Prehistorical Geosite in Marina di Camerota<br />

The Cala Cave is an important prehistoric<br />

site , like others in Marina di Camerota,<br />

located a few meters from the sea and<br />

inside it collect different testimonies of the<br />

presence of Neanderthal groups , and most<br />

modern men succeeded between 30,000<br />

and 10,000 years ago .<br />

Inside it was found several stone tools such<br />

as scrapers and back ends , faunal remains,<br />

sea shells , bone artefacts and hearths<br />

dating back 27,000 to 24,000 years agos .<br />

By newer layers , however , they come<br />

interesting finds of the Mesolithic , Neolithic<br />

and Copper .<br />

The museum’s exhibition In the Cala Caves<br />

is part of a larger project entitled " From “the<br />

Paleolithic to the Middle Ages , Journey in<br />

Cilento” up hills and down dales" which it<br />

Camerota, Casaletto Spartano, Morigerati,<br />

Piaggine, Tortorella Rofrano and with the '<br />

objective of strengthening the relationship<br />

between coastal and inland Through its<br />

history and stories , and enhance the rich<br />

historical - cultural heritage of the coast of<br />

Marina di Camerota and internal areas .<br />
