Uniform Essential equipment list It is really important you have all the equipment you need in every lesson to help you progress in your learning; your tutor will check this regularly. Here is a basic list of what you need. We will provide you with a school planner and all your exercise and text books. You have probably guessed by now we are extremely proud of our school and at Cranford we expect everyone to wear their school uniform with pride. School uniform is compulsory from Years 7-11 and the Sixth Form have their own smart professional dress code. All students at the school have to dress smartly. Everyone in the school must dress in a way which: • is not likely to render them vulnerable to criticism or allegation • is not likely to be viewed as offensive, revealing or sexually provocative • does not distract, cause embarrassment or give rise to misunderstanding • does not include any political or otherwise contentious symbolism or slogans • is not considered to be discriminatory • is respectful of ethnic and cultural differences Hair must be smart and formal and no jewellery is allowed, nor is nail varnish or make-up permitted in Years 7-11. You can wear a watch and stud type earrings. Symbols of religious faith can be worn where they are essential to your religion but nonuniform items will be confiscated until the end of the academic year. The full uniform policy is available on the school website and you should read this in detail. www.cranford.hounslow.sch.uk school planner Mobile Phone Agreement At Cranford we have a duty to safeguard the learning of all students and therefore we actively discourage students from bringing a mobile phone or other valuable items to school. If you need to use a telephone, school land lines are available and you can store important phone numbers and information in your planner. Your parents can contact you at school via Reception or your Pastoral Manager. The full Mobile Phone Agreement is on the school website and signing this is requirement for entry to the school. • Pen • Pencil • Ruler • Rubber • Folders • Pencil sharpener • Scientific Calculator • A reading book • Headphones for ICT • A sensible bag big enough to carry all of your things. • PE Kit (with all items labelled with your name and in a separate bag)
Cranford is a big school with great facilities and you will soon learn your way around. We will give you a map but we are a very friendly school and if you get stuck any teacher or student will help you. Here are some of the places you need to know about. Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Mahavir Ladva The LRC is open from 8am until 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and until 4pm on Fridays. It holds everything you need to help you with your studies and independent learning: over 11,000 books, 48 computers, a wide selection of DVDs and newspapers and magazines. With a membership card, you can borrow items as well as using the homework club and take part in exciting activities such as quizzes, chess club, author visits and trips and competitions throughout the year. The School Shop Julie Prunty The School shop sells school uniform and all the essential equipment you need for all of your lessons. It is open every day during term time and for much of the school holidays. For holiday opening times and prices you can always check the school website: www.cranford.hounslow.sch.uk Literacy and Numeracy College (LNC) Kerry Mulhair The LNC provides help to students who need a ‘boost’ to their learning. It makes sure you have all the skills you need in English and Maths and the literacy and numeracy skills to support students in all of your other subjects. It is open before and after school, as well as at break times to help students with their studies.
