77 Pakistan Day
The 77th Pakistan Day 2017 was celebrated by the nation with
traditional zeal and enthusiasm in commemoration of the Lahore
Resolution passed on 23 March 1940, when the All-India Muslim
League demanded a separate Islamic State for the Muslims of the
British Indian Empire. The day dawned with 31gun salute in the
Federal Capital, and 21gun salute in the provincial capitals.Special
feature of the parade this year was participation of troops from China
and Saudi Arabia for the first time. A historic Turkish military band
also played national anthems in their first performance at the annual
event. After a gap of seven years, the Pakistan Day parade had
resumed in 2015 as a manifestation of the military's show of
strength in the wake of a shocking attack in 2014 on the Peshawar's
Army Public School. This year, Pakistan's armed forces have
displayed nuclear weapons, tanks, jets and drones during the 23rd
March's parade.
On this occasion, President Mamnoon Hussain observed that March
23rd parade had strengthened the nation's enthusiasm and
established awe and glory in the hearts of its enemies. He also added
that the armed forces of the country with their thorough
professionalism were fully capable of defending the country at every
moment.
At the end of the ceremony, Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa
thanked China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and South African Chief of
defence forces for their participation in the annual event. “Pakistan
is significant in community of nations. We are a peaceful country,”
he added.
Pakistan is a valuable gift from Almighty Allah in the form of a
sovereign country where we could live, practice pious ritual and
develop values, beliefs and promote culture of our own and we should
make pledge and support government and armed forces to make the
country stronger by uprooting the menace of terrorism, achieving
sustainable economic growth, eradication of poverty, as well as
political stability.

We further need to resolve on the occasion that we as a nation would
work for unity to end the curse of terrorism by helping in the
Operation Raddul Fasaad launched by our armed forces. We must not
ignore the bloody turmoil that many countries in our neighborhood
are passing through, some of them on the verge of even disintegration.
We must help to increase awareness in our new generation about
Pakistan's solidarity and integrity as well as pray to Almighty Allah to
safeguard the sovereignty of our beloved country. Amen!
Although the Lahore Resolution provided basis for Pakistan's
establishment and we observe Pakistan Day annually, however, the
current day affairs of the country look into absolute contrast to the
spirit of the resolution. The society is facing intolerance, religious
extremism, it stands divided and these ills are increasing with the
passage of time. Disparity in the society has increased, resulting in
widespread unrest in the society. We, therefore, need to revert to
the spirit of Pakistan Resolution if we want to steer the country out
of the present day crisis.
