<strong>Alamar</strong> - a sleeping city?<br />
As mentioned before, <strong>Alamar</strong> has the function<br />
of a residential area. On the topic of work and<br />
economy, you would think that there is not much<br />
going on in <strong>Alamar</strong>. Nothing is less true.<br />
In the past the main goal of building in <strong>Alamar</strong><br />
was to provide equal housing for everybody.<br />
There was no budget for anything else, so parks,<br />
recreational areas or shops were not created at<br />
that time. But, walking through <strong>Alamar</strong>, you will<br />
see a lot of people on the streets. They created<br />
their own shops and places where they are able<br />
to meet one another. These shops can be found<br />
everywhere along the street. The street is the<br />
meeting space. While the big green open space<br />
in the middle of <strong>Alamar</strong> (clearly visible in the<br />
aereal view), is rather empty. It was supposed<br />
and designed to become a lively green area,<br />
but it didn’t turn out like that. The center of a<br />
neighborhood is normally the most lively place,<br />
where people meet and talk. In <strong>Alamar</strong> these<br />
centers are self-created by the inhabitants.<br />

Work in <strong>Alamar</strong><br />
Most of the inhabitants of <strong>Alamar</strong> work in Havana<br />
or in the city. Alongside the small self-created<br />
businesses we can also find people working<br />
in a state-company. Amongst others a textile<br />
factory, several policlinicos and a big commercial<br />
shopping centre are located in <strong>Alamar</strong>. Quotes of<br />
