GEODESIGN BARRIERS
The devastating Storm Desmond
in 2015 led to The National Flood
Resilience Review. Appreciating the
importance of having temporary
flood barriers available nationally,
the government, through the
Environment Agency, significantly
increased their stock of temporary
barriers. Geodesign Barriers have
worked closely with the EA since 2001,
but have now also officially become
an EA framework partner and are
supplying even more temporary
barriers, for national deployment.
Geodesign Barriers has made
effective flood protection available
for companies like National Grid, UK
Power Networks, Northern PowerGrid,
SSE, SGN and Anglian Water.
Many kilometres of barrier have
been distributed around the world,
providing effective protection
against flooding. This easy-to-deploy,
flat-packed barrier is available in
dam heights of 0.45m to 2.40m.
The Geodesign Barriers are free
standing and self-anchoring, with no
fixtures to the ground. Suitable for
both homeowners and large-scale
use, they can be deployed on any
ground surface. The flexible barriers
adapt easily to local conditions, such
as uneven ground, angles, kerbs,
slopes and steps. They can also be
deployed in water, if needed. With a
lifespan of over 50 years and extra
strong, galvanised steel behind
the plastic membrane, this barrier
system becomes less vulnerable
and can be used again and again
– giving excellent life cost value
