From MARRAKECH to PARIS
There we were all set to try out the new Easyjet service to Marrakech from
Glasgow, when I got an email from there 24 hours before our departure to say
that the place was flooded and the expectation was that it would be pouring
for the next few days at least! So after discussion with hubby, we decided to
abandon the trip and change our date to early in the New Year. I mean, what is
the point of looking at the weather forecast if you don’t act on it! The ability to
have flexibilty is one of life’s little luxuries!
As we were all primed to go somewhere, Paris called. Like New York, the festive
season is the best time of year to visit the City of Light. We arrived to cold
crisp dry weather, wandered and wondered as we strolled up the shimmering
and sparkling Champs Elysee, passed the Christmas Market stalls, Place de
la Concorde, Place Vendome, Rue Royal and the Madeleine finally arriving at
the magnificent Opera house and “Les Grands Magasins” of Printemps and
Galleries Lafayette. I had read that Printemps windows, usually beautifully
decked out with mechanised puppets, had been taken over by Burberry. Only
expecting lots of their signature check design, we were so surprised at the
magnificence of the puppetry designs that had been installed. A little obligatory
retail therapy then followed!
As always wining and dining was superb and with the euro at a much better
rate, good value.
