My Hero Day
Continued from Front Page...
She said My Hero Day was all
about thanking and honoring
those officials and persons
who dedicate themselves to
the care of children in need
and for their contribution towards
the care and protection
'It is on this day that we pledge
our deepest gratitude to these
persons for the support and
commitment they have extended
to Kuselo CYCC and
the children within our care by
presenting them with a honorary
certificate in gratitude for
their contribution,' says
Amanda.Due to prior commitments
many departments and
organisations could not attend,
but extended their apologies
for non attendance,
their certificates will be handed
over to them personally in
due course. 'We wish to
Stolen Parts
A Blonde calls 911 on her cell
phone to report that her car has
been broken into. She is hysterical
as she explains her situation to
the dispatcher: "They've stolen
the stereo, the steering wheel, the
radios in. "Disregard." he says.
"She got in the back-seat by
mistake."
Deer Crossing
Recently a new neighbor, a blond
haired woman, called the local
township administrative office to
accelerator!" she cries.
The dispatcher says, "Stay calm.
An officer is on the way."
A few minutes later, the officer
Crossing sign on our road.
The reason: too many deer were
being hit by cars and she didn't
want them to cross there anymore
THE South African National
Blood Service (SANBS) has
rallied behind international
movement BE THE 1 Donor
to inspire young people to
become life-long blood and
plasma donors and help save
lives.
This international movement
was conceptualised by a global
healthcare company, Abbott,
which has partnered with
Cristiano Ronaldo in an effort
to respond to the global decline
in the number of new
and young donors.
Ronaldo started donating as
a 24-year-old when he witnessed
one of his teammates
battle with the search for a
stem cell donor for his ailing
son. Seven years later he is
still giving blood regularly.
Currently, South African tertiary
students and learners contribute
about 40 percent to the
national blood reserves – and
supporting them to continue
this as a life-long commitment
is an important objective for
the SANBS.
A recent SANBS study conducted
to determine the motivation
behind the youth’s
choice to give revealed that
there was no powerful singleminded
call-to-action for them
to identify with.
Youth who took part in the
SANBS research recommended
that the blood service
should involve recognisable
influencers in order to personalise
the brand for them.
'This sends out a strong
message to all motorists that
drinking and driving can put
you behind bars and face the
full might of law.'
She said police are urging
motorsists to be responsible
and have warned them that
they will not be sympathetic
to those who break the law.
'Police are warning drivers to
think twice before having that
‘one last drink” before driving,'
said Mawisa.
Police in the King Williams
Town and Izele policing precinct
also arrested more than
twenty (20) suspects on
crimes ranging from Housebreaking
and Theft, Common
Assault, Domestic Violence ,
Robbery, Stock Theft and
Rape.
'The cases were opened
during the weekend and
police followed on information
they received and quickly
arrested the suspects,' said
Mawisa.
All the suspects aged between
18 and 60 years were
due to appear at King Williams
Town and Zwelitsha
Magistrate Court earlier this
week.
King Williams Town Station
Commander Colonel Andile
Lamana thanked the members
for the job well done in
apprehending the motorists
that break the law.
He said the KWT Police and
Traffic officials are committed
and will work diligently to
ensure a crime free environment.
SANBS rallies behind
Ronaldo in blood drive
These requirements are met
well by BE THE 1 Donor
Movement. It is built around
football icon and committed
blood donor, Ronaldo who
represents goodwill and is admired
by young people, but
also employs emotive messaging
that resonates with the
younger generation.
“SANBS is proud to be part of
this movement and we hope
that it will not only put blood
donations on the agenda for
discussion among young people
but that it will also cause
them to take a look in the
mirror and say: ‘I have the
power to save lives and I am
going to use it’,” says SANBS
Marketing Manager Silungile
Mlambo.
The South African campaign,
which launched yesterday,
will recruit local ambassadors
to join Ronaldo including students
and radio and TV personalities.
They will take part
in awareness-raising activations
and be prominent on
social and traditional media
platforms to spread the word
and support the global movement
across South Africa.
“Our donors may or may not
have such personal reasons
for donating as Ronaldo, but
our activations aim to remind
young donors that someone
they might never meet needs
their blood and plasma right
now,” concludes Ms Mlambo.
FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER 2016 THE BUGLE 7
Seniors flats burgled
at BESL
Maths & English
Study Centre
SCALED: Burglars managed to scale these 'burglars bars' to get onto the
balcony of two flats at BESL before entering through a window and stealing
valuables
TWO flats at the BESL Home
in Market Street were burgled
while the occupants were
asleep during last Monday
evening.
The flat of Peter and Diane
Taylor and Pam Halgren and
her sister were hit by burglars
who gained access to the
flats via a front window. Both
flats are on the 1 st floor of the
block and do have have security
bars on the windows.
A resident said it appears as
though the burglars used slat
burglar bars enclosing the verandas
on flats below to gain
access to the balcony of the
two flats.
'They then put there hands
through a fanlight and
opened the window,' said the
resident, adding no one
heard any strange noises.
Once inside the Taylors flat
the intruder helped himself to
the couple's cellphones and
Mrs Taylors handbag which
contained personnel cards
and a purse with cash in it.
They also took Mr Taylors wallet
which he had recently
bought while on a visit to
The Blinking Light
Sixty year old John went on to his
annual checkup. The doctor asked
him if he was still getting up in the
middle of the night and going to the
bathroom.
He replied, "Yes But the lord has
made it much better for me, He turns
on the light when I go and He turns
off the light when I am done".
Scotland.
“He was so proud of the wallet,'
said a resident.
Once the burglary was discovered
Mrs Taylor's handbag
was found on the
balcony – minus her wallet
and a bank card.
“I am a light sleeper but I
heard nothing....my handbag
was next my bed,' said Mrs
Taylor.
Shortly after the first incident
the robbers gained access to
the flat of Pam Halgren and
her sister who is visiting her
in a similar way to the first
incident.
“Both are elderly and in there
eighties and use hearing
aids. Luckily the intruders did
not make of with them,' said
a resident, adding that luckily
there handbags were locked
in a cupboard.
The burglars made off with
two cellphones and and a
packet of cigarettes.
No one was injured but the
residents are 'very traumatized
by the incident,' said a
neighbour.
The doctor replied, "Really"!!!
About and hour after that the doctor
called Johns wife and said: He looks
fine. But he said that God is making it
better for him, when he gets up and
Goes to the bathroom during the
night God turns on and off the light.
She replied, "that old fool he has
been going to the bathroom in the
refrigerator again"
First Candles for
Cancer Charity Night
Run happens tonight.
THE KWT Golf Club will be
hosting
the
inaugural Candles for Cancer
charity run this evening with
a Halloween theme.
'The event will become an
annual event and each year
all funds raised will be donated
to a person from the King
Community (or Ex Kingite )
who is battling cancer,' said
organiser Mike Webb.
He said the thought behind
the race came from a group
of friends of ex Kingite Karen
Nel (nee Roberts ) who is
battling with Cancer for the
second time in 6 years and it
was suggested that he (Mike)
organize a race to raise much
needed funds to assist Karen.
Mike thought this was a great
idea and decided to make it
an annual event for the
community.
Having beaten Breast Cancer
in 2010, Karen started
experiencing back pain earlier
this year and was sadly
diagnosed with Bone cancer.
'She has been undergoing
Chemo for the last 6 months
and is steadily improving,
however the bills are piling
up and her Medical aid has
been depleted for the year.
'All proceeds from this years
event will go to Karen to settle
these bills and take the strain
off her and her family,' said
Mike.
Karen worked for Star Motors
for many years and matriculated
from KHS in 1986.
Race organizer Mike has
decided on a Halloween
theme for the event and to
hold it at night on the same
route as the Parkrun .
The route will be 5 kms and
can be walked or run . All
participants are urged to
dress up and some great
prizes have been arranged .
Registration starts at 5pm .
Pre entries can be done at
Buffalo Toyota KWT. R50 per
entry .
Boerewors rolls will be on
sale and the bar will be open
as well.
'Come and make a Night of
it,' requested Mike.
Thank you Grey Hospital
I want to thank and applaud Grey Hospital staff for being
there for me in my time of need.
On Thursday October 6, 2016 a freak accident happened in
my house when a young man on a bottle and it ripped a
gaping wound to his knee and he bled profusely.
On arrival at Grey Hospital I was amazed at how everyone
from Tyeks Security personel and the doctor on duty and
nursing staff.
Without their promptness we could be telling a different story
today. The receptions clerks were so helpful in filling in
documentation because they could see I was in shock.
A big thank you to Dr Yusuf whom I was told is the CEO of the
hospital. I was humbled by his humility.
May God bless them all in abundance. How I pray that we
I can't keep quit.
Thank you to the staff and SGB of Manezi Primary School
situated in Zwelitsha in Zone 1 just outside King Williams Town.
It is not far from the taxi rank near the robots. I have been a
parent for a long time.
Now its the time to show appreciation for what has been done
for our community at Zwelitsha, Sweetwaters, Thatshu, Pakamisa,
Mlakalaka and others.
I wish I had written this article in August which was Woman's
Month as the principal is Mrs Sauka.
The school has two classes which are prefab structures which
were sponsored by Old Mutual.
They are busy building two classrooms computer rooms. So
we will have computers as well!
Monezi caters for learners from Grade RR up to Grade 7.
Results every years are good along with sport and music.
With secure fencing our children are safe at school.
Well done Mrs Sanka, SGB staff and parents of Mannezi.
Keep it up.
said a Kingspark resident.
Philipp said: 'I have got the
After meeting, Rita did all
the travelling to Stutterheim
to visit Philipp.
'I went to Stutterheim on one
occasion to visit the nursery
but I never got there as
Philipp proposed and we
married on June 14, 1890 at
I feel well and am in the Bethany Emmanuel
He he has fallen and broken
both hips and had to use a
Philipp was born at Welcomewood
life,' he concludes.
FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER 2016 THE BUGLE 13
Rademeyer elected NSPCA
chairman of NSPCA
THE AGM of the NSPCA was
held in Johannesburg this
past weekend. 140 delegates
attended from all over South
Africa.
The various units presented
their reports on the activities
of the NSPCA over the past
year. Certificates were also
handed over to inspectors,
senior inspectors and field
officers who qualified over the
past year.
'It makes one very proud to
be part of a movement that
has accomplished so much
on a national basis for animals,'
said NSPCA chairperson
Annette Rademeyer.
'Each SPCA is autonomous
and is responsible for raising
their own funds, employing
their own staff and funding
their operations.'
The NSPCA has independent
units such as the farm animal
protection units, the research
ethics unit, the liaison unit,
the wildlife unit special investigations
and special projects.
Each of these units specialises
in their area of expertise.
They liaise with Government,
national departments and
various industries in order to
amend and update standards
and codes and generally to
improve the conditions under
which animals are kept,
slaughtered, and treated.
The NSPCA has given pig
farmers until January 2017 to
phase out sow crates for
example. Any farmers who
use sow crates and do not
provide communal housing
for pigs by this date, will be
prosecuted.
The national units also inspect
prisons where dogs are
kept and poultry and pigs are
reared for slaughter, they
inspect the K9 units of the
SAPS and various intensive
farming systems are also
regularly inspected and the
necessary action taken –
saleyards, power pulling
events and any industry
where animals are used
whether it be for food, entertainment,
sport or other, are
inspected.
'A board meeting was held on
the Sunday and the board
Rademeyer as chairperson
for another year.
'I was re-elected as the
Chairman for this coming
year. There are many
challenges that need to be
overcome and a lot of work
that needs to be done for the
welfare of the animals in this
country.
'The cruelty seems to be
getting worse and worse year
on year and people come up
with the most diabolical ways
to ill treat and torture animals.
'The SPCA is the only voice
that they have – who will
speak out for them?
'I encourage the public to
support their local SPCA’s –
We are literally on the thin
blue line for animals.' concluded
Rademeyer.
SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY
WINNERS: The Johannesburg bowling team who won the Border Bowls
U19 Festival staged at the King Bowling Club
YOUNG bowlers some as
young as 11, 12 and 13
showed there skills when the
Border Bowls U19 Festival
was staged from last Thursday
to Saturday.
Following three days of tough
bowling played at the King
William’s Town, Typos and
Comrades Bowling clubs it
was the Johannesburg B
team who for the second year
walked away as winners.
Under the guidance of manager
Alan Gordon they showed
their superiority by emerging
unbeaten from eight games
on 14 points – a magnificent
effort.
The Johannesburg A side
placed second on 12 points
having suffered their only loss
to a jubilant Dale College A
team skipped by Josh Turner.
The Dale A team of Turner,
Andrew Lentz, Dillon Kreusch
and Ethan Grunewald who
placed third overall on nine
points, clicked as a side to
win 14-3, providing the biggest
shock of the tournament
on Friday.
However on Saturday morning
in their final game they
were brought down to earth
with a bump when against the
Invitation side they went down
8-9 after being peels at 8-8
going into the final end.
Earlier that morning Dale had
a lucky escape against Cambridge
High A when going
into the final end they trailed
2-8.
With most of their bowls lying
to the left and behind, the
jack was moved enabling
Dale to pick up seven shots
for a narrow 9-8 win.
At the prizegiving, Gordon
encouraged all the bowlers
to dedicate themselves to
bowls, saying many of them
had a bright future.
Border’s head of development
Brian McLean thanked
the clubs for the use of their
facilities and Border Bowls
for their financial aid.
He praised the youngsters
for their wonderful spirit and
the way they all played the
game.
Border Bowls president Pieter
Lombard said it had been
a pleasure to host the young
players and also encouraged
them to keep on playing.
