.HOW DOES IT WORK?.
A Foundation Apprenticeship takes two years to complete,
is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6),
and is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a
qualification you will spend time out of school at college and
with a local employer.

APPRENTICESHIP – SCQF LEVEL 6
The Social Services, Children and Young People Foundation
Apprenticeship is a qualification for people who wish to be prepared to
work in a variety of childcare environments. The qualification covers all
the generic knowledge that everyone working in the field needs, and
that all employers look for.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Pupils should have achieved several National 4 and 5 subjects and be
working towards a mix of National 5 and 6 subjects in school, at the
same time as studying this course.
COURSE CONTENT
• Child Development and Health
• Play and Learning
• Rights and Protection and Safeguarding
• Social Context for Learning and Development
DAYS AND TIMES
• 1:30pm - 4:30pm
August 2017 course days are:
• Greenock Campus Wednesday and Friday
• Clydebank Campus Tuesday and Thursday
• Paisley Campus Tuesday and Thursday

PROGRESSION
This course can prepare you for work in the areas of employment that
deal with childcare in the environment. For example, if you complete
this course successfully and would like to undertake further study, you
can apply for:
• NC Early Education and Childcare
• Higher Social Care Level 6
• Modern apprenticeship
• HNC Childhood Practice (1 higher, preferably English)
• HNC Social Services (1 higher, preferably English)
INTERVIEW
If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed
for this course and this will involve:
• A welcome and introduction from Head of Sector
• A written exercise – short paragraph answers to three questions
• A personal interview
Your written exercise and personal interview will be graded to establish
your suitability for the course.
