Police Reports<br />

Thief forces entry, steals jewelry<br />

from bedroom of residence<br />

An unknown subject<br />

pried a side door open and<br />

forced entry into a residence<br />

between 2:20-4:20<br />

p.m. on Feb. 6 in the 500<br />

block of Lawler Avenue<br />

in Wilmette. The master<br />

bedroom was ransacked<br />

and various jewelry was<br />

stolen.<br />

WILMETTE<br />

Feb. 6<br />

• A resident of the 1000<br />

block of Chestnut reported<br />

that an unknown offender<br />

had used his personal information<br />

for credit applications<br />

between Jan.<br />

23-Feb. 17. The credit applications<br />

and store credit<br />

cards have since been cancelled<br />

and he requested<br />

this report for an extended<br />

credit freeze/alert.<br />

Feb. 5<br />

• Irina D. Zavate, 42, of<br />

Wilmette, was arrested<br />

and charged with theft<br />

following an incident between<br />

2:30-2:58 p.m. Feb.<br />

3 at Carson Pirie Scott,<br />

3200 Lake Ave. Officers<br />

responded to the store for<br />

with Zavate refusing to<br />

stop for loss prevention<br />

employees. Officers found<br />

loss prevention in the parking<br />

lot with Zavate. They<br />

located stolen items inside<br />

the offender’s backpack.<br />

Feb. 4<br />

• A resident of the 1000<br />

block of Ridge Road reported<br />

to police that she<br />

had her wallet, day planner<br />

and other forms of identification<br />

stolen on Oct. 3,<br />

2016 in Chicago. An unknown<br />

offender(s) entered<br />

a bank in Texas and withdrew<br />

$4,1000 from her<br />

savings account on Feb.<br />

1. She was uncertain if the<br />

two events were related.<br />

KENILWORTH<br />

Feb. 5<br />

• A juvenile, 16, was<br />

stopped in his car for a traffic<br />

violation at 2:36 a.m.<br />

Feb. 5 in the 200 block of<br />

Sheridan. Cannabis was<br />

discovered. The driver was<br />

ticketed for driving without<br />

a license. A village<br />

ordinance was issued for<br />

possession of cannabis.<br />

How We Met Contest<br />

Love story of Glynns began on college campus<br />

Meeting that someone<br />

special is among the most<br />

wonderful moments in our<br />

lives. The story of how it<br />

all began is one we enjoy<br />

telling friends, family and<br />

anyone who will listen.<br />

Here at The Beacon,<br />

we run a number of different<br />

contests throughout<br />

the year. Based on the<br />

response we usually get,<br />

it’s the right call as our<br />

readers like to participate.<br />

This year’s How We Met<br />

contest, in its sixth year<br />

of existence, was another<br />

popular one. Picking a<br />

winner, especially when<br />

it comes to something as<br />

subjective as a love story,<br />

is difficult. We applaud all<br />

of the entries and enjoyed<br />

all of your stories.<br />

In the end, we went with<br />

the tale of college sweethearts<br />

Michael and Jasclyn<br />

Glynn, of Wilmette. For<br />

the winning entry, the<br />

Glynns will receive a $50<br />

gift certificate from the<br />

owners of The Noodle<br />

Cafe (708 12th St., Wilmette)/Depot<br />

Nuevo (1139<br />

Wilmette Ave., Wilmette).<br />

Here is the story of the<br />

Glynns:<br />

Her Voice<br />

My wife Jasclyn and<br />

I met in college at Chicago’s<br />

Illinois Institute of<br />

Technology (IIT). It was<br />

January of 1980, I was<br />

a third year undergraduate<br />

studying architecture,<br />

Jasclyn was in her second<br />

year, an engineering/business<br />

major.<br />

On-campus living accommodations<br />

for undergrads<br />

were dormitories,<br />

my room at the very end of<br />

a lengthy hallway. Bland<br />

walls of painted concrete<br />

block, a white plaster ceiling,<br />

and a floor of beigey<br />

colored vinyl tiles defined<br />

the hallway, making it<br />

a perfect echo chamber.<br />

Back then, most of my collegiate<br />

architecture friends<br />

shared similar short term<br />

life plans; graduate, find<br />

employment, enjoy single<br />

life along the way, and<br />

postpone thoughts of commitment<br />

or marriage until<br />

your thirties. Our “boys<br />

club” had a pact and I was<br />

“all in” until the evening I<br />

heard her voice.<br />

It was a Tuesday night<br />

about an hour or so after<br />

dinner while in my room,<br />

the doorway wide open.<br />

Quite unexpectedly, coming<br />

from what seemed to<br />

be the distant end of that<br />

endless hallway I began<br />

to faintly hear a voice —<br />

one I had never heard before.<br />

It was a joyous and<br />

gentle melody, a sincere<br />

Jasclyn and Michael Glynn, of Wilmette, met while<br />

studying at Chicago’s Illinois Institute of Technology.<br />

and warm breeze on that<br />

cold January night, and it<br />

seemed to be heading my<br />

way. Life was about to<br />

change.<br />

Just a few heartbeats<br />

later I eased over toward<br />

the open doorway, quietly<br />

peaked down that hall<br />

and learned “the voice”<br />

belonged to a stunning<br />

beauty with an incredible<br />

smile. I was awestruck, so<br />

much so that by the time<br />

she reached my doorway<br />

— the exact time I needed<br />

to say hello or anything<br />

for that matter, I couldn’t<br />

even speak. In an instant,<br />

she smiled, gracefully<br />

passed by, and was gone.<br />

After some composure<br />

rediscovery instinct took<br />

over and for a budding<br />

young architect that meant<br />

heading right to the drawing<br />

table to work out a<br />

PLAN. So, Jasclyn and I<br />

managed to “accidentally”<br />

meet formally the following<br />

day. We talked forever<br />

and soon agreed to rearranged<br />

our elective course<br />

and cafeteria schedules to<br />

coincide. About a month<br />

later, on Valentine’s Day<br />

she kissed me for the first<br />

time on the right cheek.<br />

We have been inseparable<br />

since.<br />

Several Novembers later<br />

we were married and 32<br />

more have quickly passed.<br />

Along the way two spectacular<br />

boys joined us for<br />

our ride and today we have<br />

our own “boys club,” so<br />

blessed to hear that lovely<br />

voice every day and it always<br />

makes us smile.<br />

see the fun and excitement<br />

radiating from both<br />

of them.”<br />

In usual fashion, the<br />

event was once again sold<br />

out with 250 dads and<br />

daughters who appreciated<br />

a night to have a little fun<br />

together, away from the<br />

distractions at home.<br />

Glenview’s Scott Marwick<br />

and his daughter,<br />

Lucy, have attended for<br />

the past three years, enjoying<br />

their night out on<br />

the town.<br />

“This is a special night<br />

that we look forward too<br />

each year,” Scott Marwick<br />

said. “It is a night we can<br />

leave the brothers and sisters<br />

behind and enjoy a<br />

night, just the two of us.”<br />

This year, Thomas also<br />

added a new twist to the<br />

evening by incorporating<br />

a few fun activity<br />

worksheets for dads and<br />

daughters to get to know<br />

one another better. A pile<br />

of glow necklaces also attracted<br />

the girls, who wore<br />

as many at one time, lighting<br />

up the dance floor.<br />

Thomas also gave<br />

thanks to their wonderful<br />

and gracious hosts.<br />

“Michigan Shores once<br />

again blew me away by<br />

their excellent service and<br />

beautiful venue. I cannot<br />

thank them enough for the<br />

opportunity to host our<br />

dance here again,” Thomas<br />

said.<br />

After working up an appetite<br />

on the dance floor,<br />

dads and daughters took<br />

an ice cream break and received<br />

a professional photo<br />

shoot, only to once again<br />

let loose on the dance floor<br />

just like Chris McLaughlin<br />

and his 6-year-old<br />

daughter, Grace.<br />

“I learn all my moves<br />

from Grace,” McLaughlin<br />

said.<br />

For Isabelle and Bob<br />

Laude, the night was about<br />

finding some quality time<br />

to build memories.<br />

“I love dancing and being<br />

here with my dad.” Isabelle<br />

Laude said.<br />

“I love the nice night out<br />

with my very special girl,”<br />

Bob Laude said.
