Management
of cross-company functions
Euler Hermes has a matrix-type management
organisation, of which the cross-functional
managers on the one hand, and
managers of subsidiaries, on the other, are
the cornerstone.
Cross-functional managers and managers
of subsidiaries implement the strategy
determined by the Group Management
Board and report to its members on their
specific responsibilities.
The Euler Hermes Management Committee is
composed of members of the Group
Management Board and the Managers of the
Strategy, Risk, Sales and Marketing, Finance
and Accounting, and Information Technology
cross-functional departments. It meets about
once a month. Its task is to review business
activity and projects in progress and determine
the action to be taken. It works on the
basis of the Group reports drawn up by Group
management control.
Cross-company functions are managed by:
Elias Abou-Mansour (*) : Information
Technology
Each local entity is managed by a Chief
Environmental responsibility
The impact of a company’s activities on the
environment is a key element that must be
taken into account in every aspect of its
strategic thinking.
These concerns have been taken into
account in general insurance operations,
but the issues are less obvious for a credit
insurance activity, which, by nature, has
only a limited impact on the environment.
However, the Group has taken steps to
increase awareness and responsibility and
the many cost reduction measures implemented
involve more efficient use of
human resources, equipment and natural
resources.
In our business, direct consumption of
water and energy resources is limited.
Accordingly, no specific organisation has
been set up within the Group to handle
accidental pollution that could have consequences
outside the company.
However, electrical and heating equipment
is regularly reviewed and replaced so that
it complies with the required standards in
terms of safety, consumption and comfort.
The electrical transformers are being
replaced at Euler Hermes SFAC.
In view of the activity carried out by the
Group, utilisation of the ground or the production
of waste that could contaminate
the water, air or ground, are minimal or
non-existent. The Group’s choice of suppliers
takes into account their commitment to
collecting and treating the equipment at
the end of its life cycle; in some subsidiaries,
notably in Belgium, waste is systematically
sorted for recycling. Certain
consumables are recycled, notably ink cartridges
for photocopiers.
Consumption of paper is a major concern
for the company. Several million items of
mail are sent by Group companies, and millions
of computer printouts are made each
year.
Over the last few years, the Group has
developed direct or Internet-based computer
links (EOLIS among others) with its
clients thus enabling rapid, precise and
inexpensive daily communication.
