• A crowd of 10,892, the largest ever at the Convocation<br />

Center, watched the Red Wolves defeat the<br />

University of Arkansas 98-84 in the 2005 Women’s National<br />

Invitation Tournament (WNIT).<br />

• A-State has posted an undefeated mark at the Convocation<br />

Center three times: 1988-89 (14-0), 1990-91<br />

(13-0) and 2010-11 (13-0).<br />

• The Clopton Clinic Strength and Conditioning Room<br />

was unveiled in the summer of 2008, featuring new<br />

weights, lighting, floor and wall coverings and entrance<br />

doors.<br />

• The A-State men’s basketball program has amassed<br />

a 284-115 (.712 winning pct.) at the Convocation Center.<br />

• Prior to the 2009-10 season, the men’s basketball,<br />

women’s basketball and women’s volleyball locker<br />

rooms along with the film room were renovated.<br />

• The basketball court was resurfaced and repainted<br />

prior to the 2014-15 season, featuring the large Red<br />

Wolves logo at center court and A-State logos just outside<br />

the two lane areas. The new Sun Belt Conference<br />

logos were painted in each lane the summer of 2013.<br />

• A newly-integrated video display system was installed<br />

at the Convocation Center in October of 2013.<br />

The display system, manufactured by Daktronics, consists<br />

of four identical LED video displays measuring 12<br />

feet high by 26 feet wide mounted in each of the arena’s<br />

four corners.<br />

• Official opening of the Convocation Center was July<br />

11, 1987, with the National AAU 17-and-under boys<br />

basketball championships. Team Acadiana of Louisiana<br />

defeated the Arkansas Wings 87-68 in the first game<br />

and Joe Harvell of the Arkansas Wings scored the first<br />

points.<br />

• The multi-purpose indoor arena seats 10,038 for<br />

basketball games and 11,704 for concerts.<br />

• The Convocation Center facility was completed in<br />

1987 and took three years at cost of $19 million, $15.3<br />

million of which was provided by the state.<br />

• The first public event at the Convocation Center was<br />

A-State Commencement ceremonies in May of 1987.<br />

• The first A-State women’s contest held at the Convocation<br />

Center occurred versus Indiana State on Nov.<br />

30, 1987. A-State defeated Indiana State 70-63 with<br />

A-State’s Charlotte Fields scoring the first points.<br />

• The first A-State men’s games held at the Convocation<br />

Center was against Memphis on Dec. 5, 1987. The<br />

Tigers defeated A-State 60-59 in front of 10,766 fans.<br />

Sylvester Gray of Memphis scored the first points in<br />

the game and Bobby Collins scored the first points for<br />

A-State.<br />

• Over the Summer of 2015, crews finished the installation<br />

of all new chair back seating and railing throughout<br />

the Convocation Center.<br />
