LEVEL 1 KNOWLEDGE CHCAGE005 Dementia Essentials Provide support to people living with dementia Dementia Essentials is a Commonwealth funded initiative delivered by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic as part of Dementia Training Australia offering fully funded education to workers who provide support to people living with dementia. In this accredited course, you will learn how to incorporate therapeutic communication techniques; apply a person-centred approach; and develop useful strategies to respond to changed behaviours. By successfully completing this nationally recognised unit, you will gain a comprehensive knowledge of dementia and receive a formal Statement of Attainment. On completion of this accredited course you will develop an understanding of: • the nature of dementia • the impact of dementia • effective communication strategies • purposeful and meaningful engagement • the environment of care and a person-centred approach to support • understanding changed behaviours and developing effective responses • the application to care practices and reporting requirements Duration: 18 hours over 3 days Suitable for: People working in aged care, community care or disability providing support for people living with dementia Cost, venue, dates & times: Go to vic.fightdementia.org.au/education or call 03 9816 5708 Doorway to dementia As our most popular workshop, this introductory session provides you with knowledge of dementia and its implication for practice. LEVEL 1 KNOWLEDGE Virtual Dementia Experience Winner of the 2015 Victorian Healthcare Awards, the Microsoft Imagine Cup World Citizenship Award and several other innovation awards, the Virtual Dementia Experience TM is the world’s first application of serious computer game technology in dementia education. An Independent evaluation by Swinburne University confirms the effectiveness of the Virtual Dementia Experience TM in building participants’ knowledge and empathy.
