This month saw EXPRESS TRAILERS
supporting triathlete David Galea in
his participation at one of the most
gruelling Ironman competitions,
KONA 2016 in Hawaii. These past
few years have seen Express Trailers
forge a very close relation with sport.
FRANCO AZZOPARDI, Chairman and
CEO of Express Trailers explains
what drives a logistics company
towards supporting sport.
MBR: Why has Express Trailers chosen to
support sport in Malta?
FA: We do not support any sport but we
strike partnerships with those athletes
who mostly train on the road. Our
company’s operations are mainly based
on road transport and this has sensitized
us to the fact that people may perceive
us as a disruption on the roads. Runners
and cyclists on Malta’s roads are equally
vulnerable and therefore, we feel that our
support towards these athletes can be a
way of promoting more responsible road
sharing with the public.
MBR: How does all this fit in with your
company’s corporate agenda?
FA: First there is CSR. We fully acknowledge
our duty towards the populace, the planet
and all stakeholders as these are also our
longer term investment that will make
our company endure. Secondly, we also
look at our own employees who play an
important role in securing the growth of
our business. We want them to look at
athletes as an inspiration in their journey
of self-development. We do not just
expect them to deliver. We wish for them
to become better persons because better
and stronger persons lead to a better and
stronger company.
MBR: Which sport have you supported
over the past few years?
FA: We have built a very strong relationship
with the Zurrieq Wolves Athletic Club
and this year will see us sponsoring their
Zurrieq Half Marathon events for the
fourth time. Meanwhile however, we have
also supported a team of four climbers in
their challenge to climb Mount Everest, we
provide logistical suppot to the LifeCycle
team in their annual trips round Europe
and this year, we also commenced a
three-year sponsorship with the Mellieħa
Athletics Club and the Mosta Cycling Club.

MBR: This month saw you sponsor
triathlete David Galea’s trip to Kona
2016.
FA: Yes. We have supported David through
logistics and his trip to Kona in Hawaii.
Athletes from all over the world compete
in various qualifying events to be able
to enter this competition but only 2% of
them manage to qualify. Qualifying for
a competition like Kona 2016 is already
an achievement in itself and this is why
Express Trailers has agreed to sponsor
David Galea’s trip to Hawaii by supporting
the logistics involved in getting him and his
equpment all the way to Kona.

MBR: How does this latest sponsorship
fit in with your overall company
philosophy?
FA: At Express Trailers, we want Endurance
to shine as a recurring theme. We
constantly strive and manage to meet the
high standards we have reached but it

that secure the business. Therefore,
sponsoring an athlete like David who has
shown great stamina to qualify for KONA
2016 is an inspiration to us all, and to our
