Service Delivery<br />

• Continue to develop the All Island Paediatric Cardiology Service in conjunction with health partners in<br />

Northern Ireland<br />

• Prepare for the implementation of the forthcoming policy on a trauma system in Ireland<br />

• Support the pilot and further implement phase 1 of the Framework for Staffing and Skill Mix for Nursing in<br />

General and Specialist Medical and Surgical Care in Acute Hospitals<br />

• Implement the next phase of the ABF programme as set out in the ABF Programme Implementation Plan<br />

2015–2017<br />

• Support implementation of phase 1 targeted hip ultrasound screening for infants at risk of developmental<br />

dysplasia of the hip<br />

• Continue to support the paediatric consultant delivered services pilot project in University Hospital Waterford<br />

• Support the designated Centres of Expertise, especially in the context of their involvement with<br />

European Reference Networks for Rare Diseases<br />

• Implement the provisions of the Framework Agreement on the Supply and Pricing of Medicines.<br />

National Women and Infants Health Programme<br />

The HSE will establish the National Women and Infants Health Programme in 2017. The programme will<br />

develop an action plan for the implementation of the National Maternity Strategy and provide high level coordination<br />

of maternity, gynaecology and neonatal services nationally.<br />

Implement the Creating a Better Future Together National Maternity Strategy 2016–2026<br />

• Establish the National Women and Infants Health Programme to develop an action plan for the<br />

implementation of the National Maternity Strategy<br />

• Publish maternity safety statements for all maternity units / hospitals monthly<br />

• Improve access to antenatal anomaly screening in all maternity units<br />

• Roll out the maternal and newborn clinical management system in phase 1 hospitals and commence phase<br />

2 preparation and roll-out<br />

• Progress plans for the relocation of Dublin maternity hospitals and University of Limerick Maternity Hospital<br />

• Implement a range of improvement actions based on the National Standards for Bereavement Care<br />

following Pregnancy Loss and Perinatal Death across all 19 maternity units<br />

• Continue to support the Guideline Development Group for the National Clinical Effectiveness<br />

Committee Intrapartum Care Guidelines.<br />
