SUPPORT STAFF STAFF KOY GARMATH Graduate Assistant | 2nd Season Arkansas, 2015 Koy Garmath is in his second season as a graduate assistant for the A-State men's basketball program. In his first season with the Red Wolves, Garmath assisted with daily operations and video services. As video coordinator, he created video edits for pregame, practice and postgame use for players and coaches. His video cuts are essential assets of the staff's teaching and motivational tools. Prior to Arkansas State, Garmath was a student manager at the University of Arkansas where he earned his bachelor's of science in education. As a manager, he assisted in practice and game assignments for managerial staff and also assisted the coaching staff with filming and breakdown of game tape. Garmath will graduate in spring of 2017 with a master's degree in physical education. JOSH PIERRE Graduate Assistant | 1st Season Arkansas State, 2015 Josh Pierre joined the Arkansas State Men’s Basketball program in the summer of 2016. Prior to joining McCasland’s staff, Pierre was a four year letterwinner (2012-2016) for the Red Wolves under then head coach John Brady. During his first two seasons, the Red Wolves earned a Western Division Championship (2012-2013) and compiled back-to-back to 19 win seasons for the first time in 24 years. Pierre competed in 44 contests over his for four years and lead the nation in minutes per game among walk-on players at 13.2 mpg during conference play of his senior season. In addition to being named to the Sunbelt Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Directors Honor Roll and Deans List, Pierre was also voted “Best Teammate” by his teammates and coaching staff each season as a student-athlete. Pierre graduated from Arkansas State in December of 2015 with a B.S. in Sport Management, and is now pursuing his M.S. in Sport Administration. Pierre is also a Pike Alumni. He served as the fraternities Spiritual Chair each year as a member, and is a recipient of the Dr. Warren and Lu L. Nedrow Scholarship for Distinguished Alumni. Pierre is the son of Butch and Clemmie Pierre. His father, Butch Pierre, is in his first season as the Assistant Head Coach at NC State. Pierre’s father also started at point guard four seasons at Mississippi State (1980-1984). His mother, Clemmie, graduated from the University of Kentucky. His twin brother, Joe Pierre, is currently is a Graduate Assistant for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Pierre also has a sister, Langley, who is a high school teacher and graduated from Louisiana State University. His father and sister both have Master's degrees in Education. PHIL BAIER Strength & Conditioning | 2nd Season Springfield, 2013 Phil Baier joined Arkansas State University strength and conditioning department as an assistant director in July of 2015. He is responsible for the development and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for the men’s basketball team and men's and women's track and field championship teams, while assisting with the football program. Prior to joining Arkansas State, Baier served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Southeast Missouri State University. During his time at SEMO, Baier was responsible for all aspects of strength and conditioning for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, tennis, and assisting with the football program. He was also the founder of the Redhawk Performance Camp, a summer strength and conditioning camp for middle and high school athletes. Before SEMO, Baier served as a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Southern California in 2013. He was responsible for developing the training programs for the women’s crew team and assisted with the men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s water polo, baseball, women’s basketball, women’s tennis, women’s golf and women’s sand volleyball programs. In 2012, Baier was a strength and conditioning intern at Harvard University, where he assisted with the programs for the football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s ice hockey, field hockey and men’s and women’s basketball teams. Baier was a four-year letterman from 2009-12 as a wide receiver at Springfield College, earning honorable mention Liberty League all-conference honors as a senior. He was the Howard Resnick Award winner as the player that represents what Springfield College stands for by displaying commitment and dedication to the team both on and off the field. A native of Braintree, Mass., Baier earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Sciences with a minor in Coaching from Springfield in 2013.
