York Parks and Recreation Department<br />

Senior Center<br />

The York Senior Center, located at 36 Main Street in York Beach,<br />

is a member based organization run by the Town of York Parks and<br />

Recreation Department. The Center’s Staff is dedicated to providing<br />

individuals in our community, age 50 and over, with opportunities to<br />

socialize, learn, recreate and be well through participation in activities<br />

and programs that are designed to enrich the mind, body and soul.<br />

Senior Center Annual Membership runs from July 1st to June 30th<br />

of the following year. Membership is open to Residents for a $<strong>15</strong>.00<br />

fee and Non-residents for a $22.00 fee. All members receive a monthly<br />

newsletter and program guide, “The Scoop”. For non-members<br />

interested in what’s going on at the Senior Center copies of “The<br />

Scoop” are available in our office and on the Town’s website. Programs<br />

are also posted on the public access television channel 3. Some of our<br />

programs are reserved for members only, however there are many<br />

programs offered to the community at large, we welcome all to join in!<br />

We are on Facebook! Please be sure to “friend” us and be kept up<br />

to date with all the happenings of the Center. Additionally, we offer our<br />

members wireless internet access. Members are welcome to bring lap<br />

top computers, iPads, Kindles and any other devices that you might<br />

have that require internet service.<br />

While our programs and activities change from month to month, the<br />

following programs are offered on a regular daily, weekly or monthly<br />

basis. We welcome you to give them a try.<br />

Meal Program<br />

We serve home-cooked meals at 12:00pm, Monday - Friday. Our<br />

in-house chef works to provide you with the very best in both the<br />

variety and quality of meals. A meal donation of $4.00 per member is<br />

suggested. Non-member guests are always welcome at a suggested<br />

donation of $5.00 per person. Reservations for dining may be made up<br />

until 4:00pm the day before you wish to join us. In some cases, should<br />

space permit, we will accept reservations until 9:00am on a given<br />

day. Monthly menus may be found in The Scoop or on the website. In<br />

addition to noon time meals, complimentary (donations appreciated)<br />

coffee and “nibbles” are available each morning for our members.<br />

Maine Senior College Network<br />

South Coast Community College<br />

South Coast Community College is a division of the York County<br />

Community College and the Maine Senior College Network. The<br />

consortium of 17 independent groups from York County to Fort Kent offer<br />

adults over the age of 50 the opportunity to learn in a casual environment.<br />

There are no exams, no papers, no grades and no pressure. SCCC plans<br />

exciting, intellectually stimulating, non-credit courses and special<br />

learning opportunities; it’s learning just for the fun and enrichment of<br />

it. The Courses are held at the College (with a small exception of classes<br />

held at satellite locations) during daylight hours. Membership ($25.00<br />

annually) in the SCCC program is open to anyone in York County and the<br />

Seacoast New Hampshire, who are over the age of 50, and is honored<br />

at all other Maine Senior Colleges. If you would like more information<br />

regarding the SCCC Program contact the York Senior Center Office.<br />

Cribbage<br />

Are you a cribbage player looking to<br />

play more often? There’s always a game<br />

or two going at the Senior Center.<br />

Bridge<br />

Our Bridge group gathers every Monday at 1:00pm in the card room.<br />
