.HOW DOES IT WORK?.<br />

A <strong>Foundation</strong> Apprenticeship takes two years to complete,<br />

is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6),<br />

and is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a<br />

qualification you will spend time out of school at college and<br />

with a local employer.<br />

CIVIL ENGINEERING FOUNDATION<br />

APPRENTICESHIP– SCQF LEVEL 6<br />

The <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> Apprenticeship is a qualification for<br />

young people who wish to enter into construction environments. The<br />

qualification covers all the generic knowledge that everyone working in<br />

the field needs, and that all employers look for.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Pupils should have achieved several National 5s including Maths &<br />

Physics and working towards Higher subjects.<br />

DAYS, TIMES & DELIVERY<br />

The course duration is over 2 years and would involve:<br />

• 2 afternoons a week for 2 years.<br />

• 1.30 - 4.30pm for 36 weeks<br />

August 2017 course days are:<br />

• Greenock Campus Wednesday and Friday<br />

• Paisley Campus Tuesday and Thursday<br />

• Clydebank Campus Tuesday and Thursday<br />

• <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong> Materials<br />

• <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong> Project<br />

• <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong> Technology<br />

• Mathematics for Construction Technicians<br />

• Construction Project Management: An Introduction<br />

• Sustainability in the obstruction Industry<br />

There are work placement opportunities with local employers built<br />

into the programme and an additional SVQ unit to be completed which<br />

combines various Health and Safety units.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

This course can prepare you for work in the areas of employment that<br />

deal with the construction environment e.g. bridges, motorways, roads<br />

and buildings.<br />

If you complete this course successfully and would like to undertake<br />

further college study, you can apply for:<br />

1. Modern apprenticeship with CITB<br />

2. HNC Construction Management<br />

INTERVIEW<br />

If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed<br />

for this course and this will involve:<br />

• A welcome and introduction from Head of Sector<br />

• A written exercise – Multiple Choice Health and Safety questions<br />

• A personal interview<br />

Your written exercise and personal interview will be graded to establish<br />

your suitability for the course.
