Educating For Success PAGE 6 PILATES and FITNESS SESSIONS –We are very lucky to have Mrs. Gail Lever working in our FLO program this year who has been running Pilates sessions with some of our students. We have only just commenced this program in the last few weeks but we look forward to more sessions continuing next term and seeing the benefits of these sessions in weeks to come – great for the body and mind. We are also very lucky to have Andre running some fitness/boxing sessions with some of or students. Volunteering at the Animal Shelter – This year we have continued our Volunteer Work at the Animal Shelter. The animals love the interaction and socialisation with the other animals (and our students. )Our trips to the Animal shelter are a real highlight of the week for our students. They love that feeling of giving back to the community and it is a ‘win win’ for everyone. FOOD HANDLERS AND BARISTA COURSE – On Monday 20 th March, 14 of our FLO students in Years 9 and 10 particpated in a Food Handlers and Barista Course. This was a full day of training and the students had to complete a test at the end of the Food Handlers Course to successfully gain their qualification. We await our results in the next few weeks but I am confident all of our students will pass with flying colours as they were very attentive, engaged, contributed to discussions and asked lots of interesting questions. The Barista training is held over two days. We started our traininig on the 20 th and will complete training early net term. On the first day students are shown how to operate the coffee machine, become familiar with the terminolgy, learn how to make all of the 12 different types of coffee, how to clean the machine, etc.. The students then spend the next few weeks ‘honing ‘ their skills before the trainer/assessor comes back to assess them and to find out if they are fully qualified Barista’s.
Educating For Success PAGE 7 It was a great day of training for all of the students who were thouroughly engaged throughout the entire day. We look forward to tasting their ‘coffee art’ in the weeks/months to come. Thanks to Anyse Austrem, our trainer from Madec who kept our students entertained, enthralled and educated throughout the day. It was a lot of fun. It has been a really short term for our FLO students as the FLO program did not Handlers start until course. week 3 and I am super impressed with what the students have achieved in just 7 short weeks. I am super excited to see some of our projects come to completion before the end of this term/early next term and I look forward to posting photos of the finished products on Facebook and in the next Newsletter.
