Insufficiency
LAST WORD
The right attitude starts kicking in when you ask yourself,
‘is this what God created me to do. Is this the purpose for
my life?’
When you are in the middle of a very important
call and somehow get cut off. You try to call back
and instead of going through you are met with
Veronica, ‘You have insufficient airtime to make a
call, please load airtime’.
It’s the middle of the month and you wake up one
Saturday morning feeling like having a nice breakfast.
You have a list of everything you need to prepare
it in mind. And then you remember that you
still have about R300 in your account and therefore
can get all these items you require. Up you go
to the store; you shop and get to the till to pay.
The lady at the till does her thing and you proudly
take out your card to pay. ‘It’s declining’ she says.
You look at her with both embarrassment and
confusion. ‘How’ you ask yourself. The items you
are buying hardly make up R120 and you remember
having R300 in your account so how can your
card be declining. ‘Try it again’ you say. She tries
again and looks at you again with a little bit of
impatience this time, ‘Its declining’. The worst part
about the machines at the shops these days is
that they even give codes when your card is declining
and the cashiers know exactly why your
card is declining. In some cases it will be a transaction
or machine issue which they will gladly tell
you to go pay at another till or ask for another
transmitter. However, if the reason for the rejection
of payment is insufficient funds, they will not
bother. You try to save the little bit of dignity you
have left and take out the cash you had planned
to use for something else and pay for you groceries.
Another insufficiency created!
You walk out of the store straight to the ATM to
check what has happened to your money and
only to find on your mini statement bank charges
and maybe two other transactions for things you
bought two weeks ago, but they only went
through last night. How annoying that is. Your day
is spoiled; you can’t enjoy your breakfast anymore
and you must figure out now how you are going
to survive for the rest of the month when those few
rands were suppose to carry you through. That
item you wanted to buy with the money you
ended up using, how important was it and can it
wait another month? If it cannot then what do
you do? Imagine if this is something that happens
month after month.
This is how insufficiency ruins your life.
