The keys to a win for the Kingston
Frontenacs tonight against the
Ottawa 67’s will come down to how
effective they are on these key points in
their gameplan.
1. PROTECT THE HIGH SCORING ZONES If you
look at where the goals were scored from
against Kingston in the Sudbury game,
it is clear Kingston has to do a better job
of protecting the slot area. All four goals
scored against Helvig were from the
hash marks or lower in the zone. That is
3. MORE CONSISTENCY THROUGHOUT THE
GAME Over the last few games we have
seen Kingston have really good stretches
in a game, and really bad stretches in
a game. Take the Ottawa game from a
couple weeks ago as an example. In the
1st period Kingston had a single shot on
net. In the 3rd period they controlled the
play and nearly completed a comeback.
They have to be more consistent over 60
minutes. There is too much talent on an
OHL roster to take a few minutes off and
expect to come away with a win.

guys up in front and the centers need to
come down lower in the zone to cover their
position. The best goalies in the world are
going to struggle against shots from this
area. The whole team has to be better at
limiting scoring chances from these high
scoring zones.
2. FIND THE SOLID DEFENSIVE GAME It’s
pretty simple to say that if you play
good defence, you will win games. With
the Frontenacs it is an absolute must.
Kingston is a very low scoring team. If
they allow a team to get to three goals,
it is unlikely they will win the game. For
Kingston to have any type of success
they need the defensive game to hold the
opposition to as few goals as possible. Not
just because it’s easier to win that way, but
also because they can’t usually score their
way out of a bad defensive game.
