The <strong>Ferguslie</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> provides certificated<br />

learning opportunities at beginner’s level within a friendly,<br />

community environment.<br />

This <strong>Ferguslie</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> programme is designed to assist adult learners build upon their<br />

Employability and Life skills using a blended learning approach. The <strong>Centre</strong> is based in the heart<br />

of <strong>Ferguslie</strong> and provides a warm welcoming environment for adults returning to learning.<br />

<strong>Centre</strong> Timetable<br />

Monday<br />

Coping Strategies and Building Resilience<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

22 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

1pm – 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

This course provides the opportunity to define and identify<br />

mental wellbeing and ways to support positive mental health.<br />

You will consider what the terms ‘resilience’ and ‘coping<br />

strategies’ mean using personal knowledge and reflection<br />

to apply knowledge and theory which informs mental health<br />

and wellbeing. Learners will undertake research on different<br />

coping strategies and will learn theories which underpin our<br />

understanding of wellbeing and explore formal and informal<br />

support networks which can be accessed in times of need or to<br />

help maintain our mental health and wellbeing.<br />

Photography<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

22 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

1pm – 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Learners will plan<br />

and carry out two<br />

photoshoots based<br />

on two different<br />

locations that<br />

they would like to<br />

photograph. After<br />

completing the photoshoots,<br />

they will then select a range of images to present as part of<br />

their photography portfolio.<br />

Students will learn basic camera operation, composition,<br />

lighting, colour and framing as part of the process of producing<br />

their images.<br />

This course will take place in a classroom at Paisley<br />

Campus, Renfrew Road as we require specific<br />

equipment and resources.<br />

Tuesday<br />

Criminology - Crime Scenes<br />

SCQF Level 5<br />

23 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

9.30am – 12noon<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Learners will be introduced to physical and psychological<br />

evidence available at a crime scene. They will develop an<br />

understanding of the different types of physical evidence<br />

available at a crime scene, the importance of preserving<br />

evidence and how this evidence is utilised.<br />

Learners will also develop an understanding of psychological<br />

evidence available at a crime scene and how that information<br />

can be used by profilers.<br />

Horticulture - Plant Propagation<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

20 February <strong>2024</strong><br />

1pm – 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Learners will be introduced to methods commonly used to<br />

propagate plants. Developing their knowledge of a range of<br />

propagation methods in a practical environment and the<br />

most appropriate ones to use for selected plants to<br />

produce a crop of plants.<br />

This unit is part<br />

Award of three<br />

units. Learners<br />

require little or no<br />

experience of plant<br />

propagation.


Wednesday<br />

Communication in Administration<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

24 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

9.30am – 12noon<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Learners will gain skills that employers value within an<br />

Administrative Role. This course will give you the knowledge<br />

of important admin support tasks such as retrieving<br />

information from<br />

the internet, send<br />

emails, create simple<br />

presentations and use<br />

Publisher to create<br />

documents (poster,<br />

newsletter/social medial<br />

content).<br />

Mindfulness<br />

SCQF Level 2<br />

24 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

1pm – 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Mindfulness is a very powerful tool which<br />

enables you to adopt a new<br />

mindset with a proven,<br />

lasting impact which can<br />

reduce your anxiety and<br />

stress. The course will<br />

discuss how you can alter<br />

your outlook and mood<br />

from one of negativity to<br />

positivity through focusing<br />

your awareness on the<br />

present moment.<br />

Thursday<br />

Fabric Skills<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

25 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

9.30am – 12noon.<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Learn some introductory sewing and construction techniques,<br />

designed to provide you with the skills needed to make your<br />

own fashion and textile items.<br />

Get to grips with using a sewing machine, seam overlocker<br />

and learn how to add typical finishes to your sewing projects.<br />

Projects will include learning how to create<br />

patchwork and quilting effects to make<br />

a decorative and functional design.<br />

This class will include upcycling<br />

and repurposing of<br />

fabrics and trimmings<br />

in line with our<br />

sustainability goals.<br />

Mindfulness<br />

SCQF Level 2<br />

25 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

1pm - 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

Mindfulness is a very powerful tool which enables you to adopt<br />

a new mindset with a proven, lasting impact which can<br />

reduce your anxiety and stress. The course will<br />

discuss how you can alter your<br />

outlook and mood from one of<br />

negativity to positivity through<br />

focusing your awareness on<br />

the present moment.<br />

Friday<br />

Getting Started in IT<br />

SCQF Level 3<br />

26 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

9.30am-12noon<br />

14 Weeks<br />

This course is for beginners who have<br />

very little knowledge of their way around a<br />

computer. The course will help you use simple information and<br />

communication technology to access, process and present<br />

information in everyday settings.<br />

You will use features on the screen, such as icons, menus, and<br />

option buttons to navigate their way around the systems.<br />

You will also learn to transfer, copy, edit, delete and save files.<br />

This will help you be more confident moving files from a hard<br />

drive to removable storage devices and vice versa. The aim of<br />

this course is to increase your confidence using a computer/<br />

laptop.<br />

Moving on in IT<br />

SCQF Level 4<br />

26 <strong>January</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

1.00pm – 3.30pm<br />

14 Weeks<br />

This course is<br />

for learners who<br />

require the very<br />

basics of computer skills.<br />

The course will cover; how to edit documents how to use Word<br />

and Power Point, Setting-up folder and files. You will learn to<br />

use the internet, compose an e-mail and send attachments and<br />

to how keep your data and information safe online.<br />

Students should have already completed the Getting start in IT<br />

or alternatively have the very basic IT skills.
