03_Playita de los Russos
During the Cold War and the Cuban missile
crisis, a lot of US Marine ships were present in
front of the north coast of Cuba. The Cuban
army and USSR troops defended the coastline
between Havana and Matanzas by digging
defensive trenches and building bunkers on the
beaches. Remnants of these defenses can be
found on the Playita de los Russos, the beach on
the extension of the important street Avenida de
los Cocos. The decaying bunkers and walls give
the beach a historical and estranging feeling.
