Partnering for Success ACC maintains strategic relationships with employers, nonprofit organizations, and economic development groups to create opportunities for students and ensure the college meets community needs. See page 62 for a list of community and business partners. COMMUNITY PARTNERS Capital IDEA: Capital IDEA seeks to connect non-traditional, low-income individuals to living-wage careers. The nonprofit organization provides financial assistance and support services to students who take ACC courses in careertechnical areas that offer financial stability and opportunities for growth, particularly information technology and healthcare. ACC IS DOING AN EXTRAORDINARY JOB OF BUILDING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS. THE EXAMPLE THE COLLEGE IS SETTING HAS IMPLICATIONS NOT JUST FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, BUT FOR THE COUNTRY.” Arne Duncan, former U.S. Education Secretary INNOVATIONS SELF-STUDY 2017 57 Austin Chamber of Commerce: ACC and the Austin Chamber share a common goal: to serve as a catalyst for economic growth. This requires a close, ongoing collaboration to create an educated workforce and strong talent pool. ACC and the Chamber together promote a college-going culture, advocate to legislators and other policymakers, and monitor labor market needs. Goodwill: ACC’s Continuing Education Division partners with Goodwill Central Texas to provide affordable career training at several campuses through the Goodwill Career Academy. Goodwill provides support services and job placement assistance. Academy students can earn certifications in accounting, bookkeeping, administrative assistant, certified apartment maintenance technician, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and machine operator. City of Austin: The college partners with the City of Austin on a variety of initiatives, including the White House TechHire Initiative, a nationwide effort to train and develop an information technology workforce. The city also offers a matched savings program that allows eligible ACC students and employees to earn up to $4,000 for education expenses. E3 Alliance: Architecting Change E3 Alliance (Education Equals Economics) is a regional education collaborative housed at ACC’s Highland Business Center. E3 works with businesses and nonprofit organizations, school districts, higher education institutions, and policy leaders to improve educational systems and student success and in turn strengthen Central Texas’ economic competitiveness. The organization’s annual “College Signing Day” draws hundreds of graduating seniors and eighth graders from around the region who are among the first in their families to pursue higher education. In 2014 E3 Alliance named ACC an “Architect of Change” for its commitment to expanding access to higher education and creating innovative programs to improve student outcomes.
