The Vows Of April
by Robert Martin
I, the fourth month of
The calendar year 2017,
A sibling from a family of twelve,
Hereby make these promises to you.
I vow to:
Loosen up the grip of winter,
Convert the snowflakes to raindrops,
Move the rays of the sun to a
More vertical position in the sky,
Resuscitate all the plant life,
Pull the potatoes up thru’ the soil,
Feed you, make you feel
More comfortable,
And stay with you until
My brother November comes.
Then I shall go to sleep again
Until my sister March summons
Me to come back next year.
Please don’t worry, my friend.
I have kept these promises
Ever since my family came to be.
