.HOW DOES IT WORK?.
A Foundation Apprenticeship takes two years to complete,
is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6),
and is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a
qualification you will spend time out of school at college and
with a local employer.

HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION
APPRENTICESHIP – SCQF LEVEL 6
The Social Services and Healthcare Foundation Apprenticeship is a
new award and provides a qualification for young people who wish to
be prepared to work in a variety of health and social care environments.
The qualification covers all the generic knowledge that everyone
working in the field needs, and that all employers look for.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Pupils should have achieved several National 4 and 5 subjects and be
working towards a mix of National 5 and 6 subjects in school, at the
same time as studying this course.
COURSE CONTENT
• Working in Care
• Health and Safety and Safeguarding for Care
• Human Development
• The Social Context for Care
DAYS AND TIMES
• 1:30pm - 4:30pm
August 2017 course days:
• Greenock Campus Wednesday and Friday
• Clydebank Campus Tuesday and Thursday
• Paisley Campus Tuesday and Thursday

PROGRESSION
This course will prepare you for work in the areas of employment that
deal with care in the environment. On successful completion you can
undertake further study, or you can apply for:
• Higher Social or Health Care Level 6
• Relevant Modern apprenticeship
• HNC Social Services (must also have 1 higher, preferably English)
• HNC Care and Administrative Practice (must also have 2 Highers)
• HNC Childhood Practice (must also have 1 higher, preferably English)
INTERVIEW
If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed
for this course and this will involve:
• A welcome and introduction from Head of Sector
• A written exercise – short paragraph answers to three questions
• A personal interview
Your written exercise and personal interview will be graded to establish
your suitability for the course.
