AACRAO Awards<br />
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an AACRAO<br />
member for exceptional contributions over an extended<br />
period of time for service to AACRAO at the national<br />
level in the areas of program, scholarship, committee, or<br />
other activities worthy of recognition. The recipient is<br />
recommended by the AACRAO Awards Committee and<br />
approved by the Board of Directors. Members who have<br />
served on the Board of Directors within the past three<br />
years are not eligible for the award.<br />
(25 points toward Honorary Membership)<br />
Named for a Past President of AACRAO, the Thomas A.<br />
Bilger Award is presented to a member in recognition of<br />
consistent vision, service and/or leadership in AACRAO<br />
and with seven or more years of volunteer service. The<br />
award represents a significant contribution to AACRAO<br />
in positions such as Task Force Chair, Special Projects<br />
Director, Program Coordinator/Director, or member of the<br />
Board of Directors. This award is given to honor those who<br />
had the foresight to recognize the needs of the profession.<br />
The award may be given to more than one person annually.<br />
The recipient is recommended by the AACRAO Awards<br />
Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.<br />
Members who have served on the Board of Directors<br />
within the past three years are not eligible for this award.<br />
(15 points towards Honorary Membership)<br />
The Emerging Leader Award is presented to professionals<br />
who have, early in their career, made an exceptional or<br />
unique contribution which demonstrates promise as a<br />
future AACRAO leader. The award may be given to up to<br />
five recipients annually. The recipients are recommended<br />
by the AACRAO Awards Committee and approved by the<br />
Board of Directors.<br />
(5 points to Honorary Membership)<br />
The Elbert W. Ockerman State and Regional Professional<br />
Activity Award recognizes outstanding professional<br />
activities of the state/regional associations and encourages<br />
development and expansion of quality professional<br />
activities among state/regional associations. Up to three<br />
awards of $500 each will be presented. Nominees must<br />
prepare a one page written summary of their activities for<br />
consideration. The recipient(s) are recommended by the<br />
AACRAO Awards Committee and approved by the Board<br />
of Directors.<br />
The Award for Excellence in International Education is<br />
presented to a member for excellence in the field<br />
of international education who has demonstrated a<br />
commitment to internationalism and has not only made<br />
an impact on the profession but on those who serve it.<br />
Contributions include, but are not limited to: leadership,<br />
publications, contribution to conference and programs and<br />
special projects. One award is given annually and presented<br />
at the <strong>Annual</strong> Meeting. The recipient is recommended by<br />
the AACRAO Awards Committee and approved by the<br />
Board of Directors.<br />
(15 points toward Honorary Membership)<br />
The AACRAO Centennial Award for Excellence, established<br />
in recognition of AACRAO’s 2010 centennial celebration,<br />
is presented to an individual who is not an AACRAO<br />
member, but who has made a contribution to or influenced<br />
the higher education community in a notable and positive<br />
manner that supports the vision and mission statement<br />
of AACRAO. The recipient is selected by the Board<br />
of Directors.<br />
Honorary Membership is awarded in recognition of<br />
a member’s active involvement and contribution to<br />
AACRAO by the Board of Directors. Honorary members<br />
no longer actively employed shall be entitled to benefits<br />
from the association, such as free meeting registration<br />
and waiver of dues. If an Honorary Member becomes<br />
eligible for active or corporate AACRAO Membership,<br />
the benefits of Honorary Membership will be suspended<br />
until the individual is no longer eligible for active or<br />
corporate membership.<br />
Criteria: Honorary membership will be considered for<br />
AACRAO members who are retiring from a member<br />
institution or leaving the profession and who should<br />
have accumulated a minimum of 100 points based<br />
on significant participation and service to AACRAO<br />
according to the following point system.<br />
5 points per service year<br />
• Co-Chair of Volunteers<br />
• Task force member<br />
• AACRAO Committee Chair (max 15 points)<br />
• Program Committee member (max 15 points)<br />
• Nominations and Elections member<br />
• Inter-Association Representative<br />
• Author of an article or chapter in an AACRAO<br />
Publication<br />
15 points per service year<br />
• Nominations and Elections chair or vice chair<br />
• Task force chair<br />
• LAC chair or co-chair<br />
• Program Committee chair (max 30 points)<br />
• Editor or author of an AACRAO publication<br />
(15 points per contribution)<br />

the discretion of the Board of Directors. Recipients are selected by the Board of Directors.<br />
