community and creative space<br />
in Dewsbury. We showcase<br />
local artwork and run a variety<br />
of events throughout the year.<br />
Over the next few m<strong>on</strong>ths we have a busy<br />
programme of enjoyable and interesting<br />
activities for you to take part in. From craft<br />
making to music right through to Tai Chi,<br />
you’ll be sure to find an activity that is right<br />
for you!<br />

Wiseminds is a project led by Kirklees College<br />
and its partners <strong>on</strong> behalf of the Kirklees Community<br />
Learning Trust. Art Combo will allow you to get in<br />
touch with your creative side, even if you d<strong>on</strong>’t think<br />
of yourself as the ‘creative type’. This course will<br />
allow you to try a variety of different drawing and<br />
painting techniques using different materials. You will<br />
experiment with sketching, watercolours, charcoal<br />
and pastels. Art Combo is a great way to develop<br />
your skills, so come al<strong>on</strong>g, get creative and<br />
surprise yourself! All resources<br />

This Tai Chi course run by Wiseminds combines<br />
deep breathing and relaxati<strong>on</strong> with slow, gentle<br />
movements. Over six sessi<strong>on</strong>s you will learn about<br />
the origins of Tai Chi and its potential benefits<br />
as you practice its basic movements. This is a<br />
practical course and it’s important that you wear<br />
comfortable clothes.<br />

The Wiseminds Creative Writing course is designed<br />
to improve your wellbeing through creative writing.<br />
You will be introduced to several ways you can<br />
boost your creativity and explore language and<br />
style in different literary forms. You will<br />
take part in practical exercises where<br />
you will learn to experiment with titles,<br />
develop character ideas and explore<br />
what works best for you.<br />

Spanish you know? Wiseminds Spanish for<br />
C<strong>on</strong>versati<strong>on</strong> is a fun and fabulous Spanish<br />
class for those wanting to learn another language.<br />
In this class you will have the opportunity to practice<br />
c<strong>on</strong>versati<strong>on</strong>s with others and have fun.<br />
This friendly course will help you to<br />
develop a skill that can build your<br />
c<strong>on</strong>fidence in speaking Spanish<br />
at work or <strong>on</strong> holiday.<br />

This Wiseminds Memory Book course is the perfect<br />
chance for you to have some creative fun. Using your<br />
own photographs you will cut, stick and glue your<br />
way to making the perfect momento. You will have<br />
the opportunity to learn different paper making skills<br />
using a range of textured papers as well as trying out<br />
some unique binding techniques. All materials are<br />
provided, the <strong>on</strong>ly thing you need to<br />
bring al<strong>on</strong>g is your photographs and<br />
any other items you want<br />
to include.<br />

This six week course run by Wiseminds looks at<br />
providing practical advice and techniques to boost<br />
your c<strong>on</strong>fidence and build self-esteem. You will:<br />
• Learn how to handle difficult situati<strong>on</strong>s<br />
and people c<strong>on</strong>fidently and assertively.<br />
• Learn how to deal with criticism, c<strong>on</strong>fr<strong>on</strong>tati<strong>on</strong>,<br />
anger and negativity in a positive effective way.<br />
• Have the chance to overcome feelings of<br />
apprehensi<strong>on</strong> and understand the importance<br />
of language and body language.<br />
• Develop techniques and relati<strong>on</strong>ships that can<br />
be applied both at work and in your pers<strong>on</strong>al life.<br />

Most of us d<strong>on</strong>’t have the time or space to design<br />
a large garden. This Wiseminds course will help you<br />
to develop an adventurous and colourful palette of<br />
plants so you can enjoy your outdoor space. You’ll<br />
learn the tricks of the trade about patio gardening<br />
and be able to use c<strong>on</strong>tainers with c<strong>on</strong>fidence.<br />
The course covers how to plant and take care<br />
of different vegetables and flowers as well<br />
as how to take garden cuttings successfully<br />
and sustainably. Appropriate footwear<br />
and clothing is required for this course.<br />

Are you ready to be your own boss? If the answer<br />
is yes then this course is for you. This four day interactive<br />
workshop is for young adults between the ages of<br />
18 - 30 who are interested in being self-employed<br />
and owning their own business. You’ll get to meet<br />
other like-minded people and have the chance to<br />
talk to a business expert, covering everything from<br />
business planning and marketing to sales and finance.<br />
You will gain the tools and understanding <strong>on</strong> how<br />
to run a small business and explore if<br />

Run by Dipa Mistry, these sessi<strong>on</strong>s will give<br />
you a release after the challenges of the day.<br />
The sessi<strong>on</strong>s use a mix of physical postures,<br />
breathing and relaxati<strong>on</strong> practices and are<br />
accessible for all levels. No equipment<br />
required – just wear comfortable clothing.<br />

The Survivors Group is a warm, friendly and<br />
n<strong>on</strong>-judgemental group for people who have<br />
experienced mental illness. The group helps<br />
people to tackle isolati<strong>on</strong> and build c<strong>on</strong>fidence<br />
through activities and outings. Recent highlights<br />
have included art workshops, cooking sessi<strong>on</strong>s,<br />
circus skills and a trip<br />
to Tropical World.<br />

Pre-School Dance is a great way to introduce your<br />

them for school. Suitable for children aged under five<br />

rhymes, dancing to music and playing games.<br />
This class is great for the early development<br />
of young children as it helps with co-ordinati<strong>on</strong>,<br />
musicality and teamwork.

is mental health and dementia friendly<br />
