LWG Objectives<br />

The Leather Working Group (LWG)<br />

was formed in <strong>April</strong> 2005 to promote<br />

s u s t a i n a b l e a n d a p p r o p r i a t e<br />

environmental stewardship practices<br />

occasion and explained the benefits<br />

of LWG certification to tanners and<br />

also expressed the concerns of<br />

different nature and the cost of<br />

certification and its importance.<br />

In the end Mr. Abrar, Chief<br />

Executive, M/s. Shafi Reso Chem<br />

thanks the participants and asked the<br />

tanners to follow to improve the<br />

environmental atmosphere in the<br />

tannery / factory for their own staff,<br />

employee welfare.<br />

The tanners were told that some<br />

Asian countries tanners already got<br />

LWG certification and this<br />

certification can boost export to the<br />

importers who produce branded<br />

products.<br />

LWG certification covers animal<br />

care, environmental friendly,<br />

chromium usage, social expects,<br />

workers welfare, less use of power,<br />

chemical and water. Mechanism that<br />

support the environmental reforms,<br />

reduce manpower requirement to<br />

manage tannery. Mr. Asif , LWG<br />

Consultant in Pakistan also<br />

presented valuable information to<br />

the tanners.<br />

suppliers, retailers, leading technical<br />

experts within the leather industry,<br />

NGOs and other stakeholder<br />
