These are core values and strengths that guide our decisionmaking everywhere we do business. Goldcorp Red Lake Gold Mines Red Lake is located in one of the world’s most prolific gold districts. In 2015, gold production totaled 375,700 ounces. The High Grade Zone is the backbone of the Red Lake operation, with an average grade of more than two ounces of gold per tonne. Recent investments in infrastructure and development have positioned this renowned mine for many more years of long-term sustainable production. The focus at Red Lake is on asset optimization and cost reduction efforts. Continued transition to mechanized mining, bulk mining and material movement automation is expected to result in lower mining costs. Exploration continues to focus on the high-grade HG Young deposit. A key priority is the evaluation of underground development options to better assess the continuity of the mineralization at depth. Exploration will also continue in the HGZ at depth and on further testing of High Grade Zone deep offsets. COMMUNITY RELATIONS Red Lake Gold Mines is committed to building strong relationships and developing strategies that will create long term sustainable value. We contribute to the economic development of our host communities through a variety of methods. We recognize that we have the ability to impact and influence the local and regional economies around our sites. This is why we are working to create sustainable value – long-term social and economic benefits that do not leave a legacy of dependence. Our approach is multifaceted, embedded in our new CSR strategy, and incorporates: local hiring and procurement initiatives, including training and capacity building; direct community contributions through donations and investments; and infrastructure investment. We also contribute through the payment of taxes and royalties to various levels of government in the communities and regions where we operate. Some of Red Lake’s Community Relations contributions include: • Formal Collaboration Agreements with Wabauskang and Lac Seul First Nations provide a framework that strengthens collaboration in the development and operation of Red Lake Gold Mines. • Goldcorp donated $5 million to the Municipality of Red Lake towards the construction of a new Red Lake Medical Clinic, opened in 2015. This new facility is paramount to the attraction and retention of medical professionals to the Red Lake area, to better serve over 5,000 residents including those from surrounding communities. • Goldcorp contributed $3 million towards developing a 54 lot residential subdivision that is currently being transferred to the Municipality of Red Lake. • In 2014, Goldcorp committed $605,000 over two years to the Heart and Stroke Foundation to support stroke awareness, professional development, and Telestroke preparedness and integration activities, focused on our Canadian operations, including Red Lake and its surrounding communities. 18 www.tourismredlake.ca
• A variety of donations and sponsorships to local organizations including the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation, Red Lake Area Emergency Shelter, Wilderness Entertainment Series, Colours of Hope Run for Cancer, Norseman Day Festival, district schools’ and community sports, and English River Miners hockey team to name a few. • Red Lake Gold Mines supported the Red Lake Scout Group’s fourth annual tree planting event on the mine’s property to promote and educate local youth about rehabilitation. The company’s environmental vision of Our Planet, Our Choices, Our Legacy, outlines our belief that we each have a part to play in maintaining the environment. Red Lake Gold Mines also contributes to a number of programs and events aimed at supporting youth in Red Lake and its surrounding communities. Examples of this include the Mining Matters Mining Rocks Earth Science Program - an exciting educational experience tailored to the unique needs of the community. In 2016, Red Lake Gold Mines also hosted a one-week Mining Rocks Program aimed at educating elementary school students, teachers and community members about the mining cycle, rocks, minerals and many aspects of mining including rehabilitation.
