When I adopted Seri, I didn't know a<br />
lot about his breed (pit bull terrier mix)…<br />
didn't know about the many negative<br />
stereotypes that some people have<br />
about these dogs. But as I learned,<br />
I quickly grew very protective of his<br />
breed and supportive of efforts to<br />
abolish breed-specific legislation. I<br />
mean, how could I not? Have you seen<br />
his handsome face!?<br />
Seri and I currently live in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan,<br />
more than 6,000 miles from<br />
where we met. I work closely with a<br />
variety of people and Seri is right there<br />
with me. He brings down barriers not<br />
only as a dog, but also as a Staffordshire<br />
terrier-pit bull mix. Kyrgyzstan is a<br />
country where animals are not thought<br />
of as pets so most people are frightened<br />
when they meet Seri for the first<br />
time. However, once they do, they fall<br />
in love.<br />
Seri is a sweet, good-natured dog who<br />
has come so far—in so many ways—<br />
since we met. I’m so glad to have him<br />
in my life and look forward to making<br />
many more memories with him!<br />
