.HOW DOES IT WORK?.
A Foundation Apprenticeship takes two years to complete,
is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6),
and is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a
qualification you will spend time out of school at college and
with a local employer.

CIVIL ENGINEERING FOUNDATION
APPRENTICESHIP– SCQF LEVEL 6
The Civil Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship is a qualification for
young people who wish to enter into construction environments. The
qualification covers all the generic knowledge that everyone working in
the field needs, and that all employers look for.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Pupils should have achieved several National 5s including Maths &
Physics and working towards Higher subjects.
DAYS, TIMES & DELIVERY
The course duration is over 2 years and would involve:
• 2 afternoons a week for 2 years.
• 1.30 - 4.30pm for 36 weeks
August 2017 course days are:
• Greenock Campus Wednesday and Friday
• Paisley Campus Tuesday and Thursday
• Clydebank Campus Tuesday and Thursday

• Civil Engineering Materials
• Civil Engineering Project
• Civil Engineering Technology
• Mathematics for Construction Technicians
• Construction Project Management: An Introduction
• Sustainability in the obstruction Industry
There are work placement opportunities with local employers built
into the programme and an additional SVQ unit to be completed which
combines various Health and Safety units.
PROGRESSION
This course can prepare you for work in the areas of employment that
deal with the construction environment e.g. bridges, motorways, roads
and buildings.
If you complete this course successfully and would like to undertake
further college study, you can apply for:
1. Modern apprenticeship with CITB
2. HNC Construction Management
INTERVIEW
If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed
for this course and this will involve:
• A welcome and introduction from Head of Sector
• A written exercise – Multiple Choice Health and Safety questions
• A personal interview
Your written exercise and personal interview will be graded to establish
your suitability for the course.
