief is universal in Hasidic Judaism, which regards 

the Kabbalah as sacred and authoritative. But not all traditions accepts this interpretation. 

Eph 2:6-8

There is a resurrection 

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are 

asleep. 

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are 

asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died 

and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we 

say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will 

not precede those who have fallen asleep. 

Dreaming is a conscious activity while asleep. 

"Yet in the same manner these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh" Jude 8 

"Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night." Ps 16:7 

Examine closely these three parallel verses: 

"whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him." 1 Th 5:10 

How do you live together with the Lord when you are dead? 

Obviously there is conscious existence after death! 

For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 

Rom 14:9 

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to Him." Lk 20:38 

Jesus refuted the Sadducees by proving that the dead are not extinct, but continue to exist. 

God is the God of Abraham right now, because Abraham consciously exists!

What happens to your soul when you die? 

Many Christians think of the soul as an immortal entity within us that goes on living after death. What 

does the Bible say? Describing the creation of human beings in the beginning, the Bible says, “And 

the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; 

and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7, KJV). Other Bible translations say, “. . . and man 

became a living being” (NKJV; NIV). God did not put a soul into man. He formed the body from the 

dust of the ground, and then He breathed His life-giving spirit into the lifeless body—and the result 

was a soul, or a living being. When a person dies, the reverse takes place. The breath of life departs 

from the body, and the soul no longer exists. That’s what the Bible says. “The dust returns to the 

ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7, NIV). At the 

resurrection, God reunites the body and His life-giving spirit—and the person lives again. 

If souls existed as separate entities that lived on after we died, that would mean we have immortality. 

However, the Bible says human beings do not have immortality. Only God is immortal (see 1 Timothy 

6:15, 16). Paul says that the righteous “seek for glory, honor, and immortality” (Romans 2:7). If we 

had immortal souls, why would the righteous seek after something they already have? 

Is there life after death? 

Though we may die, Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though 

he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25). 

We will receive immortality when Jesus comes again (see 1 Corinthians 15:51-54). 

The Bible says that all those who have died—both righteous and wicked—will be raised to life in one 

of two resurrections. 

The righteous will be raised to life at Jesus’ second coming. 

“ For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and 

with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NKJV). 

According to this verse, the righteous do not to go heaven when they die. They remain asleep in the 

grave until Jesus returns and raises them to immortal life (see 1 Corinthians 15:50-57).

The wicked are raised to life in a separate resurrection—the resurrection of condemnation. Jesus said, 

“Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and 

come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to 

the resurrection of condemnation.” (John 5:28, 29, NKJV). 

The prophets never mention in the Bible that the righteous immediately go to heaven or the wicked go 

to hell when they die. Neither did Jesus and His apostles teach it. When Jesus was about to leave His 

disciples, He did not tell them they would soon come to Him. 

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are 

many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.And if I go and 

prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may 

be also.” (John 14:1-3, NKJV). 

When He returns, our loved ones asleep in Christ will awake from their tombs. No matter how long 

the time has passed, be it long or short, will be but a moment to them. By the voice of Jesus, they are 

called forth from their deep slumber they will begin to think just where they ceased, awakening to a 

glorious immortality. 

“For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible…So when this corruptible has 

put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying 

that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’” 

“O Death, where is your sting? 

O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55). 

At his return, Christ “will transform our lowly body, that it may be conformed to his glorious body” (Phil. 

3:20,21). Those who have died and decomposed to dust will “awake and sing” (Is. 26:19). 

Through baptism we associate ourselves with Christ’s death and resurrection, showing our belief that 

we too will share the reward which he received through his resurrection (Rom. 6:3-5). 

Through sharing in his sufferings now, we will also share his reward: “carrying about (now) in the 

body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jeus also may be manifested in our body” (2 Cor. 

4:10). 

“He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit” (Rom. 

8:11). With this hope, we therefore wait for “the redemption of our body” (Rom. 8:23), through that

My redeemer lives, and...shall stand at last on the earth: and after my skin is destroyed, ... in my flesh 

(or bodily form) I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not 

another. How my heart yearns within me!” (Job 19:25-27). 

Isaiah’s hope was identical: “My dead body shall...arise” (Is. 26:19). 

“Your brother will rise again…Martha said to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at 

the last day” (Jn. 11:23,24). 

“Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father...I will raise him up at the last day” (Jn. 

6:44,45).
