Your Contributions At Work Jennifer Bisgaier Jennifer Bisgaier - 2009 Academic Honoree. Jennifer’s past extends into Flatbush, Brooklyn – where her father was born and raised. But her family moved away from the city, to Central Virginia, where Jennifer’s home was on a small, isolated farm - far away from brownstones, skyscrapers, taxis and subway stops. When she was a young girl, her father was watching The O’Reilly Factor show on television where it featured Trey Whitfield School in a series on public vs. private school education. Jennifer overheard the conversation between her mom and dad about Brooklyn and the donation they were planning to make to the school. Jennifer was inspired and pulled together all of her $80 savings to give to the school. “As a ten year old girl with little experience in financial matters, the situation seemed simple enough to me - I had easy access to an outstanding education, and these children did not. Extra clothes, candy, and American Girl doll accessories suddenly seemed insignificant compared to a child’s future.” Now, eleven years later, Jennifer is a senior at Georgetown University. “I more fully understand just how incredible Trey Whitfield School is. It has enabled countless children to overcome their circumstances and give back to their community. It is more than just a school; it is an example to the rest of the world of education that needs be supported and emulated.” Keshia Blair Keshia Blair – 2011 Academic Honoree. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Keshia moved to Brooklyn with her family and attended Bethlehem Baptist Academy, now known as Trey Whitfield School. Graduating from TWS, she entered Brewster Academy, where she received generous financial assistance from a member of TWS’s Board from Morgan Stanley and was even more motivated toward high achievement and excellence. After graduating from Brewster with honors, she attended Stetson University and graduated this spring magna cum laude - majoring in Humanities and double minored in Africana Studies and Religious Studies. She was also a community activist, helping charter the Sigma Gamma Rho, a historically African-American sorority on campus. “I am proud to say that I have recently graduated from Stetson University. I can’t believe how the time has flown; it seems like just yesterday that I attended Brewster Academy. However, as a recent college graduate, I can only think of the legacy I have created at an institution that has helped me to find myself and my passions.” With several law school acceptances, she chose Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA, her goal is to become a corporate attorney. Nolan Burgos Nolan Burgos – 2014 Academic Honoree. Nolan was born in the Bronx, New York and at a very young age, had a passion for sports but also excelled in the classroom. During his years at Mount Saint Michael Academy, he ranked in the top 10% and was captain of both the football and lacrosse teams. He was also heavily involved with the school community, becoming leader of the Spanish Honor Society and Vice President of the senior class, as well as being active in the Student Council and National Honor Society. After graduating from the Academy, Nolan is now attending Bates College and just completed his freshman year. At Bates, he is making friends from all over the world and realizing the college experience will be enriching in more ways than one. Thankful for the support and motivation he had received from his family and the Trey Whitfield Foundation, Nolan believes that “the Foundation has made it easier for me to succeed, and because of it, I’m excited for what the future has in store. I can’t wait to see what the rest of my time at Bates will be like, and it’s great to know that the Foundation will be by my side every step along the way.” Over the 2015 summer, Nolan is an intern at the NAICA Law Office, working with the Housing Court to help prevent tenants from being needless evictions. At Bates, Nolan is majoring in Philosophy, minoring in Rhetoric with plans on going to law school after graduation. Trey Whitfield Foundation, Inc. 34 Twenty-Third Anniversary Banquet
