Pilgrim-made crosses like these
adorned almost every fence we passed
along the route. Archetypally, the
cross is quite the powerful symbol --
representing the union of God, the self,
and the Soul (along the vertical axis) that
a person attains in every moment of
raw gratitude (the left) felt during every
act of joyful self-sacrifice (the right).

Amidst a sea of pilgrim-made
crosses, we found a lone circle —
some would say the feminine within
the masculine … I would say the
Divine that is felt all around us,
within the Divine that is merely seen
as ―above‖ or ―below‖.
