Paisley Colour Photographic Club
Kilmacolm Camera Club
Our last night before the Christmas break was another internal league
competition,
the topic being
“Bridges.”
The judge on
this occasion
was Duncan
MacDonald.
In true, pre-
Christmas
Camera Club
tradition,
the images
looked even
better, when
accompanied
with wine and
mince pies!
In the Print
class, John
Watson was
first, with “The
19th and 20th
Century,” Bill
Ham came
second, with
“Bell’s Bridge”
( s h o w n
above) and
Bill and Janice
Stevenson
were third
equal, with
“Forth Rail Bridge” and “Packhorse Bridge,” respectively.
In the Digital class, Janice came
first, with “Rannoch Woods
Bridge,” (shown above) David
Addison was second, with “Falls
of Bruar” (shown right) and Bill
Ham came third, with “Bridge at
Dumbarton.”
Our fi rst evening of 2017 was
a slide show by David Walker.
This was a series of photo slides
(none of your new-fangled digital
gizmos!) of “Glasgow’s Hidden
Treasures,” showing images of
Glasgow’s wonderful architecture.
He admitted that some of the
slides were over 25 years old, but
his audience were fairly sure that
some of his jokes were at least
twice that age!
Please come along and see what our Syllabus has to offer.
The Borbasket Trophy 2016/17
Last month at the McMaster Centre in Renfrew, Paisley Colour Photographic
Club held its annual competition for the Borbasket Memorial Trophy.
In this competition entry consists of three digital images judged as a set with
the fi rst image in each set either a table top, a portrait or a still life photograph.
Judging the competition were last year’s winner of the trophy, Ken McArthur
and the winner of last season’s Henderson Trophy, Richard Bennett.
The judges in turn gave a very clear and considered critique of each of the
eighty one images entered. They pointed out what they enjoyed about each
image and also gave ideas as to how improvements could be made to some
images.
This year the award for the top set of images by a non-advanced member
was made to Leonard Esacowitz for his set including “Misty Vinius at Dawn”.
The top still life image was “Japanese Style” by Norma McDowall.
For the Borbasket Trophy, Ken and Richard awarded fourth place to Jim
Black for his set which included the image they judged to be the best overall
image in the competition “Southern White Admiral”.
This year the Borbasket Trophy was awarded to
Charles Hamilton for his set of three street portraits
“July, Glasgow Cross”, “Romanian Accordion Lady”
and “Colour Me Happy”.
In joint second place were Alison
Smart and Mike Cruise. Alison’s set
of images included “Morning Light,
Plockton”, “Evening Sail on the Clyde”
and the image judged to be the best
portrait in the competition “Tobacco
Farmer”. Mike’s set included “Old
Gypsy Lady”, “Hitting the Bend” and
“Morning Mist”.
