We hold many classes at both WOMBWELL & MAPPLEWELL shops and
more often than not there is no need to wait to join, just check
availability for the day and venue for you. All our classes have helpful,
friendly tutors and staff!
New* Crafty Sit & Sew Sessions
Would you like some time to sew? Then we have the answer for
you…why not come and sew in our workshop area with free tea and
coffee or you may decide to upgrade
with a latte or hot chocolate from the
café?
Whether you are starting a new project,
bringing along an unfinished one in
quilting, dressmaking or simply
crafting or you’re just taking out some
time to sew our sessions are great value
at only £7.00 per 3 hour session if you book a block of 4 (£28.00).
Pay as You Go is £3.00 per hour, minimum of 2 hours.
If you want to make new friends we already have regular groups on
Tuesday and Friday am at Wombwell and
Tuesday am and Friday pm at Mapplewell.
Please note there are no tutors at these
sessions but help and advice is available if the
shop isn’t too busy! Tuesday & Friday 9.30-
12.30 (Wombwell) and Tuesday 10.30-
1.30pm, Friday 1-3pm at Mapplewell. You can hire a machine any time
from 10-4pm (10.30-4pm on Sundays) provided there are no classes. To

New Starters Welcome! Our Tutor Caroline has a wealth of knowledge
having worked in a variety of roles including professional fashion
designer to running her own sewing school. If you haven’t touched a
machine for years and are wanting to pick up again, are a complete
beginner or simply keen to learn to be a dressmaker then
this is the class for you! Over 4 weeks you will
cover the following topics:

Are you new to Patchwork & Quilting? Then this class is
perfect for you, starting with a simple 4
patch cushion then moving on to develop
your skills with this lovely Lucky Stars
Quilt. In this class you will learn how to
use the basic tools of quilting, the rotary
cutter and rulers. As you progress through
the quilt making process we will work on
techniques that will assist you in making your quilt
efficiently pinning, chain piecing, pressing, etc. At the end of the 6
weeks you will have a pieced top ready to be quilted and bound.

Absolute Beginners Sewing with Caroline £22.50 (Fabric included and FREE
Sewing Starter Kit)
Dates: Saturday 14 th January 9.30pm – 12.30pm (AM)

This is a great class with Caroline to get you started on the path to sewing
glory…who knows maybe the Sewing Bee! Absolute beginners class, get sewing
machine savvy in this 3 hour class and leave with enough knowledge to
confidently make your own projects at
home!
In this one off class you will learn how to
thread and operate a sewing machine along
with the basic stitching techniques you will
need. During the class you will make a
simple cushion to take home with you and have everything you need to refer
to in the future. This course will provide
you with the confidence needed to
happily use your sewing machine for
future projects.
This class is suitable for Age 10+

Mastering Your Overlocker Mini Master Class with Caroline £22.50 threads inc
Dates: Saturday 14 th January 1.30pm – 4.30 pm (PM)
A popular class with Caroline. Lots of help and advice
on how to get to grips with your own over locker.
Includes, understanding the basic stitch – which bit
does what! Needle threading (4 colour…yes 4!) and
using your tools. Testing your stitches, how to adjust –
what the dial and levers do, changing tensions easily,
differential feeds, cutting widths and stitch length plus
any queries you may have Caroline will have the answer.
Quilting Bee (Block of the Month) with Graham £15.00
Dates: Saturday 21 st January, 18 th February, 18 th March
and 15 th April AM & PM
A continuation of our popular monthly group meeting to work
on a fabulous block per month. Lots of new skills to learn and this quilts
uses Quilt as You Go Method.
Let’s Get Organised Bag of the Month Club (£15.00 club price)
Dates: Saturday 28 th January, 25 th February,
9.30pm – 1.30pm
Here you will master some of the techniques and
useful skills for the By Annie bags. Including
installing zippers, creating zippers by adding pulls,
secrets to sewing beautiful bindings, and sewing
with vinyl and mesh to name a few. Time to work
on your current bag with fellow bag enthusiasts!
Memory Teddy Bear with Graham £35.00 (FREE Funky Factory Pattern)
Dates: Saturday 4th February 10.00am – 4.00pm
Make a ‘patchwork’ bear as a special memento to cherish as a
reminder of your baby’s first years, to mark a special occasion or in
memory of a special loved one. Melody is an easy teddy bear pattern
without joints. A great way to transform your child's pre-loved
clothing into an everlasting keepsake toy. You can use most fabrics to
sew your keepsake bears, in fact, mixing and matching different types of fabrics makes
the bears look awesome! Use interfacing to line fabrics that are thin and very stretchy.
This teddy bear pattern is un-jointed and the arms and legs are sewn into the body
pieces. This means the bear is a 'sitting bear' and the arms and legs aren't movable but
it makes the teddy bear easy to make as there are no complicated joints!

Bloc-loc Rulers Come to Barnsley! 2 Days of Workshops with Angela & Marilyn

Bloc-loc rulers come in many
shapes and sizes. They enable
you to square up accurate half square triangles, make
precise log cabin blocks, perfect drunkards path blocks
and so much more. Each ruler has a channel which locks on to the seam
allowance to enable you to cut and trim accurately. There is no ruler rock or
slippage and, what's more, cutting is safer as very little pressure is required.
Some units, e.g. Triangle in a square, come as a 3 piece set with oversized
templates as well as the grooved trimming ruler.

Day Two: Storm at Sea and Bloc-loc Rulers with Angela & Marilyn £40
Dates: Sunday 12 th February 10.30am-4pm
Storm at Sea is an exciting quilt block – it looks as if
curved piecing is involved but, in fact, there's not a
curved seam anywhere; it's all made up of square and
rectangular blocks. Bloc-loc ‘Triangle in a square’ and
‘Flying Geese’ rulers make accurate piecing easier and quicker.
Learn how to piece the Storm at Sea block with easy to use Bloc-loc Rulers
and you will never look back!
The Kimono with Caroline £45 (material included)

A Kimono is perfect for swanning around the
house, covering up in the sun or channelling
your inner bohemian! No matter what your
ability this is a perfectly easy sewing day. All
fabrics included in the price from a choice of

The Tuffet Weekender with Rosemary £60 tuition both days only (fabric and kit
required)* Kit and pattern £90
Dates: Saturday 11 th March 10.00pm – 4.00pm & Sunday 12 th 10.30am – 4pm
Tuffets are a touch of whimsy for your home that blend with all decors and
bridge the gap between design and function. In addition to being heirloom
home accents, they make treasured gifts for special occasions including
weddings, new babies, anniversaries and special birthdays.
During the first session, learn to sew a beautiful tuffet cover. During the
second session, turn that cover into an upholstered footstool. Come to class
with (64) 2” x 21” strips in fabrics of your choice along with the other supplies
on your Supply List.
A Tuffet Finishing Kit includes a “furniture quality”, 17” diameter wood round,
drilled and sanded, upholstery foam, 18” circle/ 6” deep, batting 40” square,
half dome 2 1/2” button form, t nuts and gathering cords. This Finishing Kit
cost is in addition to your class fee and supplies to make 1 Tuffet.
This is Confident Beginner and beyond class, you will
need to have working knowledge of your sewing
machine Please note, class fees do not include patterns
or materials. Our Tuffet Kits are locally made to a high
standard and will be pre made up before the class.
Please be sure to obtain your supplies prior to your class
as there is not time built into the class for shopping. You
will take home a completed Tuffet at the end of your
second session!
Return of the Bloc-loc Ruler Girls with Angela and Marilyn £35
Dates: Saturday 25 th March 10.00am – 4.00pm
Star in a hexagon Make this gorgeous quilt without having
to sew ‘Y’ seams, even though it is constructed from
hexagons. Bloc-loc ‘Diamond in a triangle’ ruler makes all
this possible. The quilt can easily be resized and the stars
can be made from different fabrics, for a scrappy look, or
from coordinating colours.

Free Machine Embroidery Stitching with Angela and Marilyn £30

Have fun with free machine
embroidery and create something fun
and unique! Learn this on trend
technique to bring life to your projects.
Discover everything you need to know
about free machine embroidery to get started. Say
goodbye to straight lines and formality and say hello to
doodling and sketchy stitching.
Once you are confident with free machining you will learn how to applique, a
simple technique that will allow you to add decoration to your
clothes/children’s clothes/bags and so much more. We have lots of templates
and fun fabrics for you to use during the class and all the tools and equipment
you will need if you decide you would like to continue at home!

Dates: Tuesday 17 th January then fortnightly
Bring along your current project and have a good
old natter…beginners can receive some help from Jo
with simple granny squares. All abilities welcome.

session will also include an introduction to the Japanese art of Sashiko.

Advanced Overlocker Class with Caroline £30

Build on previous skills learnt with

rolled hem, flat lock and other stitches, stitching with
jersey and maintenance. A small project will be worked
on to help develop skills. This will be a top or skirt e dged with

Improvers Sewing Master Class with Caroline £25
Dates: Sunday 29 th January 10.30am – 4.00pm
This really is a fast track to sewing! Covering all
sorts of techniques to get you sewing simple
zips, buttonholes, piping, facings and more. This
master class also aims to help you understand
different sewing terms and patterns. After this
course you will be able to confidently apply all
the different techniques you have learnt to all those projects you have

A Day of Quilting and Fat Quarter Friends with Rosemary £30

This Chatterbox quilt 58” x 72” is

you through the process of making
a quilt top. In this class you will

Dates: Sunday 26 th February 10.30am- 2.30pm
Come along and to a relaxing day enjoy crocheting a
delicate little pair of slippers. Your kit will include an easy to follow pattern,
crochet hook and darning needle, yarn, and a stitch marker.
Piped Cushion Master Class with Caroline £25
Dates: Sunday 5 th March 10.30am – 4.00pm
At last a Cushion Master Class which will leave you
desperate to get home and make more to match your furnishings. Caroline
will show you how to make a piped cushion with a zip fastening and talk
you through how to make box cushions. In addition you will discover ways
to embellish your cushions including using applique and corsages. The
topics we aim to cover are:
Correct measuring of cushion pad to get that perfect finish
Marking of fabric and cutting
How to use and insert piping
Embellishing your cushion
How to produce perfect corners

Junior Sewing Clubs 2017
Let’s Get Sewing with Caroline (Boot Camp) Feb ½
Term Days TBC
A sewing experience where creative expression is the key to learning and an
encouraging environment is always in style. Designed for students with little
or no prior sewing experience, this intensive class aims to cover a healthy
range of basic sewing skills while sewing three projects. By end of course,
you will be able to tackle a simple sewing project with confidence. Sewing
machines supplied if needed, handouts, and patterns are provided.
Ages 9-16+
Sewing After School (SAS): Tuesdays during term time,
4:00-6:00PM* (may arrive at 3:30PM) £40 per 4 week block
An ongoing program designed to cover all the basics of sewing. Students
complete simple to more advanced projects as their skills grow. “New to
sewing” students begin with sewing machine basics while making a
pillowcase with French seams and a pair of pajama pants. “Continuing”
students’ projects are skill and interest driven. Classes are formed in 4 week
sessions and are multi-levelled. Students can bring their own machine or use
one of our many studio machines. Materials for the first project are provided.
Classes are held on Tuesday’s from 4-6, but students may arrive starting at
3:30.
Junior Patchwork & Quilting Club £10 per session Age 8+
Dates: January 28 th 2-4pm, February 25 th 2-4pm and March TBC
A new group meeting monthly to learn the art of Patchwork and Quilting.
Come and learn the traditional crafts of patchwork and quilting in lovely
surroundings with patient teachers who would love to share their
experience.

Materials only included where stated, please feel free to bring your own fabric if
you wish to do so.
It is advisable to bring your own cottons, bobbins, scissors etc. to all classes. Please
check beforehand for a full list of requirement’s per class
Some equipment is available within classes such as rotary cutters and mats, however
there is often not enough to go around a full class so you will
therefore be required to share.
We like to encourage you to bring your own machine but please
ensure it is in full working order. Our Janome Machines are available to hire, please
check availability before class

There is a Free Car park to the front & rear of our premises, Please do not
park on the residential side street. Wombwell Train Station is 2 minutes
away which also has free car parking. We are just off JCT 36 of the M1
motorway towards Elsecar Heritage Centre and Cortonwood Retail Park.
