NEW TECHNOLOGY
SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS GET CHROMEBOOKS
Preparing the 6th graders for Junior High
Lanakila Baptist Elementary is dedicated in pushing
for improvement to enhance education for our students.
Many of the Junior and Senior High students
now use Chromebooks and access their textbooks
online. Our 6th grade students also purchased
Chromebooks. Our goal is to prepare them academically
as well as technologically as they advance scholastically.
LANAKILA JOINS WITH CHALKABLE
Prior years parents were able to check students
grades through MYGRADEBOOK. This year we have
joined with Chalkable to provide our teachers as well
as parents a top rated web based software management
system. Each parent received a user login name
as well as a password. Parents may check their students
grades, attendance, as well as assignments that
are posted. Teachers can better keep parents better
informed on their child’s progress.
If you have not been able to logon to your account,
please contact the office at (808) 677-0731.
Aloha LBES Ohana,
October 2016
WOW! Where did first quarter go? I
guess the old saying is true, “Time
flies when you're having fun!” The
Faculty and Staff has had a blast
getting to know each child and their
families. We started the school year
off strong and then the flu caught a
few of our parents, students and
Maria Pauley: Principal
teachers, but that didn’t keep us
from working hard, doing well and having fun. Praise God,
all have recovered and we made it through 1st quarter.
Thank you to our LBES families for supporting our school in
the 4th grade Big Island Trip fundraisers and school activities,
we love having you on campus and our field trips. Our
multicultural luncheon was a huge success and the students
did an amazing job presenting and representing their
missionaries and country.
As we look ahead to the busy holiday season, I ask that you
eat well, get some good sleep and continue to encourage
your children to study, finish homework assignments and
stay focused during the school day so that they can finish
the quarter/ semester strong! Prayerfully, our playground
equipment, that will replace a worn out broken piece, will
make it on island by the Christmas break. The hope is for it
to be replaced and ready for when the children return.
Please keep that in your prayers. We can’t do these great
things without the hard work from our parents. God Bless
you and may He bless your holiday season.
MISSIONS EMPHASIS WEEK
Lanakila Baptist focuses on World Missions
The last week in September the elementary students focused
on World Missions. The entire school went to the
Hawaii Mission House on September 27th. The Mission
Houses includes three restored houses, two of which are
the oldest houses in Hawai’i. Students had an opportunity
to learn about early missionaries to Hawaii, about games
kids played then, and perform some typical 19th century
children’s chores.
MULTICULTURAL DAY
Friday, September 30th, was packed with events. Students presented the countries they represented during
Chapel time. At lunch they enjoyed dishes from those countries, thanks to our wonderful and generous
parents. In the afternoon they visited each classroom to experience the country that class chose to focus on.
LANAKILA BAPTIST ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
October 3 rd Lanakila kicked off our Annual Food Drive.
This is the 15 th year that Lanakila has collected food for
the River of Life Mission and Meals on Wheels. Whether
students can only give a little or a lot, every bit helps. So
far this year K-6 th students have brought in 4,058.07
pounds of food. We are just 810.37 pounds short of
beating last year’s record.
If you have not had an opportunity to donate or would
like to donate more, you still have time. Donations are
be accepted through November 20 th . All food will be
delivered to the Mission on Monday, November 21 st .
“And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones
a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say
unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42
“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these
my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40
Educating children goes beyond academics at Lanakila.
We want our students to learn to have generous hearts
that reach beyond their families and their friends. Samaritan’s
Purse provides students an opportunity to
share Christmas with needy children around the world.
November 14th we will be taking all the boxes to the
drop up center. If you would like a shoebox, please call
Mrs. Bustamante at (808) 677-0731.
