Finally, I thank Dhaval, who certainly wasn’t aware of the implications of
having a PhD student as a partner at the time we fell in love and decided to tie the
knot, for his patience and emotional support during my seemingly never ending
PhD journey.
I’d also like to give a special mention to my beautiful daughter, Aamani, for
providing happiness and laughter during the final years of my PhD. Lilly, Zach,
Yoshi and Max – my furry family members – kept me active and filled my days with
joy.
Last, and most importantly, I would not be where I am today without my
grandparents Gudrun and Herbert Hirsch who have always supported me in all my
endeavours. Oma, I am grateful for your advice and belief in me. Our regular phone
conversations guided me through all aspects of life and kept me sane. Danke. I am
also thankful to my dad for instilling in me a quest for knowledge and a love of
learning from a very young age.
