and you may have to settle for a chicken take-away made famous
by some colonel or other. Perhaps that is not such a bad idea after
all - a romantic picnic on the beach with a glass of wine to round off
the fling, weather permitting, could be just the thing.
THE 48-HOUR LOVE AFFAIR
You’ll know this is something worth cherishing, with quite a few
new secrets to be shared.
Take things up a notch on day two and introduce some adrenalineproducing
activities into your stay. These are guaranteed to get your
heart pumping and feeling very alive.
An easy, quick rush is derived from sand boarding – but some hard
work also goes into it. Here’s a quick description: you labour to
the top of a dune (taking anywhere from 5 minutes to eternity);
after you get your breath back again, you strap on a snow board;
and then, depending on your skill level, either smoothly speed or
cartwheel down the dune, the latter style not being intentional. You
then repeat this cycle until your allotted time or energy expires. In
any case, a sandy thrill is had by all. Warning: you may leave a trail
of sand wherever you go for days afterwards.
Alternately, the serious adrenaline junkies can take off to the local
aerodrome, hop on a plane and throw themselves out into the big
blue. This is of course done under the supervision of professionals
who will ensure you don’t do anything foolish (except jump out of
a plane from a great height). The whole event is also filmed and
photographed so that you can replay or witness your plummet
through the sky for years to come.
If remaining firmly planted on terra firma is more your style, book
a quad bike excursion into the dunes for some fun and thrills and
you can even double up the fun factor with some sand boarding
thrown in.
The beauty of the above activities are that they vary in duration and
you can mix and match them to suite your mood and energy level.
Also they are all within easy reach of town.
Round off the day by choosing a different restaurant and maybe
order something you have not tried before … either way, memories
are bound to have been made.
THE 72-HOUR ROMANCE – (you practically get to meet
the parents on this one)
Your third day should see you taking things a little easier as we are
tempted to do when we know it’s our last day before moving on.
Maybe some reflective leisurely activities should be the order of the
day.
For those into fishing, book or undertake your own fishing trip
along the coast, but make sure you have a license to do so (ask your
receptionist to help). Boat-based fishing trips are also available and
can make for some rewarding fishing. It’s the perfect way to reflect
on your stay so far.
For a laid-back urban experience, start the day by having some
famous German-brew coffee in town, then browse the bookstores
and curio shops, take in a tour of the town, followed by a light lunch.
As an alternative, why not round off your stay in Swakop (by now
familiarity allows you to call her by her shortened name), by booking
