Church Improvements for Handicapped Accessibility, Baptism and Funerals
As mentioned previously on several occasions and following careful development and consultation with our Church
Study Group and Parish Pastoral Council, a new accessibility area will be created for our parish members with special
seating needs.
This area will be up in the front pews on the left side (as you face the altar) and will make the reception of Communion
much easier for those involved. It will replace the current handicapped accessibility areas presently in the middle of the
Church. As mentioned we are doing this for these reasons:
1. to create an easier place of exit and entrance for our parish members with special needs;
2. to offer a space allowing for greater accommodation for those in wheelchairs and mobile devices;
3. to honor these members of our faith community with places of respect and dignity in the front of our worship
space;
4. to unify those with special needs into one area of our church’s worship space allowing for greater
hospitality and inclusion.
Because accommodating change can be unsettling, following the recommendation of the Pastoral Council, for now,
one area for accessible seating will temporarily remain in the middle of the church on the left side, but eventually all
who wish to have Communion brought to them by a Minister will be asked to be seated in the front area designated for
this purpose.
Additionally, again as discussed with parish leadership and announced to the parish several times, our new area for our
baptismal font will be created soon in the rear main aisle in the space of the last section of pews. Not only will this area
serve the needs of our families bringing children for the ritual of the Sacrament of Baptism, it will also provide a space
to gather our people for funerals and other important liturgies.
These reminders will help to insure that no one is uninformed at the time these improvements are made.
As always we are grateful for your respectful consideration, understanding and support of the improvements
implemented for our faith community as we grow together as God’s family.
discussions have applied God’s Word to today’s world.
Bring your Bible, prepare to have a good time, and enjoy
the Scriptures.
AHOY THERE!
HIGH SEAS EXPEDITION VBS WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
56 children climbed aboard and enjoyed a summer High Seas Expedition the
last week of July. Our young voyagers were challenged to watch for “Godsightings”
in everyday life and share the Mighty Love of God with everyone
they meet. They participated in five fun days filled with bible stories, music,
movement, crafts, games, and prayer. They also contributed to two service
initiatives while on the high seas by making “God Loves Me” blankets for
African children who have been touched by AIDS and by donating school
supplies to be distributed to local children in need through the Catholic
Charities Office in Des Plaines, IL. Through their efforts, our young voyagers have shared the message of God’s mighty
love with children in need both across the globe and only a few miles away. “Let’s Go!” and continue to spread the
word about God’s amazing and mighty love for everyone in His family.
This wonderful Vacation Bible School Program, sponsored by Our Lady, Mother of the Church and Divine Savior, could
not have taken place without the energy, dedication, and creativity of our VBS volunteers.
