Despite the low height of this white building it takes advantage of the slightly hilly site, when<br />

revealing an amfitheatre behind its walls.<br />

very important institutions. Among these are the<br />

Cuban Institute for Art and Cinema, the National<br />

Council of Performing Arts, the Cuban Institute<br />

for Music and the Cuban Institute for Literature.<br />

Currently, this cultural complex houses several<br />

functions where the biggest building contains<br />

four cinema rooms of 40 seats and a theatre<br />

of 70 seats (see fig. 3.26). The biggest room is<br />

available for parties and weddings. Around an<br />

open playground some smaller buildings are<br />

located and the additional functions such as the<br />

restaurant, the ice-cream shop, and the Cafe<br />

Literario, the literature coffee shop, are easily<br />

accessible (see fig. 3.27).<br />

Closed and destroyed projects<br />

<strong>Alamar</strong> used to be a wealthy city in terms of<br />

cultural institutions and a strong art scene.<br />

However some of these important landmarks<br />

have been destroyed or taken out of function.<br />

But for an architectural lover, these places can<br />

still be seen, and even blessing you with more<br />

spirit and memories from an old era gone by. The<br />

Theatre of <strong>Alamar</strong> situated close by the seafront<br />

(see fig. 3.28) has been closed down and locked.<br />

Being a curious soul, climbing over the fence will<br />

reveal the ruins of an old amfi theatre beautifully<br />

placed in its surroundings (see fig. 3.29). The<br />

vegetation has taken over the concrete benches<br />

and artistic people have painted it with grafitti
