EXPLORING CANADA AND BEYOND
Canada is a beautiful country with many diverse areas — take some time to
explore it on university breaks. Travelling across the country is relatively safe, but
always notify someone where you are going and when you’ll return to Waterloo.
Remember to take your identification with you when going on a major trip.
If you plan to travel outside Canada during your studies, look into which
immigration documents you’ll need to enter those countries. If you require a visa,
you may need to apply well in advance.
If you need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to re-enter Canada, make sure that
yours is still valid for your return date. If you need a new one, you can apply in
Canada, receiving it before you leave. Alternatively you may apply for a new
TRV in your home country before you return to Canada or Electronic Travel
Authorization (eTA) to re-enter Canada, make sure yours is valid at the time
of re-entry. If you need a new one, you can apply within Canada. Alternatively
you may apply for a new TRV or eTA in your home country before you return
to Canada.
When you return to Canada, you’ll also need to present your passport and
study permit. We recommend that you carry a copy of your Letter of Enrolment
(confirmation that you are a UWaterloo student) and proof of financial support
(i.e. bank statement or letter from your sponsor).
