Orland’s Joe Kuligoski
contributes to EIU men’s
basketball team
As of the first two games
of the season, Eastern Illinois
University men’s
basketball team was 1-1. In
those games, No. 24 forward
Joe Kuligoski — a 6-foot-
6, 220-pound senior from
Orland Park — averaged
2 points and had half a rebound
in relief.
Following four games, he
was averaging 1.3 points,
0.7, rebounds and 0.7 assists
per game. At that point, he
had a season-high 13 minutes
versus Western Illinois,
with two assists.
Following six games, he
was averaging 1 point, 0.8
rebounds and 0.5 assists per
game.
Following eight games, he
was averaging 2 points, 0.7
rebounds and 0.3 assists. He
had eight points at UIC (3-
of-4 on field goals), with a
then-season-high 17 minutes
of playing time.
Following nine games, he
was averaging 1.7 points,
0.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists.
Through those games,
he was .364 (4-of-11) on
field goals, .250 (1-of-4) on
3-pointers and .750 (3-of-4)
on free throws.
Athlete of the Week
10 Questions
with Joey Jenkot
Joey Jenkot is a junior on
the boys swimming team, as
well as the water polo team,
at Sandburg High School.
He is working toward setting
a school record this
season as a swimmer.
How did you get started
with swimming?
When I was 5 or 6, my
parents signed me up for
the club team in Orland, and
I’ve just been swimming
ever since then.
What keeps you
motivated?
The desire to keep winning.
We have a pretty good
team this year — last year,
we were good, too — we
want to keep some momentum
from last year.
What are your goals for
this season?
I want to break the varsity
100-yard breaststroke
record. I have the freshman
and sophomore [record], but
I want to break the varsity
one, too. At the first invite, I
swam a 1 minute, 2.05 seconds,
and the record for the
100-yard breast is a 0:58.2.
If you had a house
party, who would be
your celebrity guest?
Probably Ryan Lochte,
because he seems like he’d
be pretty fun at a party.
What’s the best prank
you or the team has
pulled?
After practice, if you leave
your backpack unguarded,
then you get your backpack
flipped inside out. It’s probably
one of the better pranks
people pull.
If you’re talking to a
girl, who would you
want your wingman to
be?
Aidan Farley, or my other
friend Kyle Fox. They know
I do stupid stuff, so they’d
prevent me from doing those
stupid things.
What are you binge
watching on Netflix
right now?
I always binge watch “The
Office.” I’ve watched it in its
entirety six times through.
Even though I keep watching,
it still gets funnier each
time. Dwight and Jim’s feud
is probably the best part of
the show.
If you could buy
22nd Century Media File Photo
anything, what would
it be?
I would probably get season
tickets to every Chicago
sports team.
If you went into
Walgreens with a few
dollars, what would you
buy?
I would buy Ben & Jerry’s.
Cherry Garcia is the
best flavor.
What’s your favorite
book?
I read “Unbroken” recently.
I really like the World
War II era, the survival aspect
of the story and how it’s
also based on a true story.
It’s a comeback story of a
POW, it’s easy to connect
with because he was also
an athlete and he was in the
military. I want to be in the
military, too, so it was easy
to connect with.
