.HOW DOES IT WORK?.<br />

A <strong>Foundation</strong> Apprenticeship takes two years to complete,<br />

is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6),<br />

<strong>and</strong> is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a<br />

qualification you will spend time out of school at college <strong>and</strong><br />

with a local employer.<br />

The <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Healthcare</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> Apprenticeship is a<br />

new award <strong>and</strong> provides a qualification for young people who wish to<br />

be prepared to work in a variety of health <strong>and</strong> social care environments.<br />

The qualification covers all the generic knowledge that everyone<br />

working in the field needs, <strong>and</strong> that all employers look for.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Pupils should have achieved several National 4 <strong>and</strong> 5 subjects <strong>and</strong> be<br />

working towards a mix of National 5 <strong>and</strong> 6 subjects in school, at the<br />

same time as studying this course.<br />

COURSE CONTENT<br />

• Working in Care<br />

• Health <strong>and</strong> Safety <strong>and</strong> Safeguarding for Care<br />

• Human Development<br />

• The <strong>Social</strong> Context for Care<br />

DAYS AND TIMES<br />

• 1:30pm - 4:30pm<br />

August 2017 course days:<br />

• Greenock Campus Wednesday <strong>and</strong> Friday<br />

• Clydebank Campus Tuesday <strong>and</strong> Thursday<br />

• Paisley Campus Tuesday <strong>and</strong> Thursday


PROGRESSION<br />

This course will prepare you for work in the areas of employment that<br />

deal with care in the environment. On successful completion you can<br />

undertake further study, or you can apply for:<br />

• Higher <strong>Social</strong> or Health Care Level 6<br />

• Relevant Modern apprenticeship<br />

<br />

• HNC <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong> (must also have 1 higher, preferably English)<br />

• HNC Care <strong>and</strong> Administrative Practice (must also have 2 Highers)<br />

• HNC Childhood Practice (must also have 1 higher, preferably English)<br />

INTERVIEW<br />

If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed<br />

for this course <strong>and</strong> this will involve:<br />

• A welcome <strong>and</strong> introduction from Head of Sector<br />

• A written exercise – short paragraph answers to three questions<br />

• A personal interview<br />

Your written exercise <strong>and</strong> personal interview will be graded to establish<br />

your suitability for the course.<br />
