AECOM With the climate changing both physically and politically, AECOM will explore ways in which we can all think differently about flood risk. Showcasing a number of UK and international projects, we’ll explain how we’ve responded to the new climate by rethinking our approach to delivering flood and coastal resilience to communities at risk - delivering broader benefits, reducing impact and supporting community wellbeing. From empowering people to live with the risk of flooding, to enhancing nature’s own defences to complement those already built, and engaging with planners to re-purpose existing infrastructure, our work demonstrates that given the increasingly unpredictable and extreme nature of flooding there’s no ‘one-sizefits-all’ solution. The Rebuild by Design (RBD) Meadowlands project exemplifies this approach, reducing flood risk and increasing resilience to Hurricane Sandy-affected areas of New Jersey in the US. In the UK, a separate project is also pioneering a similar approach to storm water management. Much like RDB Meadowlands, the North Glasgow Integrated Water Management System project in Scotland, aims to develop environmentally sensitive ways to store and transport floodwater. Incorporating the Forth & Clyde Canal, a 19th Century artificial waterway, into a sustainable surface water drainage tool it is making best use of existing water infrastructure within the city, avoiding costly alternative infrastructure solutions. By rethinking our approach to water management and having an intelligent, sympathetic attitude to both the natural landscape and existing infrastructure, we can tackle the threat of flooding faced by many local communities. BMM JV BMMJV Limited is an incorporated joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald (page 32) for the Environment Agency Water and Environment Management (WEM) Framework Lot 4 providing Early Contractor Involvement, and design and construction services for flood and coastal schemes throughout England. To date, the JV has secured and successfully delivered a wide range of coastal and fluvial, flood protection schemes such as: Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS); River Hull and Humber Hull Frontage FAS; Great Yarmouth FAS; Exeter FAS; Dawlish Warren and Totnes FAS. BAM NUTTALL BAM Nuttall is a major UK based civil engineering contractor with a strong coastal marine and inland waterway construction works track record. From delivering new lifeboat stations around the UK coast under a framework agreement for RNLI, to major port developments such as Liverpool 2 and Rosyth and successful coastal and fluvial flood defence schemes at Aberaeron, Borth and Maidenhead to Windsor. CENTRE FOR ECOLOGY & HYDROLOGY Our science & expertise supports flood risk and impact for business and government clients. We develop real-time and longterm future flood risk estimation models to inform early warning services, infrastructure design planning and disaster risk reduction. CEH will be showcasing the Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) and its software, which is the industry standard for estimating UK flood risk. CEH and Wallingford HydroSolutions work in partnership on an ongoing programme of methodological and software developments. 28 28-30 March 2017

CONTROLSTAR© SYSTEMS LTD Controlstar Systems Ltd will exhibiting for the first time, their new Web based system viewer. This licence free web application supports Controlstar’s range of Telemetry and Control products. Controlstar’s product portfolio covers a wide range applications from simple remote level monitoring to large site control and monitoring including CCTV. The Controlstar Web viewer being showcased can be accessed using any HTML5 compliant browser and is licence free. The viewer application is a fluid responsive design, facilitating its multiplatform operation on devices from smartphones to workstations. The web based view is the ‘live’ image served from Controlstar’s cloud based Telemetry Master operating on an Industrial Server. Being cloud based there are no capital commitments for obtaining the viewer, and there are no programs to install. All of Controlstar’s products connect via the internet to the cloud based Master station. The Master Station has a MySQL Database, MySQL is the world’s widest used Database, with SQL (Structured Query Language) enabling efficient future development and the integration with other systems. COWI UK Ltd provides specialist civil and structural engineering services, particularly within bridge, tunnel and marine infrastructure operating from offices in London, Bristol, Derby, Uttoxeter, Glasgow and York. DYRHOFF Dyrhoff is a UK-based company and a world leader in the design and supply of pneumatically-operated dams and gates for water control and flood defence. The company has supplied products to over 20 countries in the last 25 years. One of its current flagship projects is the supply of five air-actuated spillway gates to be installed at two sites on the River Aire, Crown Point and Knsotrop, as part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme for Leeds City Council in partnership with the Environment Agency. One of the three pneumatic gates installed at Knostrop on the river Aire. The two gates to be installed at Crown Point in the city centre are 2.0m high and 30.12m wide. The three gates at Knostrop are 3.79m high x 11.89m wide. Two of the three Knostrop gates are installed and in operation; the other project is scheduled to be completed in 2017. As well as inflatable rubber dams and spillway gates, Dyrhoff’s product range includes drive-over gates and the new Fastdam® air-inflated flood protection barrier. These products are based on Dyrhoff’s extensive experience designing and supplying rubber dams and pneumatically operated spillway gates, and working models will be on display at the company’s stand (B66).
